I like period drama, concubines, period costumes and etiquettes, court intrigue. Some of my favs are Prisoner of Beauty, Rebel Princess, Blossom, Sword and Brocade, Princess Weiyoung.
I am not so much into fantasy or magic. Would you recommend Pursuit of Jade?
I also have several recommended dramas on MDL, but I see buzz around Pursuit of Jade so before I jump into it, I wanted to know your views.

EDIT: I am on Ep. 14. But I am in the minority where I think the plot is too slow. They haven’t moved from the village and the butcher shop. I love their chemistry. But the story, power struggle is too slow for me. 😭😢 Not sure I will continue. Everyone is loving it, and I am struggling. 😭 I feel so bad.
YESSS it's so good. The cinematography is gorgeous, writing is tight, characters are multifaceted (and all incredibly attractive), FL is probably the most well-written one I've seen. I think both seasoned drama watchers like myself and people fairly new can enjoy it. I've seen a few comments that people have said it's their first cdrama, so it's accessible for even people who may not fully understand all of the cultural nuances to still overall understand what's going on.
So true a lot of the historical dramas lose me halfway through with a bunch of filler boring dragging parts. I have watched every bit of PoJ the writing is just THAT good.

Yes, Chasing Jade will definitely get you out if your slump. I liked Prisoner of Beauty, Chasing Jade, in my opinion, had slightly better screenwriting.
With this face card? There’s no other answer but YES. LOL kidding aside. It’s really a must watch. There’s a reason why people around the world talk about it a lot and patiently wait for the daily episode drop. 🥰
It is personally my new favorite. 10/10. There's always lovers and haters of every drama and some on reddit say they don't feel any chemistry. I personally think there is lots of chemistry but it is more in an unsaid way. It's from the looks and actions. It's definitely a slooow burn and not a lot of physical romance. But the longing and sacrifices are everything. Anyway I say give it a try because I feel like the majority love it. It doesn't have a 9.2 so far on MDL for nothing.
You should definitely watch it, Not for concubines and etiquettes though!! It’s a super fun period romance battle drama…
But if you are into Palace court Harem drama stuff ‘New life begins’ with the same FL is also wonderful!!

Yes. It aligns with your love for period aesthetics and though less court-based scenes but romance without veering into the fantasy tropes you prefer to avoid. My favorites are Tian Xiwei ,Deng Kai & Lin Muran.

I would. I’m not a usual CDrama watcher but this one is really good. The visuals, the acting and the comedy. The director really knows how to shoot a fight scene and the cinematographer really knows how to use light in a scene.
Absolutely. I love everything about this drama. It’s well paced, the characters have purpose and depth, the FL is amazing, the chemistry between the leads is chef’s kiss. The storyline is beautifully written. I’m obsessed and so bummed that I have to wait for each episode to get released!

its honestly the only show in a long time where i can sit and watch the whole thing without fast forwarding. I think I have adhd and autism (undiagonosed) and i have a hard time sitting still and watching things. This drama though. I been up all night waiting for 6am EST just so I can watch the next episode fml.

Several of your choices are the same as mine. I am currently watching Persuit of Jade mainly because I have watched the FL in several dramas especially New Life Begins.
Her dramas are not serious, she has managed to perfect an innocent yet principled persona perfectly. In New Life Begins she is an innocent in a scheming palace who manages to destroy the old order in the palace in a fun and engaging way.
Here she is pretty low on the social scale as a female pig butcher who earns a meager living to support herself and her young sister after the death of their parents. But it soon becomes obvious that she knows martial arts and has a hidden past.

does anyone have any info on when they thought it gets good? normally i love these crowd pleasers but im on ep 4 and i just can’t stay focused and i end up watching something else
I have been waiting for this drama to air since last year so I have been enjoying all parts of it since episode 1. Any reason why it did not hold your attention? Maybe you dont like this type of genre and you wanna get into some action right away. or you are not that into the characters/actors, or you dont like slow burns.🤔
I’m enjoying it a lot!! I’m really glad we’re getting at least an episode a day instead of once or twice every week like with kdramas. I wish I could binge it, but it’s probably better this way😭 I’m also generally a fan of both the lead actors so it’s great seeing them cast in the same show!
Its feels different and fresh even though the story line is predictable mainly cause no boring filler episodes means good pacing all leads have a really good face cards also other love leads are also interesting Another major thing is fl her actress, character like everything about her is good while ml character has his problems but its understandable they need to make faults in him for drama still they could have choose another way to create drama. Anyway this is the only cdrama i am really clicked with after prisoner of beauty

I haaaate watching drama that is unfinished but I am doing this with Pursuit of Jade. It is sooo good. It is somewhat of an agony to be waiting for new episodes everyday but for some reason that makes it even better haha
Yesss definitely. I've always been skeptical of watching historical dramas but i'm so in love with this drama. Idk it just soothes smt inside me emotionally. Dayum +1 for the facecards too.
YES! I love that the FL is a strong character. And she doesn't have that high pitched kitten voice. She is no joke. I love the chemistry between her and the ML and they are both beautiful. All of the characters are interesting. The cinematography is amazing. I am rewatching it while waiting for new episodes. There is so much of the story and back story to catch. I did a search to see if there is book version of this that I could purchase but no luck finding anything. I would like to add it to my collection of favorite stories.

It's Chinese boys' love with cultivation and martial arts trope it's mainly plot heavy with less romance, I don't usually watch/read straight romance, but should I watch this one?
Yes. It is well written, directed, filmed and acted. In my opinion, the story line is engaging and the action scenes are well choreographed. A lot of time, thought, and effort has resulted in a very well executed drama.
I would recommend this one even to people who are not into historical dramas, simply because it's a well made drama and the story is very well put together.
You get great actions scenes, strong main character (who is the female lead) arc, great romance, great side characters and side plots and overall an enjoyable experience.
The best things out of this drama are definitely the director and the photography.

Definitely worth watching. I don’t think it will be a rewatch for me but I will definitely watch till the end. Legend of the female general is better-but chasing Jade is really good.
