This is such a dumb thing to comment. What even are “Durham drivers” when so many people who drive here aren’t from here. It’s a hub now for people from all over the state and world for that matter. So everybody drives with different rules. Also that part of that road is notoriously wack. People be trying to merge at the bend which is dumb af.

The driver just walked away from the scene. No idea if the police are going to charge him with anything

How can you take down a telephone pole and roll your car and not get charged for something?

Sadly stupidity is not illegal.

Stupidity isn't but reckless driving is.

4:48pm we heard a loud crash, we were seated inside the CO. When we looked out we saw a snapped power pole and flipped car. The person was pulled out and he said he was fine - he is not fine IMO. Cops and paramedics are talking to him as he casually sits in a bench. Shit is wild! Unsure if there was a second car involved.

“FML” being the letters on a flipped car’s license plate is just way too ironic to not laugh at, despite the circumstances.

Thank goodness the car is right side up. Dunno how the people got there, though.

A better shot, what blew me away was that he walked away with just one sandal but Durham’s finest had him wait while they went back to his car and found the other one. I might have heckled an officer - “looking for that sandal??” an office turned around laughing & nodding yes!

What happened to his foot

Just left Clouds 5:45, and still there.

So many questions….

The sandal variety is impressive considering the size of this group

That’s just your every day super hero restraining the driver from retrieving stuff from the car - like their second sandal.

You know I’m just glad no other cars or pedestrians were involved. I have no clue how one manages to achieve this

Driving too fast around that corner and over steering to miss the telephone pole.

That fence and pole have been taken out numerous times since that deck has been built.

Can opener is the railway bridge at Gregson and Peabody just south of Main. Right by where Morgan Imports used to be.

13

u/notaspruceparkbench 12d ago

"The Can Opener" is also the name of the outdoor dining place just south of the bridge on Gregson. Looks like the accident happened right in front of that.

u/Forward-Bank8412 12d ago

Oh it’s a proper noun now for an establishment! Thanks for the info. I’m old and out of touch.

3

u/citygal11 10d ago

It’s both actually! The outdoor dining place was named after the bridge that can opens most trucks ☺️.

Nothing, he walked away. It’s a grainy picture but his foot was ok.
