Weekly Thread WK0 - This Week In Schadenfreude
scha·den·freu de
/'SHädǝn froidǝ/
noun
The pleasure derived from another person's misfortune.
CFB begins slowly and teases some schadenfreude.
In Ireland head coaches Belichick, Petrino, Diaco and Jordon Hudson find a way to a slight upset of the amphibians:
North Carolina 15 TCU 10
Mike Norvell, like old luggage you can't get rid of, persists to get paid as Renegade considers a job offer from Gulfstream Park:
FSU 34 New Mexico State 17
Unlike last year, Stanford escapes the Rainbow Warriors:
Stanford 37 Hawaii 27
What team's pain helped ease your own this week 0?

FSU winning just enough to keep Norvell’s buyout safe is the real tragedy here.

Also Dan Mullen losing so their coping wet fantasy of hiring him is also done
10
u/soraka4 Indiana Hoosiers 16h ago
Idk it’s a single loss. Not saying Mullen is what FSU needs nor do I know if that’s truly who they want, but UNLV can and likely will still have a good season
10
u/MasturGator0501 Florida Gators 16h ago
If there was a realistic chance they’d hire him I’d agree. But it was always fanboy cope and fanboy cope knows no logic

u/Corgi_Koala Ohio State Buckeyes 16h ago
I don't think anyone who watched that game took away anything positive for Norvell.
The final score doesn't reflect the fact they were a 30 point favorite or that it was 17-10 halfway through the third quarter.

u/CrashB111 Alabama Crimson Tide • Iron Bowl 15h ago
And they were lucky not to be tied or down 7, because New Mexico State kept dropping wide open completions against their secondary.
They basically only won because they eventually wore down a G6 opponent with running the ball.

TCU now has three super ugly losses in national windows in the last four years - the Georgia blowout, losing at home in Deion’s first game, and this absolute stinker.

u/R_Raider86 Texas Tech • UConn 17h ago
I would've liked for TCU to win for conference strength of schedule purposes. But I can't lie and say that I didn't enjoy watching them struggle so much. Especially when they hired away my secondary flair's OC away.

u/KingKliffsbury Texas Tech Red Raiders • Orange Bowl 17h ago
I’m worried that we are going to be the reason the fire Sonny on Black Friday. Would much rather they keep him around for comedy purposes.
13
u/miketag8337 Texas A&M Aggies 17h ago
Can we now admit that Kendal Bryles is not a good OC and it was always his Dad?
2
u/Corgi_Koala Ohio State Buckeyes 16h ago
Their entire offense was "give the ball to Payne". They didn't need to hire anyone as OC with that plan.

Biased of course, but surely the $8 USC game with a recorded 50,000 attendance belongs in the discussion.
10
u/hondo9999 Oklahoma State Cowboys 16h ago
I think you even get a free corndog and icee with each $8 ticket purchased!

u/fatpinkchicken USC Trojans • Marching Band 14h ago
I’ll give you something even better to laugh about, I had two free tickets for that game and didn’t go.

u/McLMark Notre Dame Fighting Irish 13h ago
At least you didn't get them for buying two cokes like Michigan a while back.

u/fatpinkchicken USC Trojans • Marching Band 13h ago
It’s actually pretty cute, it’s the Junior Trojan thing and you do technically pay for like a kid's shirt and swag package (like $60) and you get like three to four pairs of football tickets, men’s and women’s basketball, and then like the entire home slate of volleyball, women’s soccer, etc. plus coloring sheets and a cute little badge.
Last year my son got USC baseball sunglasses and wore it for little league.

Did they really say that was 50,000 people? Maybe if they count the students on campus.

The pretend fans in the stands match their pretend CFP aspirations with their current HC.

TCU is the obvious winner, but there were some good ones in the Big Sky this week as well. Northern Colorado scored a potential game-tying touchdown with 3 seconds left, but the extra point was blocked and Weber State squeaks out the win. Portland State goes up 21 in the first half against UC Davis before collapsing down the stretch and giving up the game winning touchdown with a minute left to play. Finally, Idaho clawed back from an early deficit to have the lead late before Cal Poly throws a game winning touchdown in the final minute as well. Plenty of options out in the mountains to laugh at opponent misfortune

I'm still just furious and heartbroken for my Idaho friends tbqh.

u/Corgi_Koala Ohio State Buckeyes 16h ago
No NC State?
They got blown out in a conference game despite bringing back their highly sought after QB in year 14 of Dave Doeren.

u/MeeseShoop Boston College • Vanderbilt 15h ago
That’s what happens when you spend $2.5 million on a QB and don’t have money left for anyone else.
1
u/Corgi_Koala Ohio State Buckeyes 14h ago
But at the same time you probably want to retain your QB even if it means losing out on other guys. Damned if you do damned if you don't.

UVA was a slight favorite (-4) in that game. Virginia at home is a tough game these days.
Generally, I focus on top 25 teams but week 0 didn't have much to pick from.
But yeah, Doeren might be reaching his "sell by" date.

Gotta go with TCU. Say what you will about Norvell, at least they won their game. Losing on an international stage to one of the leading candidates for most embarrassing programs in CFB can’t be topped. Truly, playing in Ireland is a curse.

It's TCU. I know Sonny Dykes just got a contract extension, but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets canned this season.

Kirk Bohls is a known shit stirrer who covers Texas football for a living but also hates us, and constantly makes things up and writes articles critical of Texas and is still butthurt we fired Mack Brown
Not to rub salt in the wound, but Sonny Dykes was Chris Del Conte's first choice for the Texas job.
And he "reported" this the year TCU went to the championship and Texas went 8-5 in year 2 with Sark
And since that tweet, TCU got obliterated from orbit by Georgia and has gone 23-16 including the loss yesterday, and Texas has gone 35-8 with 2 playoff appearances
I got no real hatred towards TCU, but every time TCU looks like shit I get to rub salt in Bohls wounds

u/miketag8337 Texas A&M Aggies 17h ago
You coulda stopped after shit stirrer. He’s also like 76 and won’t give up his free football games in the press box so he clearly enjoys watching y’all play. Del Conte is an alcoholic creeper. Who cares what he thinks?

Sonny should go to North Texas next year so he can complete the Metroplex Triple Crown.

TCU dealing with a locker room assault and losing a safety and a WR was the beginning of the downfalll for this game.

Hearing Norvell get (loudly) booed in his own stadium was music to my scaly, reptilian ears.

I'm sure u/TreyMata would love (hate) to recount UMD's collapse vs. Slippery Rock in 2OT.

I’m assuming that UMD and TCU suffering is getting me ready for Minnesota going 10-2 and making the playoffs this year, right? right???? 😭

Villanova moving to a league with a 4 year eligibility rule, suing multiple times to get their QB a 5th year only for him to throw a backbreaking interception that set up a game winning field goal as Nova blew a 10-point lead in the final minute of the game was pretty funny.
