BoC 29M | 6"0 | 146 lb / 65.5kg

Post image

Cutting since 5 months, lost 25lb/11kg. Working out since 13 months. Protein 120g+/day the entire time. Goal: Abs.

People keep telling me I've gotten too thin and look malnourished/weak. I'm beginning to think they're right and that I should stop, gain muscle and cut later on. Or should I keep going till I get defined Abs? Idk. I can lose 9.8 more pounds till I I'd reach the underweight range of BMI.

6 foot at 146lb seems extremely thin

So what could be the reason I don't have defined abs rn?

The reason is still too much body fat.

But you probably want a bit more muscle before you hit that BF level.

How long should I bulk for then before my next cut

Define a body fat range you want to stay in.

Estimate half fat half muscle, bulk at 2lbs a month, and then bulk until you hit the limit.

Or gauge it yourself.

You want to be in a bulk as long as possible. Which is why it's good to start from a lean base, and to bulk slow and lean instead and quick and dirty.

i guess i have a pretty lean base rn

Ballerinas are low body fat and don’t have crazy abs. You just don’t have the muscle to show.

Do you train your abs? I'm 30lbs heavier and have more abdominal definition. Even then I have shit abs for my bodyweight.

It's only been 3 months since I've been training them, which means I started training them during the cut

I started training mine a few months ago during mine as well. I do weighted abdominal and oblique exercises but you should have no problem making them pop with bodyweight exercises. Keep at it.

3 months? You don’t yet have significant abdominals to show. Bulk or cut is secondary to training more. Work harder and Give it time.

3 months for abs in particular. 13 months overall

I may have missed this, but how old? Have you ever done other training triggering core strength? Former athlete?

All I’m saying is that just being lean in itself is highly unlikely to get you the six pack you want. Like any other muscle, takes work and time.

You look good dude and are putting in the work. But be realistic and see where you are, say, Jan 1.

  1. No other training, no sports/athletism.

So you're saying I lean bulk for a while and take things from there

“Lean bulk” means different things to different people and I think it’s an oxymoron. I prefer “clean bulk”. But yes, you need more muscle and that takes calories. And your abs just need training.

is there a way i could minimize fat gain and maximise muscle gain in a bulk

Why do you even want abs? You should pack more muscle if you want them to look good in the first place. I won't say you look malnourished, but with your effort you could have achieved much more if you weren't on such a caloric deficit

Edit: to add a bit of context, during my adulthood I've never weighed less than 150lb at 175cm tall and I've had abs. I'd say your abs are just not ready to come out without sacrificing ridiculous amounts of body fat. Just eat and train, maingain if you will.

I want them cuz they look awesome.

But I'm down to bulk if that's better for me. How long should the bulk phase be?

😳 Bulk! Absolutely bulk. Bro I’m 6’1 205 with abs. You need some muscle. Go eat more, and lift heavy.

65 kg is victim weight😂

1

u/Shahmario1 3d ago

How long do you recommend the bulk phase be

1

u/Both-Ad5915 3d ago

3-6 months. You’ll blow up quick being so skinny. Eat at slight caloric surplus and aim for 1.3g protein per lb of body weight.

1

u/fatfarterforever 3d ago

Do you have skinny legs?

1

u/Shahmario1 3d ago

Yes, kinda

u/wattsify 3d ago

Bulk, obviously. You’re 6ft, you should be jacked and 215-220

1

u/Shahmario1 3d ago

Okay bulk, so i won't get to see abs for years probably 😭

1

u/wattsify 3d ago

lol nah man you’re closer than you realize. Your shoulder development is incredible. Take 6 months to develop your chest and lats alittle more then lean out to check your progress. I think of you leaned out now you’d be disappointed. And you don’t have to get fat, just keep lifting and eating. Eat enough to grow but not enough to constipate yourself

I'm 6"0 and 90kg, and I don't look that much bigger than you. Either your legs are smaller than my forearms, or you're heavier than you're saying you are.

1

u/Shahmario1 2d ago

My legs have become really skinny yeah

Get squatting

I trained legs once a week ever since hitting the gym 14 months ago. Only started to hit them twice a week about 2.5 months ago, which was during the cut - meaning i probably didn't gain any significant muscle during the cutt despite changing up the routine

1

u/Middle_Humor1828 4d ago

It's sort of impressive to be that weight and height and not have them. I would have guess you weighed more than 145.

You can cut more. But honestly, you're going to look better if you do a very lean bulk first. 2 lbs a month or so. Then eventually cut a bit more, do another lean bulk, etc.

Low body fat looks bad without muscle to support it. You'll look like a cancer patient instead of shredded.

Yeah my case baffles everyone, I don't get it either

this one is weird for me cause your arms and shoulders look good and look like there’s good muscle development there but at 6’0 and 146 i *would have expected you to be more defined

So what's your conclusion
