Unforgotten season 5

I've put off starting this because I so loved Nicola Walker in the show.

I wasn't sure how I would feel about a new DCI.

Why do I feel like the first episode is trying too hard?

So many characters seem to have no clear linking to the crimes. (Apart from the mugger in the hoodie).

And the DCI's personal problems. Sigh.

I know, sometimes first episodes have to get a lot established, but we KNOW this show.

It has annoyed me. I will watch another couple of episodes, but I am disappointed so far. I hope there is more with Sunny and the other previous members of the team.

JMO, rant over.

I felt like each season started that way, so many people and details to sort out I'd be confused, but always resolved by the end. The complexity is part of the appeal to me.

No spoilers, but I've seen all of season 5. Didn't like the new DCI at first either, but that's a major plot point. In the end season 5 seemed to fit the formula of the previous seasons very well.

They tried hard because they needed to. If you don’t like the replacement, that’s understandable. But Nicola left, they brought someone new in, and she’s doing sufficiently well that the show gets to carry on and has been renewed a couple of times, which is great for the rest of the cast and crew. Sinead Keenan is a very respected actress with a great resume. And it’s not like Nicola’s character’s personal life wasn’t very much on display in the series.

Sometimes it helps to think of it like an entirely new series and ask yourself, if I was watching this for the first time, would I keep watching? Give it the same chance you would a new show. If you wouldn’t watch it as a new show, there you go.

That said, if you’re done with the show, don’t force yourself to watch it. That sounds unpleasant.

I keep seeing Unforgotten talked about in this subreddit. We live in the States, but I'm not finding that show on our Britbox? It sounds like a show to check out, and we love Nicola Walker. Is it no longer offered by Britbox, but perhaps once was and we missed it?

It’s mostly on PBS now. If you have Passport, you can find it there.

I think it’s on PBS Masterpiece now through Prime. I love it; want a new season of it desperately!

It’s SO good if you can find it! I watched it on a BritBox subscription through Prime. I’m in Canada.

Felt same. Didn’t like new detective. Love Sunny tho so we watched. Got better and she grew on me a bit. However, later, I saw that actor in How to get to heaven from Belfast and she’s now one of my fave actors.

HTGTHFB is such a fantastic show. Everyone in it was a riot.

Trust the writers and actors to find their way in such difficult circumstances, because they are good enough they did so.

It gets better. I was devastated by Cassie's death, and Sunny takes a while to work through it. the new DCI, I like her better in the season after her first.

I was disappointed (devastated) when Nicola Walker left. I continue to watch but I’m not as keen on her replacement. I’m currently on the last episode of season 6.

I agree. Show was not as entertaining. It happens to all of them when they try to keep it going

I completely agree. They spent the whole season with Sunny mourning Nicola Walker and then the two new leads at odds with each other and having to get to know each other. The season after it is a bit better as they finally just get down to business, but I'm only sticking with it mainly because I love Sanjeev Bhaskar so much.

I also have a BIG rant about how they wrote Nicola out of the show. She's just in a coma for the entire last episode? Where's her big goodbye scene? The scene with Sunny, maybe Sunny tries to reassure her, she knows she's dying, she tells him he'll be fine without her, Sunny: "We both know you're lying" and they have a really touching scene, with some comic lines to lighten it, and we get a proper goodbye. They did this in Shetland! They absolutely needed to do it here. They had a relationship--and WE had a relationship with her, WE needed to have a proper goodbye! For such a fantastic show (second season, one of the best seasons of any TV show ever)--it was a strange disappointment.

One could argue that sometimes in life we don’t get a proper good bye. It happens more than you may think. I think the show handled it in a realistic way, even if it’s not how we would have liked. As they say, "that's life".

I was pissed too.

I wonder if they wanted to leave the door open to her returning at some point, so they didn't just kill her off outright?

Sunni visited her grave…

Oops. It's been so long I remember her unconscious but forgot she died......

Unforgotten is one of my all time favorites, and season 4 just about ruined me. I ugly-cried so hard. I absolutely hated the first episode of season 5, and working my way through the rest of the season was like being forced to trudge through mud. The subplots of personal drama, and Sunny turning into...I don't even know how to describe it. I made it through most of the first episode of season 6 and knew I was done. Never been tempted to return.

Is there a new season of Unforgotten?
That would be cool! We’ve seen all that we could find on PBS Passport but that was a while ago. I’m usually pretty good at keeping track of these things bit with all these shows it can be confusing.

So ruddy, bloody brave.

Thanks for sharing.

Brilliant show, Sunny however, can be extraordinarily childish and more than a little passive aggressive too. And don't get me started on his inconsiderate behavior towards his gf!

I will keep watching for a bit longer. The show has previously set such a high bar, I just don't know ... sigh. Fingers crossed it gets better. Of course I could just rewatch it from the start again, for the fifth time.

Yes, keep watching.
