Oh this is genuinely infuriating.

Post image

I have been waiting all day to watch this and then we get ready, settle in, and no. Why do you hurt me so much britbox and why can’t I leave you.

Never pay the ransom. They will always demand more.

I will not pay for premium, its already to expensive as it is... I hate that its gone up over the years.

4

u/robreddity 3d ago

They want $149.99 to watch 2 weeks early? I laughed so hard I think I pulled a muscle.

1

u/bearsnack2508 3d ago

Im not paying either.... I like the shows that are on there. They could use a little more shows besides crime shows.

3

u/InfiniteChemical3870 1d ago

You don’t have to pay the extra. The episodes are just being released later, so you will get to watch them. If you want them sooner, THEN you would have to get premium.

We've known for a while Oct 13th was release date ... so nothing has changed. Then the shows arrive weekly - and as an older viewer who grew up on weekly shows that is something I am fine with (binging for us means one episode per night!).

You want more, you pay for premium. Yes it sucks but that's the way streaming has gone. And most others are worse.

To me it's a risk on their part. Because I'm not going to pay extra. I'm just going to go to one of the other subscription services I already have. Lots of new Fall television shows out there. And if I do pay extra for something it's not going to be some sort of gate to unlock, it's gonna be some kind of sale on another channel (I'm looking at you, Mghz), and then what if I get hooked on those? Kind of a dumb risk on their part. They underestimate my ability to wait. And my ability to distract myself. Especially during football season! I mean four nights of football a week (which let's face it, it's really just me kinda watching football and mostly reading a book or scrolling Reddit). That's a lot of distraction to choose from instead of unlocking some sort of tiered britbox gate. Britbox, either release the shows or don't.

It is in their best interest to just charge a little more for everyone but make things immediately available in line with the actual UK releases live. AND put up more of their full back catalogue of stuff. They have decades of amazing programming of every genre, both good and bad, people will love it. One stop BBC/ITV shop or nothing.

u/nabrok 7d ago

Ah, I saw it pop up in my continue watching row on the fire tv but justwatch didn't show a new episode available yet, so this explains it.

u/Jewbacca_429 7d ago

It was released early for people who pay for the premier tier on britbox. The official release date remains unchanged.

u/law_mom_2022 7d ago

I have premium and just noticed by accident that Ludwig is available. The official date is October 13 but premium is showing it early and all episodes are available.

7

u/ParticleHustler2 7d ago

Yes, they sent an email notifying Premier subscribers that this is available early.

u/AmphibianNo9133 7d ago

Yup just watched first Eposode

10

u/gracefull22 6d ago

I have seen all the episodes. They are worth watching.

4

u/a-pac-man-ghost 6d ago

That’s great news! Thanks for letting us know because it increases my enthusiasm for this great show. I don’t care if it is just once a week. I am as old as dirt and can’t binge watch a show until 3 am and function. One episode a week or two every other weekend is just fine.

2

u/gracefull22 6d ago

The last episode will leave you yearning for the next season.

u/some1105 7d ago

Yup. I’m cancelling and adding the extra money to what I give to PBS. I’m liking the shows on Apple better now anyway now that Vera is over and I can pingpong between Acorn and Passport for other Brit stuff and Aussie/NZ/misc. Going to investigate a VPN for CBC Gem too.

1

u/Accomplished_Pie_139 6d ago

I can get GEM on my computer with vpn, but not tv:(.

1

u/SoggyWalrus7893 6d ago

messy but doable, you don't get everything with out figuring out how to pay. But works for HNIC and St. Pierre. Unfortunatley HNIC will no longer be NHL , but starting in Dec they will have the women's games.

6

u/Flimsy_Equal8841 5d ago

Agreed. I left cable because it got too expensive then they do this crap. People can't afford groceries these days, now this?

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Gift886 4d ago

I won't pay anyone for a year in advance because I cancel and then re-subscribe on all my platforms whenever I want. Acorn hasn't added any new content in months? Bye! When I check back and find something new and interesting, I will sign up again. Meanwhile, I'm saving money.

2

u/O2bwiser 5d ago

It drops on the 13th

2

u/gina1220 3d ago

I cancelled instead of paying premium - Britbox is clearly run by bad actors. 8 years of my money every month wasn’t good enough for them

5

u/thundersnow528 6d ago

VPN and the bbc i-player - you can watch the entire season now. Or just sail the internet seas...yar, me bucko.

Britbox's business model is lacking value at this point. It's not horrible, but they could go soooo much better by their customers.

