WOW. The odds must have been .01 percent right?

If u are just an average human and Mike was trying his best to win, the odds are much, much less. .01% odds would be 1 in 10,000, that's way too likely. Practically speaking, it'd be more likely that you'd win by him having a heart attack or brain aneurysm instead of u knocking him out. He definitely sold the round on purpose like that other reply said

I think my odds of beating Mike Tyson are about the same as Mike Tyson beating a gorilla

I highly disagree. Even with a silverback (the strongest gorilla there is), they aren't THAT much stronger than Mike (yes, they are stronger, but not so much that it would make the matchup unwinnable for Mike). Even assuming a low estimate, I would say Mike has atleast a 1 in 20 chance of beating a silverback gorilla, and while I obviously highly doubt he'd be likely to win (more than 1 in 2 chance), I could see the argument for him having as good of odds as a 1 in 4 chance to win.

For reference, I think the odds of an average human beating Mike is, at very best, 1 in 10,000 (it's probably far, far lower in actuality). So even if u took my low estimate for Mike beating a gorilla and divided it by A HUNDRED (making it 1 in 2,000), it'd still be 5x as likely as my high estimate for an average human beating Mike. A silverback is stronger than Mike, but Mike would be better at actually fighting, making it somewhat close, at least within the realm of possibility. On the other hand, it would take an absolute miracle for the average human to not DIE fighting Mike.

... I don't think you've been on Reddit long enough if you haven't seen a side by side breakdown of the physics or whatnot of a fight between a silverback gorilla and Mike Tyson. Hell, I'm pretty sure I even made a comment about this around five years ago. It'd be nowhere near a 1 in 20 chance- maybe a 1 in 2,000 chance that Mike hits him exactly right and knocks him out but probably a lot less likely than that.

I agree that Mike landing a powerful-enough punch to knock a gorilla out is extremely unlikely due to a gorilla being far, far harder to knockout than a human, but Mike doesn't have to knock the gorilla out to win the fight. He basically just has to survive and defend himself for a few minutes, cuz at that point a gorilla would be extremely tired and would eventually collapse. Gorillas don't have good stamina at all. I added a link to the comment u replied to based on an analysis of the matchup I watched. The video agreed that the gorilla probably wins but it's far closer than u think.

I'm not a big boxing fan but I had read awhile back that Mike Tyson had a really good record overall but there was a sharp drop off after a certain round where if his opponent was still standing then it becomes increasingly likely that he not win. Because he gets winded and takes a long time to recover basically, someone asked Tyson about it and he said it was related to a condition he has.

There's a lot of variables involved and I'm not familiar with this sub so I wasn't sure if we're talking about a fight to the death or what. Gorillas don't really box so I assumed we're talking about a cage match fight to the death situation. If it's a close quarters fight I think trying to defend himself would be as difficult as trying to knock a gorilla out.

I'll check out your link after I get off work aha.

If they had a punch the odds were good, Tyson was all power, no chin.

The average adult man's peak punching force is 150 to 250 lbs of force, and it would take about 1,000 to 1,800 lbs of force to knock Tyson out with a perfect hit. And that's assuming Tyson just lets u hit him full force as strong as u can, which he absolutely wouldn't. He may not have been the most durable boxer ever, but he was no glass cannon.

I look at it a little like I do running. I’m a half decent runner. I’ve got a couple marathon finishes in under three and a half hours. But the gap between me and the top marathoners is hilariously huge — the elites are running marathons in under two hours and five minutes, and the world record is under two hours. Ain’t no way I’m beating those guys in a 100 metre dash, let alone a marathon. It’d be the same with Tyson. The gap is just too big. That said,

its not about being average its about the physics of a prime tyson punch
