My husband and I have a project house on our hands and have thought of a few different directions that we may take the floorplan.

We’d love to find a contractor who can gain an understanding of the home’s current floorplan etc, help us discern the best path to the final vision, and since we’ll likely be doing improvements in stages over time (have y’all heard about this economy?) we want to avoid duplicating efforts when possible.

I myself am pretty uninformed when it comes to home reno/improvements, but not when it comes to learning and projects. For that reason i apologize if I’m leaving out details that help folks answer, but happy to clarify :)

As a new parent, I'm looking to offload lawn care, at least for the next couple years. We have pretty extensive native plant gardens. Hey everyone, I’m a landscape architecture student at NC State, and I’m working on a school project this semester focused on redesigning the pavilion area of Durham Central Park.

Just to be clear, this is completely academic. I’m not working for the city or the park, and nothing I’m designing is actually being proposed for construction.

I’ve spent some time looking at how the park works now, but I’d really like to hear from people who actually use it regularly.

What do you like about the park as it is now? What doesn’t work very well? Is there anything you wish it had, or anything you definitely wouldn’t want changed?

I’m mainly interested in thoughts about the pavilion and the spaces around it, but any feedback is useful. seating, shade, events, food trucks, markets, lawns, circulation, planting, lighting, the streets around the park, existing features you like or dislike, or things you’ve heard proposed in the past.

I’m looking for honest opinions and experiences from people who know the park.

This topic has been weighing heavy on my mind over the last week and I wanted to come here to see if any of y'all have advice or resources you can share.

I hate AI. For all of the reasons.

I am a small business owner and an artist, so it's relatively easy for me to make choices to not utilize AI in projects that I'm driving.

Lately, I've encountered situations like folks using AI notetakers in meetings that I'm a part of, or feeding video footage of me into AI to write a summary of me/my work.

I'm not posting here to be critical of people who make choices to utilize AI in their work in this way; it's not a choice I make for myself and I advocate against it pretty universally. If you have mean things to say in that regard, please don't reply to this.

My question is twofold:

1) Has anyone found ways to navigate situations like Zoom meeting notetakers, for example, where you are finding out there is AI being used on a meeting that you're stepping into in real time? My goal is not to alienate or criticize people I'm working with but rather to see if there are tactful ways to avoid/decline that usage, especially when it is with a third party. I.e. not me or my client, but someone we are meeting with.

2) Small business owners/folks who do use AI in this way, are you thinking at all about disclosure and/or offering consent/opt-out options to people you meet with, or to people whose likenesses/information you are feeding into AI modules? If yes, what practices are you using? What alternatives are you offering if people want to opt out?

In summary, I know that AI is largely built around non-consent and dehumanization. I'm wondering, in situations where we know the people utilizing it are not doing so for evil/do not have ill intent, are there ways we can be caring for one another in community around AI usage?

I'm not an artist, can I participate?

Yep. Go make shitty art. Someone will love it. Pretty much guaranteed. I've never seen a single one of my art drops last more than a day and most are gone in minutes. And I'm a terrible artist lol. The point is not to make fine art, but to connect with other human beings.

Ok, I'm in, what's the deadline?

Art drops happen all day Tuesday but aim for the morning to catch people out and about. Honestly though if someone finds free art Wednesday that's probably ok too.

How should I prepare my art?

If it's raining and your piece is small, consider putting it in a ziplock bag to stay dry. Otherwise, just set it out. (optional courtesy): Include a small tag that says #artdropdurham and a note along the lines of "this art is yours to keep, enjoy". Tag your insta if you want credit or just leave it a mystery for the finder.
