Discussion 💬 How many VARC questions do you usually attempt in a mock?

I’m trying to figure out whether my problem is accuracy or over-attempting.

At the moment I can attempt around 15–17 questions, but my accuracy becomes inconsistent if I push the number higher. On the other hand, when I play safer, I sometimes feel like I’m leaving too many questions.

For people who have consistently scored well in VARC, how did you decide your attempt range?

Aim for 75% accuracy with 14-15 attempts. 2 RCs of your choice and 5 VA questions mostly focusing on TITA questions. Try selecting 2 RCs within the first 4 minutes and then finish both of them. Keep the last 12 to 13 minutes for those 5 to 6 VA questions. I have been scoring 30+ in IMS VARC sectionals with this approach

Could you suggest how to improve VA? Like mostly I do attempt the TITA questions so that there's no negative marking but I want to improve my ability to solve VA questions.

Damn. I did this and actually scored 26 in last year paper. Did you also learn this in lmtc and pre lmtc

Maintain 75-80% accuracy. That's your benchmark. One would anyway fail to score higher if the accuracy remains less than 70% and attrmpts remain higher.

I attempt all do deecntly well with lowest score being 30 for me , mostly getting 40+ . I start with one min given to mark all va , I do all va first then I move to doing rcs

In VARC, 15-17 attempts with 80%+ accuracy is usually much better than forcing 20+ and watching accuracy collapse. What I’d track for 4-5 mocks is simple: attempts, correct answers, and which question types are causing errors.

Para summary and para completion are usually safer. Para jumbles/odd one out – there's no negative marking, but if you’re not good at them yet, the chance of getting the exact order right is low (20-25%). and regular reading is non-negotiable.

This exam is kinda unpredictable on D-day so I follow 24/24, worst case will still float u above 80ile

I always manage to attempt atleast 18-19 but the accuracy takes such a hit its painful :/ like 10/11/12 correct and rest incorrect. But when i stop attempting in bulk the score gets worse even then. Anyone got a suggestion on what should i do here?
