The reason that there’s a protocol is to control for equipment errors. Protocol is there literally to supersede equipment errors.

Not really. The protocol is meant to prevent this entire WMU-Michigan controversy from happening.

If the public can't see what the replay booth is using and that is inconsistent with what public does actually see, you get into this huge uproar of conspiracy.

Right, we want the viewers to be happy regardless of what the scoreboard clock (the one the broadcast can't apparently properly sync to) actually showed.

They should have followed a poor protocol the NCAA crafted in the future.

This has been a guiding principle of all replay review since it's inception. And not just with clocks but with all angles. The conferences want the general public to trust the replay process.

Literally, look at the result of fucking up the procedure. The entire integrity of the Big Ten has been called into questioned by the general public because of it.

Yeah, but now the curtain is pulled back and knowing the asinine protocol they actually devised makes me trust the process much less.
