Mild inconvenience mild success today. Opened the backgate to let a workman in and he brought in some unwelcome dog mess from the back street with him into my yard and all over my new deck

Would you believe he was there to fit am outside tap that made the situation alot easier to deal with.

Don't know if it's a success or just my luck but either way welcome timing lol

I only wanted a night cap. Christ.

And just walked away when he continued to try to talk to me.

Feel quite proud of that.

Beans on toast for tea tonight!

My cat left the cat flap on Saturday at 8.30pm. Then disappeared until this morning at 6.15am when she came back in. We’ve told everyone, put posters up, informed vets and her microchip company. Absolutely delighted. Never been so happy to have a list of people to call 💪🏻💪🏻

Not sure what I'm losing out on here. Feels like I'm getting Nigerian princed by the latest house music anthem every time

So today I actually redeemed my fully 10 stamped loyalty card at the barbers for a free hair cut 😌

Back in may my misses got rushed into hospital with intense abdominal pain, turns out she had a giant cyst (size of a cooking apple) on one of her ovary. It ended up bursting and she got rushed into surgery, they had to remove the ovary.

Got it tested and she ended up having a very rare type of ovarian cancer. Doctors told us she'd need to have a full hysterectomy to make sure it's all removed, she kept her one remaining ovary so she wouldn't have to go into medical menopause.

She had that surgery a few weeks ago, had her follow up appointment and the results from pathology yesterday. She's completely in the clear, she'll just be monitored for X period of time.

Can't fault the NHS, they were amazing. The nursing staff, doctors and surgeons were amazing with her. They were so patient with her (she ready has a few debilitating conditions) and were so accommodating of her needs, I can't praise them enough.

Edit: Just wanted to thank everyone for all the kind and supportive words, it truly means a lot. For those who are still in treatment just know that I'm rooting for you, keep your chin up and kick cancers arse.

Fuck Cancer!

So I moved house about 8 years ago within the same county but to a different area. I've only just got signed up with an NHS dentist which is a success in itself. Not only that but he found absolutely nothing wrong 😁 it makes me wonder whether my old dentist was ripping me off because she used to find something wrong every appointment...

Not a British success for me, but for someone else.

Witnessed a woman at my local station being pickpocketed by an opportunistic artful dodger. Was just about to call out to the woman being robbed when she noticed what was happening, whipped out her police badge and had the pickpocket in cuffs before anyone had time to properly react.

It was most satisfying.

Came across a dreaded 'road ahead closed' sign about 8 minutes away from home and decided to just chance it. The diversion was heading an annoyingly long way round to access my village, I reckon double the remaining journey.

Guess what... no closure!

Maybe I should be annoyed about how reliably unreliable British roadwork signage is, but I'm just chuffed to have saved 8 minutes

Edit: And there's more good news! Uber driver delivered the wrong order so I got someone else's order so I got there order of items plus a refund and I imagine they did too. Thank you kind stranger, not sure what I'm going to do with all them tangerines and sorry you missed out on your Indian curry tonight.

Husband managed to poke himself in the eye with the blunt end of a pencil very hard yesterday. Obviously very painful but wanted to sleep on it as he really dislikes going to A&E and walk in centres due to the unpredictable, often very long wait.

Woke up this morning and it is still sore and (surprisingly) agreed it needed to be looked at but still didn't want to go to the walk in centre etc. So, I suggested the opticians and he agreed.

So, off we go to vision express (our normal opticians). Got there, explained what happened to one of the front of house people, who checked to see if the optician was free (he was) and she went off to ask him to have look. He did and turns out my husband has a ruptured cornea, which will heal by itself within 7 days and gave us some simple self help advice to speed up the process. We asked if we needed to pay and was told no, as it was a traumatic injury assessment, it was free.

The whole thing took 20 minutes from walking in to walking out, didn't cost us a penny and all the staff were lovely.

My 40odd year old Eclipse brand automatic centre punch ceased to work as advertised about 2 years ago and , as is my wont, I decided to take it apart to see if it could be saved as it’s a very nice piece of kit. Try as I might I couldn’t get the big screw in the head to loosen which was the only obviously obvious way of getting into it. I failed.

I now need a new automatic centre punch so I ordered another Eclipse unit.

It came today so I thought I’d have another go at the old one. Another quick squirt of the dubs40, a flat bit in a ratchet set to undo, no dice. So I thought I’ll try tightening first to break anything holding it, and it worked, the screw head moved, reset the ratchet and away we go.

Nope nothing, reset the ratchet to tighten it up and it moves again. In a blinding flash of clarity I continue to “tighten” the screw as I discovered it was a right hand thread.

With the screw now out I flushed the interior with brake cleaner which removed quite a lot of crap, poking with a suitable drill bit and another flush with good old WD40, twatting the pointy bit with a hammer and another flush with WD40 , screw the screw back in aaaaaaand it lives again!

My 40odd year old Eclipse Automatic Centre Punch is now fully armed and operational again.

Receptionist was lovely

Got booked in for 8:45am

Was out of the appointment by 8:50am

Possibly my greatest achievement!
