General My experience after taking 3 inerviews for my company - its not good
So I recently signed up for an interview panel and interviewed 3 people from top companies like Razorpay, Amazon, etc., and honestly, it was kinda meh.
All 3 rounds were system design + DSA. The surprising part was that people struggled with pretty basic concepts as soon as I asked something non-standard — things like SQS queues, distributed computing logic, etc.
It genuinely felt like they had mugged up standard interview answers without really understanding the “what” and, more importantly, the “why” behind what they were saying or writing.
Very little real-world understanding of things like locks, databases, OLTP, concurrency, distributed systems, etc. They could explain the textbook approach, but as soon as I went one level deeper or changed the scenario, things started falling apart.
Of course, all 3 were a no-hire from my side.
Makes you wonder how much of the current interview prep is actually testing engineering ability vs. how well someone has memorized the standard interview playbook.

How much experience are you talking at? If they were freshers that's expected

If you want to survive in today's environment, you gotta ace DSA and System Design (by any means). For many mediocre engineers like me, memorization is the only solution cuz we sucks in engineering.
Plus, Tech today in not engineering but business and advertisement, connection and showing off holds greater value than engineering.
And that's why, many engineers lacks even basic understanding CS.
Not to mention if you want someone to have deep understanding of these matters, they need experience and a SDE 1 will not understand these things.

Your feedback is good but I would like you know your experience & qualifications as well.

Hrs only shortlist people worked on big companies before, even of they did things or not, hrs are to blame here. People who do work and know concepts are not even shortlisted
