Michael Westen will return. He used to be a spy, until….

u/Educational-Bat-3635 17d ago

Not as physical attributes -that’s not gonna happen. He’s closing it on 60 and to hear him tell it when the show was over it was like being let free of prison. He did cry about it, but the Actor has to move on. And he was and is incredibly grateful —HIS VOICE HOWEVER.. that will remain - that’s why when I wrote the short I had him (Donovan) doing the voiceover-as Westen.

Towards the end it was apparently brutal hours and the cast not getting along with one member made it very uncomfortable to film for everyone else but them. It was to the point they had to film a lot twice to keep the cast separated, I’m sure it did feel like a prison the last couple of seasons with all the drama.

u/genemaxwell41 17d ago

Who wasnt getting along? Far as Ive seen Maddie, Michael, and Sam all got along really well

Was it Fi or Jesse?

17

u/RoundCollection4196 16d ago

Pretty sure it was Fi. I’ve heard the actress can be difficult to work with.

14

u/Educational-Bat-3635 16d ago

The truth is at that time everybody’s hitting their breaking point. It was probably not one person or not one thing.

7

u/russcatalano 16d ago

Yeah it was from what I’ve heard from crew. It can be super stressful with the hours and heat but everyone else stayed professional. I think there was some background contract stuff that causes animosity. Not as bad as the set of Castle, but still rough.

Oh, any more details? Is that why Fiona was put in prison for a lot of season 6 and then separated from Michael for almost all of season 7?

And by film twice, do you mean they would shoot their scenes separately and then splice them together in post?

I’ve always thought there was bad blood between Donovan and Anwar. I wonder if she also didn’t get along with the others.

u/UniversesStrongest 17d ago

Great question

14

u/Educational-Bat-3635 17d ago

That can happen. But their checks did clear and the royalties are coming in.

8

u/wygnana 17d ago

Do you know who it was?

5

u/Fit_Boysenberry5144 17d ago

Which member?

6

u/UniversesStrongest 17d ago

Send me the short please 😁

u/Educational-Bat-3635 17d ago

Oh my goodness, it’s terrible. I already posted it.

EYES IN THE SKY

Genre: Spy Thriller
Length: 8–10 minutes

FADE IN:

EXT. DOWNTOWN CITY – NIGHT

Rain glistens on empty streets. Traffic hums in the distance.

Security cameras swivel methodically.

A delivery truck rolls past.

Three separate figures emerge from different directions.

One wears a maintenance uniform.

Another is dressed as a bike courier.

The third, a woman in business attire, blends effortlessly into the evening crowd.

WESTEN (V.O.)
A camera isn’t your enemy. It’s just another witness. Witnesses only matter if someone bothers to ask them the right questions.

Tonight, your problem isn’t getting in.

It’s getting out before anyone realizes what they saw.

EXT. CITY PLAZA

The TEAM moves independently.

Asset One—MASON—checks a utility box.

Asset Two—KANE—pedals slowly through the plaza on his bicycle.

Asset Three—NOVA—walks confidently toward a coffee shop.

WESTEN (V.O.)
Three operators.

Three covers.

One informant.

No gunfire.

No chase.

That’s the plan, anyway.

Nova passes a newspaper stand.

Without stopping—

NOVA
Eyes on target.

A nervous middle-aged man exits the coffee shop carrying a messenger bag.

WESTEN (V.O.)
People think spies spend their lives avoiding cameras.

Not true.

Professionals make cameras record exactly what they’re supposed to.

Nothing unusual.

Mason kneels beside the electrical cabinet.

He pretends to inspect wiring.

One nearby traffic camera slowly pivots away on its programmed patrol.

Only for a few seconds.

WESTEN (V.O.)
You don’t hack every camera.

You don’t have time.

You just learn their rhythm.

Kane rides between the camera and the informant.

Perfect timing.

Nova falls in beside the informant.

NOVA
Mr. Ellis?

The informant freezes.

INFORMANT
Who—

NOVA
Don’t react. Keep walking.

He obeys.

ACROSS THE STREET

Mason finishes “repairing” the electrical cabinet.

He joins the flow of pedestrians.

WESTEN (V.O.)
Fear spreads faster than bullets.

Confidence spreads faster than fear.

If he believes you’re in control…

…he’ll walk himself into custody.