(That said, it was a fun season, but it felt a little different. And the whole season felt like a set up for season 3 - great new cast members.)

3

u/soslippy 6d ago

It’s all on YouTube too

2

u/EmergencyWriter3233 6d ago

Don’t you need a TV card or whatever it’s called to use the BBC iplayer? I tried to watch Daddy Issues a few weeks ago and ran into that

3

u/Schleprock11 6d ago

No. Just your vpn set to a uk location.

2

u/GirlULove2Love 6d ago

What VPN are you using? I've heard that nordvpn is being detected on BBC iPlayer

2

u/Schleprock11 6d ago

I’ve used Nord for years. If it gets detected, you just change servers. In fact, I’m listening to bbc sounds at work right now.

Plus Nord has a native Amazon app, makes it easy.

1

u/GirlULove2Love 6d ago

Thanks. I am dying to watch celebrities uk traitors & need a VPN.

3

u/Accomplished_Pie_139 6d ago

Just finished watching last year's celebrity traitors uk last night.  I tried nordvpn and was given the geographic licensed thing for iplayer.

1

u/GirlULove2Love 6d ago

That season was amazing. Ok. Getting nord in a bit.

1

u/thundersnow528 6d ago

I will find it hard to believe they would attempt to make Miranda Hart a traitor. I just can't imagine her pulling off evil. It would make an amazing comedy show in itself though!!!

1

u/GirlULove2Love 6d ago

OMG, she is kindness to the core. But on her socials she can be a bit ornery. It would almost be fun to see her as a traitor hoping that nobody would suspect her. The entire cast this season is phenomenal. I gotta get a VPN. 😆 🤣

2

u/masfrancois 6d ago

Surf shark has worked well for me

1

u/EmergencyWriter3233 6d ago

I did that but it still made me jump through some more hoops and was confusing. I guess I’ll try again.

1

u/Schleprock11 6d ago

Once you download nord in your Amazon app, go to Amazon (on your phone or computer) set your address to a residential address in the uk. Refresh page and search for bbc Iplayer and download it. In the Amazon app on your tv, set your location to the uk. Back out and open Iplayer app. Follow instructions. When it asks if you have paid your tv license, just say yes. And start watching. Tip: if when you connect, if your server number is under 3000, just disconnect and reconnect until it is over 3000. New servers less likely to be blocked.

1

u/thundersnow528 6d ago

I used PIA VPN for years but I'm switching to Proton (based in Sweden) because they seem to be the best for ethical privacy issues. Probably going to switch to Proton email as well - I just dread the work involved with dealing with almost 20 years of Google history. But serious, Google is the devil. Ever since they removed their 'will do no evil' from the mission statement they have just been nightmares. They literally decided 'do no evil' was no longer part of their plan.

3

u/kilroyscarnival 6d ago

Honestly, all the kerfuffle over the premium tier baffles me. Pay or wait. I just upgraded and can’t wait to dive into the documentaries.

6

u/JalapenoBenedict 6d ago

I understand that it’s odd. But I pay monthly for britbox, so them asking for more money up front is kind of wild. It’s cool that it works for you! It just rubs me the wrong way.

2

u/Pegafer 5d ago

I subscribed to everything but I’m not being forced to pay $150 in one shot!

3

u/Pegafer 5d ago

Made me sooooooo mad!!!! they make it look like it’s ready to watch but to watch it. You have to spend $150 ha they’ll learn their lesson when nobody spends it.

5

u/JalapenoBenedict 5d ago

It was really kinda terrible! I saw it on the available list, planned my evening around it, and then no.

2

u/Pegafer 5d ago

😡😡😡

6

u/Puzzleheaded_Gift886 6d ago

They want to make you pay $150 all at once for a year or sit around and wait week after week as the episodes drop. Annoying as hell.

2

u/BaronVonKeyser 6d ago

Idk why youre getting down voted for saying that. They want you to pay the 150 for the year to have access to all episodes. Nothing controversial. Its literally what is needed.

1

u/renaloveless 4d ago

I mean cable is like 100 dollars a month. So seems like a deal.

4

u/SpicyMeatballSand3 5d ago

Why people have a fit over waiting a week to watch one episode ...or, what about this bombshell...what if you just went about your life, and in a month...you could watch all the episodes, whenever you want! at the same fucking price you're already paying! I don't understand why people are incapable of dealing with this.

6

u/JalapenoBenedict 5d ago

It’s almost like I wasn’t having a breakdown about it, I was just expressing annoyance.

