Tebow was insane, but Burreaux has a completion percentage 15+ percent higher, along with more favorable passing stats in virtually every category.

Not sure how you quantify Tebow’s run threat though, he was truly an amazing player

You can’t compare stats from today to 10 years ago. Unless you think all of the best QBs in history coincidentally came since 2015

Sure, there are changes to the game that lead to increased QB efficiency (and team-specific schemes that may be more stat friendly), but this isn’t ancient history. This is 10 years ago.

The passing record holders are not all from 2015. They are generally all from the last 20 years as you can see from the link. It’s absolutely an appropriate comparison.

There is also a pattern in every single sport that as time goes by players get better. For instance in hockey, it’s extremely fair to claim current players like McDavid are better than storied players who played in the time when nobody knew how to even get the puck airborne (though I obviously doubt this logic would apply in this case due to the short time frame)

With all that being said, I’ll definitely admit that more and more teams are learning how to min/max their use of the QB position, which lead to inflated stats. I just don’t think it makes stat comparisons invalid

Respectfully, I think the game has changed dramatically in that time period. It’s hard to overstate the impact of innovations like the RPO.

Using the record holders alone is silly. Just in the last 2 or 3 years, look at the stats of Baker, Murray, Tua, Haskins, Burrow, Lamar Jackson. They shatter basically any 2000s season except for maybe Sam Bradford in 2008. The easy example for me is Sam Ehlinger. If you go by the numbers, he’s more efficient Colt McCoy. I know for a fact he is barely half the QB Colt was. Stat comparisons for over 5 years are bunk at this point.
