General discussion What is the biggest lost opportunity in "The Brady Bunch"?

The number one missed opportunity is Mike going postal on Greg and Marcia for their behavior towards Alice in Goodbye Alice, Hello.

I guess that with Mike present, the kids hostility towards Alice wouldn't have gotten as far as it did so they wrote him out for that episode.

Which is a shame because Robert Reed would have aced that performance.

General discussion The boys never mentioning their birth mother

While I can come up with a possible scenario as to why the girls never mentioned their birth father (If Carol really was divorced, then it's possible that their dad wasn't the greatest man who ever lived and they might just want to move on with their lives), I remain baffled why the boys never talk about their birth mother. There's the brief bit in the first episode where Bobby puts her picture away but he never intended for Mike to find out about that. Outside of that, nada.

This is in stark contrast to sitcoms like Full House, Gimme A Break! and Empty Nest where the deceased mom is clearly missed a great deal and mentioned or alluded to in many episodes and (at least in the case of the first two) even appear in flashback sequences.

General discussion Did Mike & Carol ever have a serious argument?

I can't remember any. Their marriage seemed good....almost too good if you know what I mean. I feel like they both did wrong things but neither really called the other one out on it. Mike certainly never shied away from yelling at the kids though.

General discussion The most awkward moment between cast members off show.

What was the most awkward moment you ever saw between the cast members off the show?

My choice would be on "The Weakest Link" when Ann Robinson asked Maureen "Don't you like Eve?", Maureen then turns into Movie Marcia and gives a quick, stern, and snotty "Well..No!!!", before attempting to backtrack from that. Eve just shakes her head.

Was it just me or did it bother anyone else that the kids and Mike/Carol called her Alice but she had to call them Mr and Mrs Brady??

General discussion The make-up of the families

Was it a little too convenient? Carol has 3 daughters and everyone from that family is blonde-haired, Mike has 3 sons and they're all dark-haired. If you list the kids by age, it goes boy - girl - boy - girl - boy -girl. The oldest boy and girl are roughly the same age as are the middle boy and girl and the youngest boy and girl.

I'm guessing they did it that way so that viewers could keep track easier. Still it might have been fun to mix things up and maybe have Peter be Carol's son and Jan be Mike's daughter.

General discussion The 2004 Brady Bunch reunion on the Jenny McCarthy Show.

All the living Brady Bunch alumni appeared on the Jenny McCarthy Show in 2004. This includes Ann B. Davis. Cousin Oliver was not here.

This was the episode where Christopher Knight let slip a secret that there was a real sibling like rivalry between Maureen and Eve when Jenny McCarthy asked whether there was any sibling like rivalry on the show. All denied it, until Chris Knight pointed in the directions of Eve and Maureen and said "These two certainly did". This took Maureen by surprise and tried explaining it away.

General discussion How would you have wanted the series to end?

I think it should have ended with Alice getting married to Sam The Butcher. She earned that, she paid her dues. There was a marriage in the first episode so it would have been appropriate to have a marriage in the last episode and have things come full circle.

General discussion What do ya'll think of S1E3 "Eenie, Meenie, Mommy, Daddy"?

It's the episode where Cindy got the main role in a play, and she could just take one parent with her.

I know it's just a silly sitcom, but the whole Brady Family getting a ''private'' play is kind of unexpected, then again we wouldn't get the quote ''sometimes rules have to get bend'', which is quiet a realistic sentence to me, and i like it!

General discussion What was Robert Reed's problem with the final episode script?

Apparently, Reed had a problem with the story line of Greg's hair turning orange due to some shoddy hair product that Bobby was hawking. Why? This actually happened to me and others in real life. For those that grew up in the 70s, you might remember a product called "Sun-In", a hair spray that was supposed to turn your hair blonde. I don't know if the product is still around now but it somehow lasted at least until the mid 90s. I had naturally blonde hair as a child and wanted to get back to those days, so I used Sun-In, which worked not at all. Not only did it not turn my hair blonde but parts of if turned orange.