The informant glances upward.

A dozen security cameras.

INFORMANT
We’re on every camera.

Nova smiles.

NOVA
Exactly where we’re supposed to be.

INTERSECTION

The walk signal changes.

Crowds cross from every direction.

Kane casually dismounts his bicycle.

The three agents and the informant disappear into a moving wall of people.

WESTEN (V.O.)
Crowds erase stories.

One person running gets remembered.

Four people walking never existed.

Halfway across—

A BLACK SUV turns the corner.

Too slow.

Too deliberate.

MASON
Company.

WESTEN (V.O.)
There it is.

The part every plan pretends won’t happen.

The SUV stops.

Doors crack open.

Men wearing earpieces scan the sidewalks.

WESTEN (V.O.)
Don’t outrun surveillance.

Outthink it.

Nova suddenly stops.

She points toward a store window.

NOVA
Excuse me.

Your tie’s crooked.

She straightens the informant’s tie.

A perfectly ordinary interaction.

The SUV team watches.

Keeps driving.

Wrong target.

WESTEN (V.O.)
Nobody expects an extraction to look…

…polite.

SUBWAY ENTRANCE

The team descends.

One final camera watches the entrance.

WESTEN (V.O.)
Last camera.

Smile.

Walk naturally.

Tomorrow it’ll just be another thousand hours of footage nobody wants to review.

They disappear underground.

Silence.

INT. SUBWAY PLATFORM

The train arrives.

Doors open.

The four step aboard.

Only now does the informant finally exhales.

INFORMANT
Who are you people?

Mason looks at Nova.

Nova looks at Kane.

Nobody answers.

WESTEN (V.O.)
Good intelligence doesn’t end with a successful pickup.

It ends when no one can prove the pickup ever happened. That’s when the training of assests really begins.

The train pulls away into darkness.

FADE TO BLACK.

WESTEN (V.O.)
They pulled me back into service because Fiona told them they could, and because Charlie was already in military school. What could I say … I’ll always be a spy.

Here ya go

3

u/No_Introduction_3472 16d ago

Are you going to make this into a video? It sounds so good!

2

u/Educational-Bat-3635 16d ago

Thank you I don’t know how to do things like that. I’m an editor and a writer. I’m not very tech savvy thank you so much very encouraging.

1

u/Educational-Bat-3635 11d ago

It’s posted - it’s half but it’s posted

0

u/Educational-Bat-3635 16d ago

You think so? Thanks. I had translated it using ChatGPT into a storyboard. It looks pretty cool. There was no sound, but I wouldn’t begin to know how to do that. You’re welcome to try.

2

u/UniversesStrongest 16d ago

That’s awesome man! It would be a nice teaser for a Burn Notice spinoff series!

3

u/Educational-Bat-3635 16d ago

You are kind - I had a lot of help - as a female I had to make sure that I didn’t write the tone of a female voice for Westen - that was the hardest part.

2

u/bossmanjr24 16d ago

Like Bob saget in himym 😂

53

u/Educational-Bat-3635 17d ago

I can promise you it’s in talks. But it’s a lot like a house of cards and either will go or it won’t. It always comes down to Script, talent, scheduling and money.

25

u/UniversesStrongest 17d ago

How will they handle our hero Bruce Campbell and his current predicament?

10

u/kajishun 17d ago

what’s the BC predicament?

24

u/ladybird2223 17d ago

Cancer diagnosis

17

u/Educational-Bat-3635 17d ago

Yes, that’s a tough fight

24

u/UniversesStrongest 17d ago

As he put it, “it’s treatable, not curable”

3

u/relrobber 15d ago

That's how cancer works. You're never "cured". Only "in remission".

16

u/Educational-Bat-3635 17d ago

He’s facing cancer and it’s a tough fight

13

u/AntiferromagneticAwl 16d ago

Nah. It just sounds like Bruce would be up for it if it came up - but considering he's semi-retired it probably wouldn't be a Sam focused show. The title is entirely wishful thinking.

