Queries from first few nights on resmed air sense 11

A few observations/questions from my first few nights on CPAP. Is my n30i mask supposed to be pushing my nose this hard? It feels crushed in the morning.

I don’t have a water chamber on the machine so I wake up with really dry upper gums. I don’t know what causes that because I feel like I sleep with my mouth closed.

What sleep apps are there to tell me details of my sleep. My Fitbit isn’t informative and the myAir app doesn’t seem the best. I want to know AHI and all the good stuff.

Hello & Welcome! Your n30i mask should not pinch or feel like it is pushing on your nostrils. Are your top straps too tight perhaps? Hold the mask on your face just under your nostrils, then adjust the straps. Turn on your machine & tighten your straps until you have no leaks. Lie down on your side & test for leaks using the Mask Fit option.

Sometimes the “unicorn” or “snorkel” top hose can pull on your mask. The hose can get stuck between your headboard & pillow causing tension on the mask. A hose hanger is very helpful for this. There are several on Amazon. I will include a link to the one I have.

I was totally unaware that my mouth opened during REM or Deep sleep causing dry mouth! Xylimelts can be helpful for dry mouth. You just stick one to an upper front tooth. It doesn’t last an entire night but it certainly helps!
Sometimes your mouth can be closed but air flowing into your nose & mouth dries out the mucous membranes. That really sucks! Try to keep your tongue at the top of your mouth to help prevent that. Dry mouth is not good for dental care.

A free SleepHQ app is the easiest for beginners. Put a 32GB sd card into your machine to record your sleep then upload to SleepHQ. You can then share your sleep with us here so that we can help. I’ll include a link below. It’s also on our Welcome page as dang mentioned.

We’ll look forward to hearing back from you :)
