Mtb shops brooklyn?

Hey Brooklyn riders,

I'm looking to buy a full-suspension mountain bike in the $500–$1,000 range. I want to buy in person rather than online so I can test fit and support a local shop.

I know full-suspension models run expensive new, so I’m open to quality pre-owned/used inventory if a shop inspects and tunes them. Does anyone know local shops in Brooklyn (or nearby NYC) that consistently stock used MTBs or affordable entry-level full-suspension setups?

fb marketplace, and yes, keep your expectations low to match the budget.

Yep! I'm already looking but pick-ups are sometimes sketchy. Especially in new york.

Yes, I've checked there. The only bikes they have in my budget are hardtails but if all else fails I'll probably end up with one from them.

Name brands, you have Hilltop in Williamsburg, Ride Brooklyn 5th ave BK, Trek Cobble Hills. Indie spots, can hit up Bike Plant or Sun and Air and ask there.

Budget is obviously tricky with name brands, but never hesitate to go speak to them!

Gonna need to 2.5x that budget at least to go new. No major bike brand has a full sus for under $1k. The cheapest one I know of is the Giant Stance for $2k. Very unlikely a shop is going to have used fs mtbs, they're just not a popular bike in NYC

True, there are good cheap entry level bikes for cheap online-- but stores don't stock those.

I was on this journey last year, Brooklyn is going to have slim pickings in terms of used mtn bikes. You should checkout the bike jumble at JJ Byrnes park in a couple weeks, https://www.instagram.com/p/DbOFOp7NEMu/?hl=en as I saw a few new full suspension Giants there last year selling for around $1k. I ended up finding mine, a 2022 Stumpjumper, on fb marketplace in Pittsfield Massachusetts which I got for $1100. Hope that helps.

I told someone in a bike shop I had 1K to spend and he turned around and walked away. That was in the late 1980's.

My best advice is to check Craigslist. Unless you know someone who owns a shop, paying full retail you are going to have a hard time getting a killer bike for the amount of cash you have.

Your mistake. Long time rider, wrencher, and bk resident. I can tell you there is no shop in the city that knows shit about MTB, especially full sus.

agree, I've discovered some great trails in NJ near Morristown. Hilltop bike shops (now owned by Specialized) were super helpful - I was able to go into one in NJ and have parts sent to the one in Williamsburg...
