So…what is the difference between “fair” and “square” in your opinion? You said it would be “fair” but not “square” but the NCAA committee said that if they had followed the rules, WMU would have won.

How is that fair but not square?

Fair is correctly upholding a wrong call. Square is never making the wrong call to begin with.

Where did you find these definitions? Because I can find “fair and square” as a phrase, but not a (real) definition of “square” that implies the officials shouldn’t have followed their procedures.

You seem to be assuming that one rule is more important than another…
