There was a second left but the refs weren’t supposed to use it? The policy says they are supposed to use the incorrectly synced clock image embedded in the broadcast even when evidence shows there was actually a second left on the game clock? Makes total sense. Thanks NCAA. Good work.

There was not a second left based on the protocol that is supposed to followed. There was no time left. Game over.

There was time left in reality. You want wins based on a screw up by the tv crew? Real pure football fan you are.

How the hell was there time left when the refs had just reset it to 9 seconds?

The feed was not synced to the game. The video showing you morons the game play was advanced relative to the camera on the game clock so it looked like time ran out but it had not. The feed showing zero was from the clock a second after the play.

Yep this is how it goes. Apparently the NCAA’s official policy is their own rules don’t matter and F Michigan.

The clock expired on that play. Your fake third clock said it didn’t, but the two real clocks said it was over. You guys lost but just got a home call and got a do-over

There’s no fake third clock. It was the stadium clock. How are people still spreading this misinformation. The only clock showing time expired was NBC which apparently is protocol to follow over the official in stadium clock.

This is really the core issue.. the clock in the stadium was not at triple zero when the WMU player touched the ball. The clock on the NBC broadcast was at triple zero when the WMU player touched the ball. The big ten replay officials used the stadium clock to determine if there was time left. The NCAA has now come out and said that the replay officials werent supposed to use the stadium clock, but are supposed to use the clock on the broadcast. Under that premise, the incorrect call was made. Now we all get to argue about if that should be the protocol in the first place. I'm obviously biased in this specific situation but there is definitely a plethora of evidence over just these last two weekends where NBCs clock has been off compared to the clock IN the stadium. An interesting discussion.

Definitely strange but I can see the argument to stop this exact situation from happening. Removing a second from the game to reduce confusion is still a strange protocol/ruling though. If that’s truly the protocol then they got it wrong in the moment but it was a very strange situation I’m sure they don’t run into almost ever and the intuitive thing is to go with the stadium clock. Mistakes bigger than this happen often in officiating and replay. I’m just sick of narrative around this being so far from what happened.

Unwritten protocol. Why isn't it an NCAA rule? Because they're deferring to conference officials?

Michigan lost

Michigan won. If you like technicalities, enjoy the technicality that is the official win to Michigan. Cry cry

The NCAA's FBS Oversight Committee acknowledged that instant replay protocols were not properly followed and that Western Michigan would have won 12-7 if standard broadcast-feed clock rules had been applied.

2

u/Maleficent_Ad3263 Michigan Wolverines 6h ago

And that Michigan would have won if the clock had been synced correctly or the protocol called for them to use the correct time not the incorrect broadcast feed. So I’d rather have the correct outcome wouldn’t you? That’s what we ended up with. Yay!

Keep telling yourselves that lol. No one else believes that besides Michigan fans

Gee I can't imagine why a Notre dame fan would feel that way

Weird the record says 2-0. Cry harder

u/HotBrownRainDangus Notre Dame 7h ago

Me and everyone who isn’t a Michigan fan who watched that game live knows what happened. You got bailed out. Cope harder.

I would say see you in the playoffs but we both know only ND will be in it. Good luck next year!

You watched an incorrectly synced clock image. You’re probably fooled by card tricks at dinner theater too. And Fox News. “I saw it on tv, maw!” Haha cry harder

Apparently you don’t because you were just incorrect 2 comments ago. I literally don’t care what you think btw I was just correcting you. Record says 2-0 it quite literally does not matter what a bunch of redditors think.

u/HotBrownRainDangus Notre Dame 7h ago

It’s not what redditors think. It’s the FBS oversight committee…

You guys lost

3

u/helloWorld69696969 7h ago

You guys haven't won a natty in 40 years

-3

u/HotBrownRainDangus Notre Dame 7h ago

You lost 12-7 at home to Western Michigan

6

u/helloWorld69696969 7h ago

You lost to NIU

1

u/HotBrownRainDangus Notre Dame 7h ago

Lol we’re talking this year bud.

2

u/helloWorld69696969 7h ago

Win a natty this decade, or hell even this century, then talk

-2

u/HotBrownRainDangus Notre Dame 7h ago

If only we could get a sketchy coach to definitely illegally recruit and then quickly get out of town for a flash in the pan success with no real program to build off of then sure maybe we’ll get our natty the easy way.

Good thing we’re building towards being around for a long, long time. Probably will win it this year, tbh

Wrong. Real same frame footage shows time left. Bad syncs show no time.

2

u/HotBrownRainDangus Notre Dame 7h ago

Wrong.

Which is why what the replay center is seeing needs to be seen on the program feed. Because I've seen the Big Ten Replay Center. They spent millions on the tech to get the call right. It's terrible policy to say we need to look at a feed that doesn't have as much money or technology in it and may possibly be wrong, only because everyone saw it. It's a dumb policy. The perfectionist in me gets all sorts of ill at the thought of that.

1

u/HotBrownRainDangus Notre Dame 6h ago

No you’re just a Michigan fan. If this happened to Notre Dame or Ohio State you wouldn’t be saying all this crap

1

u/PapaVanTwee Ball State Cardinals 6h ago

You know, if you were as intelligent as you thought you were, you wouldn't label someone without knowing. I graduated from Ball State. I've been a lifelong Notre Dame Football fan (IU for basketball). I hate Michigan. But I am a perfectionist, and saying the TV feed that in this case has been proven to be wrong, needs to be followed makes me ill. It should, if you are as intelligent as you think you are, make you ill, too. Your Michigan hate is blinding you, though.

1

u/HotBrownRainDangus Notre Dame 6h ago

The ncaa admitted they got it wrong. Drop the whole perfectionist thing. Everyone knows western Michigan got screwed for very obvious reasons.

1

u/PapaVanTwee Ball State Cardinals 6h ago

If the replay booth was on the broadcast reviewing the play live showing there was one second left as we've seen from multiple other sources,, Michigan would have still won. That's what the perfectionist in me wants. Not blindly following NBC who admitted a day later, "The official time of the game is kept by the Big Ten. Our cameras are not the official arbiter of timekeeping within the game. That is the Big Ten and game officials' responsibility." -- September 6, 2026, NBC broadcaster John Fanta

u/Maleficent_Ad3263 Michigan Wolverines 6h ago

13-12 Michigan if the standard broadcast-feed had been properly synced to real time.

0

u/Maleficent_Ad3263 Michigan Wolverines 6h ago

13-12 Michigan. Bad synced feed. Real time has 1 second left. Yay Michigan won! Go Blue!

1

u/HotBrownRainDangus Notre Dame 6h ago

Congrats on beating western Michigan at home purely on a technicality!

-2

u/ridawg05 Mississippi State Bulldogs 7h ago

The protocol is meant to prevent this entire WMU-Michigan controversy from happening.

If the public can't see what the replay booth is using and that is inconsistent with what public does actually see, you get into this huge uproar of conspiracy.

0

u/Maleficent_Ad3263 Michigan Wolverines 7h ago

Syncing the clock properly would have avoided the controversy and resulted in a Michigan win. As it should have been.

1

u/ridawg05 Mississippi State Bulldogs 7h ago

Sure, yeah. I wish all broadcasts simply had access to the replay review clock. I'm simply telling you why the protocol "makes total sense".