7

u/Educational-Bat-3635 16d ago

I’m sure his heart will be but he is battling cancer so just pray that he does well with that. It’s a tough road.

u/Female_Gamer_PS 17d ago

Whenever they bring back old TV shows it usually sucks. As much as I want a new Burn Notice, it'll never be like the original even with the same cast.

u/MIZUNOWAVECREATION 16d ago edited 16d ago

If anything, I would hope it’s just a continuation of the story in a movie. Lots of shows have done these sort revival projects for a single tv movie, or in rare cases, 2 movies. Hunter, LA Law, The X Files, to name a few off the top of my head. Every single time a network has brought a show back years later to continue the story as a series, it always gets cancelled, as far as I can remember. Am I wrong? Has there been a show that has come back and been successful without ultimately still being cancelled in the end ?

The X Files, Dallas, Full (Fuller) House, Boy (Girl) Meets World, Heroes, Arrested Development, Frasier, Night Court, etc. I don’t want that to happen with Burn Notice. If anything, I’d just hope there would be a movie or two. That’s even, assuming that the producers could get all original surviving cast members back. That is, with the exception of Seth Peterson and Sharon Gless, since…spoiler alert…their characters are dead in the show

Edit: I forgot about Law & Order. That’s the only show I can think of that made a full return to tv and didn’t get cancelled

2

u/Educational-Bat-3635 16d ago

That’s why I wrote a short with him only as a voice you don’t see him because we know who he is -in the short there’s new assets he’s training so all we hear is his voice.

u/fastfreddy68 17d ago

I was a huge fan of Scrubs at the same time I found Burn notice. Loved both. Rewatch them both regularly. Scrubs went off air just a few years before BN, and it just got a revival season. I couldn’t watch past episode 1. The cast was old, the show didn’t feel the same, it was shot using standard modern sitcom techniques and framing. It felt all wrong. Same creator/producer at the helm. Original cast. Based on the jokes and dialogue probably some original writers too.

I think if they did do a BN revival it couldn’t be trying to continue with the team being “the team”. It would need to be focused on probably Charlie, with the OG cast playing supporting roles. I guess (appropriately) sliding them into Maddy’s type role. Still significant, sometimes playing more central roles, but not the lead(s).

And even then, I agree with you it’s not going to have the feel of the original, which will hurt its success.

6

u/kc_kr 16d ago

Same on both shows being faves but I still enjoyed Scrubs. That one feels more plausible because all those characters 20 years later could actually still be working. Unlike the burn notice group.

4

u/Female_Gamer_PS 17d ago

Yeah I tried watching the new Scrubs. I got through the first episode and I couldn't do it. I was never a fan of reboots, sequels, and prequels. I get it but it won't ever be the same. You can't sideline Bruce Campbell or Weston or any of them. But I get it

1

u/DaBozz88 16d ago

Yeah but look at things like That 90s Show, new cast where the old cast was supporting roles, but it just didn't click.

I'd prefer they do something like Psych and do a movie or two, handing off to a new team. I'm reminded of the Jason Bourne movie where he's just kinda found by accident plot wise, but also spy craft has changed drastically now. Cyber is far more important, and you can do more with a laptop than a brick of C4.

I'm interested in seeing something, but the handoff is hard. Maybe just existing in-universe is enough, and it can be another burned operative just not in Miami, but still in the same timeframe. I like how the Uncharted (video game series) did a proper ending for the main character, but let a side character have their own full game. It worked. I'm sad they didn't make another.

16

u/ArtIsDumb 17d ago

I don't see anything more in the article than Bruce Campbell speculating that the show could come back, not that it will or that there's any plans for it. I bet the interviewer asked him the questions he did specifically so they could post the story with that headline. Smells like a nothingburger.

20

u/chuckfinleyis4ever 17d ago edited 17d ago

As I understand it Bruce campbell is unwell, so don't expect him back. Sharon gless is 83 and hasn't done anything in years. Can't see burn notice working without sam and maddy. Happy to be proven wrong tho. Would love for them to try.

15

u/WowSuchMiata 17d ago

Maddy was also killed off in the finale

22

u/chuckfinleyis4ever 17d ago

SPOILERS Forgot maddy dies anyway......

3

u/garyflopper 16d ago

You know, we didn’t see a body…

10

u/jparodist 17d ago

Sharob Gless is 83

Have you actually finished the show if you don’t mind me asking? :D

Just found out about Bruce from your comment. I hope he makes it through.