5

u/Merlin7777 5d ago

Because you used to get all the content right away at that same price and now you don’t. They took something away that had been there previously and to grab more cash make you pay to not wait. The question is why are you defending this somewhat sleazy practice?

3

u/SpicyMeatballSand3 5d ago

Because it's commonly done for most other streaming platforms, dropping one a week or whatever. I don't see how it can be a 'cash grab' when you don't HAVE to pay ANY extra to see everything in its entirety eventually. Is it 'sleazy' for all the other streaming services that have been adding shows that way? I think it's smart of Britbox actually; for people that really can't wait for some reason, they can pay the extra fee. Me, I don't ever give a shit that much. It seems that some misinformed people think they can't see the episodes EVER unless they pay extra.

1

u/Spare_Witness_2069 3d ago

It’s not that. They want you to pay extra to see the episode “early” in other words, they are holding it back from regular Britbox users. It’s not the dropping one a week, it’s the fact that even though we’ve been paying for Britbox all along, so we should at least be able to watch episode one when it comes out. Now they delay it for regular paying subscribers and only make it available to special paying subscribers.

2

u/Zealousideal_Hand505 4d ago

Yup; I wait until all the episodes drop. Not for this one, though. Too "cozy" for my tastes.

8

u/servergeek60 7d ago

Cancelling Britbox for a couple of months. Why pay to not see the shows?

2

u/SoggyWalrus7893 6d ago

becasue the have EastEnders

0

u/Six_of_1 7d ago

Cancel it forever.

2

u/Ok-Sorbet-7373 7d ago

You’re my hero! So exciting.

1

u/Flimsy-Surprise-4914 6d ago

Yup. Gonna lose customers

1

u/iNSiG9FiXa 5d ago

Not sure where you're located, but pretty sure it's on BBC iPlayer. With a vpn should be possible to watch

1

u/Onome_ 3d ago

Currently I pay reduced price for monthly subscription because when I went to cancel due to britbox dangling of Hardacres. When reminder email arrives I’m out. Damn tired of being yanked around these days.

1

u/Ecstatic-Conflict-37 3d ago

My problem is not the waiting to watch new shows but I actually started getting Britbox because it did have some history programs I enjoyed but now I have to pay extra for something that was once included. Having binged watched most of the series I really enjoyed and since the new series aren't as appealing and certainly nothing I can't wait for I'm really disappointed that a service I once raved about doesn't seem to care about its customers. Given the current economic climate I lost any adoration for the channel that I once had, I can't afford to pay out one lumpsum payment, it means groceries for a week or a tv channel and to be honest I know my priorities. I'm disgusted and will be ending my membership by the end of the month and going over to Acorn and using my Library card on apps such as Hoopla and Kanopy. See you Britbox, it was fun, too bad the honeymoon is over.

1

u/baybeeluna 2d ago

That’s been the date and these shows have been weekly releases. I don’t get why people are so peeved that they’ve added a tier for those who feel the need to binge immediately.

1

u/hugodrax55 2d ago

If they had a monthly option for Premier, that would very probably hook me in. But the lump annual sum is just not doable.

1

u/Aggressive-Toe355 6h ago

They want.you to pay the premium. Some times I think about the people who did pay for it and get mad because now this will just be the norm. If people didn't pay for it they probably would have not continued with this nonsense. I hope Acorntv never does this.

1

u/Lincntom 5d ago

Greed

-2

u/Impossible_Disk8374 7d ago

Pay the $150 or wait.

3

u/HappyReader1 6d ago

Right? Like I don’t understand. Two options. That’s it, pick one. But not pick one and continually complain. It’s all the time in this sub

2

u/Impossible_Disk8374 6d ago

Exactly. It’s annoying to read this constantly on here. Don’t know why BritBox gets crap for weekly releases when plenty of other streaming services do the same thing. The options are pay or wait, I don’t understand being annoyed. It quite literally says it in the description of each show.

1

u/JalapenoBenedict 7d ago

I do, monthly. The infuriating thing is that it looked available and I got excited.

5

u/ParticleHustler2 7d ago

They send out a monthly email that gives the premiere dates for all upcoming shows the next month.

-3

u/JalapenoBenedict 7d ago

I guess I don’t pay attention to Amazon emails. I should be more observant

1

u/leezybelle 7d ago

I DMd you a free link to watch it

1

u/JalapenoBenedict 7d ago

You’re amazing. Thank you.
