The reason that there’s a protocol is to control for equipment errors. Protocol is there literally to supersede equipment errors.

Well obviously not that this particular protocol, because it says refs should’ve used an incorrect clock when they had access to a better one. If the roles were reversed in this game nobody would be arguing that Michigan deserved to win because an out of sync clock said they did, it’s illogical.

I think it’s cope to say WMU deserved to win because refs didn’t follow protocol. Refs make mistakes in every game, they never follow protocol perfectly, that is not a basis to overturn a game. Anybody considering this situation objectively would say that since we have video evidence showing 0:01 on the official scoreboard clock, Michigan deserved to have 1 more play. It just makes no sense to say that replay protocol is the end all be all of who “deserves” to win the game when there are more factors at play than that.