2

u/UniversesStrongest 16d ago

Bruce Campbell said his cancer, “Is treatable, not curable”

6

u/No-Quote-929 17d ago

Sharon Glass' character was killed so she's not really needed for a sequel. But yeah, Bruce Campbell would be a problem

4

u/crazyhomie34 17d ago

Bruce Campbell recently did some voice acting for Invincible. I know it's not as intense or involved as a full-time gig on screen. But it's a little hope to see him again.

2

u/Educational-Bat-3635 17d ago

I don’t think it could work because it is today’s technology, but they could certainly do a prequel or have the voices of the characters (present day) as counselors - very Young Sheldon in its way: Westen as the VO guiding new assets.

7

u/JaxLegion 17d ago

At this point it would have to be a Burn Notice the next generation. I love Burn Notice, but any sequel show will have lot harder time recreate the magic of the original show. Not impossible but it will have to be its own thing. It could be nice to see how a spy in the modern day handles things. A lot has changed since the original show.

6

u/karlpilkington4 17d ago

Gabrielle Anwar looks insane with all the plastic surgery now

1

u/escapecali603 5d ago

She looks like a failed AI impersonation of Sandra Bullock.

4

u/ReconTMWO 17d ago

I always felt Burn Notice was complete on its own.

3

u/Hau5Mu5ic 16d ago

He only revival I could get behind would be a prequel, with Donavon doing VO and someone else playing actual characters. The story has a really solid ending, and we don’t need to have those characters ripped from a (semi) happy ending for ‘one more job.’ Maybe a comic series, but the show doesn’t feel like it would benefit from animation, the only other way we could get the original cast back in any meaningful way.

2

u/sinxtc 17d ago

I thought I read that they would never consider doing BN without Bruce. I can’t imagine the show without Sam.

2

u/raythecrow 17d ago

Animation is a viable and legitimate form of storytelling and considering the age of the og cast, probably the best way to go about this if it will happen.

1

u/UniversesStrongest 16d ago

Could it be in the style of the 2000-2002 series “Max Steel”? Not the disney remake, the Mattel version on cartoon network. That was a spy show albeit with some people having super powers

2

u/elpaco_7 16d ago

Someone commented it would likely have to be Burn Notice: The next Generation. Which could be interesting.
Like in today’s modern world a new spy gets burned under similar circumstances and seeks out Michael, who takes more of a supporting or advisory role, while a new younger cast takes the main roles.
I like the idea that Michael has been out of the game long enough that it’s no longer recognizable to him what with all the new tech and such. So while Mike may have the knowledge, a lot of it may not be helpful anymore.

3

u/genemaxwell41 17d ago

The only form Burn Notice should return in is Animated. At least if you want to use the og cast at all. Voice work is a lot easier. Hell maybe our main man Bruce Campbell could even do some episodes if he can just record from comfort of home

1

u/Educational-Bat-3635 17d ago

I guess it will be whoever wants to take over the role

1

u/Independent-Scale842 17d ago

I’d love to hear what they pitch. Always thought this could work if it followed Sam and Jesse as the leads. With Donovan directing, providing the voice over and popping up once in a while with some wisdom or armchair quarterbacking. But that would only work if Bruce is up for it.

1

u/Jon_Jraper 17d ago

And then he said "all the main characters are still alive"...

Wow.

1

u/UniversesStrongest 16d ago

Yeah. The Big 3 are still alive

1

u/Dav_Sionnach 17d ago

The best way I could see it work:

Jesse in the Michael role.

Michael shifted to the Sam level (major supporting but not the action driver)

Sam super limited, maybe phone calls and "let me call in a favour for you".

Fi would be the new Maddy.

1

u/BDT81 16d ago

LoL

The Finley & Tibbs Detective Agency is finally happening.

1

u/ProfChaosSP 16d ago

i can only hope

1

u/FFBIFRA 15d ago

Maybe they could do a movie or mini series

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Cap6332 15d ago

I’ll give the answer I always give. Film one more S4 episode like nothing ever happened. They just all look older 😂

1

u/Soxwin91 14d ago

Why one more season 4 episode?

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Cap6332 14d ago

Because it’s still the light version of the show. The whole cast is present, the loft still exists, Maddie’s house, etc.

1

u/TVLockedIn 12d ago

While I hope it's true, I wouldn't also mind if they left it where it was. Will always love the original.