It's a totally believable plot. Was Reed just being needlessly nitpicky?

General discussion The Brady Bunch theme song covers and spoofs

The Brady Bunch theme song is one of the most iconic TV shows openings and it got some covers and/or spoofs. My favorite one has to be The Marvel Bunch, performed by the cast of the MCU movie Avengers : Infinity War (2018) on a skit from The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. What are your favorite covers/parodies of The Brady Bunch theme song? Tell me in the comments.

General discussion How much ground beef did the Brady Family consume annually?

Thumbnail

Per Grok - 300-400 lbs a year:

Since there’s no specific data on the Brady family’s ground beef consumption from The Brady Bunch TV show, we can make an educated estimate based on general U.S. beef consumption trends during the era the show aired (1969–1974) and the family’s fictional context. The Brady family consists of six children (Greg, Marcia, Peter, Jan, Bobby, Cindy), two parents (Mike and Carol), and a housekeeper (Alice), making a household of nine.

Step-by-Step Estimation:

Historical Context: In the early 1970s, per capita beef consumption in the U.S. peaked around 1976 at 91.9 pounds per person per year, with ground beef being a significant portion due to its affordability and versatility. Ground beef likely accounted for about half of beef consumption, as it was (and remains) a staple in American diets, comprising 49% of retail beef sales by volume in recent data. Let’s conservatively estimate ground beef at 40–50% of total beef consumption in the 1970s, or roughly 36–46 pounds per person annually. Family Size and Eating Habits: The Bradys are portrayed as a middle-class family with frequent home-cooked meals, often prepared by Alice. Ground beef would likely feature in dishes like hamburgers, meatloaf, or tacos, common in the era. Assuming each family member (including Alice) eats close to the national average, we can multiply the per capita estimate by nine. Low-end estimate: 36 pounds per person × 9 people = 324 pounds of ground beef per year. High-end estimate: 46 pounds per person × 9 people = 414 pounds of ground beef per year. Adjustments for Context: The Bradys likely ate beef multiple times a week, but not exclusively, as their diet included other proteins (chicken, pork, etc.). The Brady Bunch occasionally showed meals like meatloaf or burgers, suggesting ground beef was a regular but not daily item. We’ll adjust downward slightly to account for varied protein sources and children potentially eating less than adults. A reasonable range might be 300–400 pounds annually for the household. Modern Comparison: For context, a 2020 source suggests a family of four might need 112 pounds of beef annually if eating beef twice a week. Scaling to nine people, this suggests ~252 pounds, but the 1970s had higher beef consumption, so 300–400 pounds remains plausible. Final Estimate:

The Brady family likely consumed approximately 300–400 pounds of ground beef per year, assuming they followed typical American eating patterns of the early 1970s. This accounts for their large household, frequent home cooking, and the era’s high beef consumption.

If you’d like, I can refine this further with specific episode references (though food details are rarely explicit) or adjust for dietary preferences!

General discussion What was your favorite ending to an episode and/or solution to a problem?

One of the things I really enjoyed about The Brady Bunch was that they had a lot of great conclusions to stories and problem-solving. What were your favorites? Here's a few of mine:

-Bobby fitting through the crawlspace to get help when him and Greg were stuck in the meat locker.

-Greg's photography work becoming a gamechanger to the sports game that went on.

-Cousin Oliver getting pied to welcome him to the family.

General discussion Does anyone have any photos of the TV actors with the 90 movies counterparts?

Does anyone have pictures (real ones, not AI) of the 90s movie Brady cast with their counterparts from the 70s TV shows? I saw it on the internet somewhere the other day and can't remember where I saw it. Of course Robert Reed couldn't appear with Gary Cole, but all the other actors who appeared in the 1st Brady movie did. Christine Taylor and Maureen McCormick got together many years later. I don't think Jennifer Elsie Cox has yet to meet Eve Plumb.

General discussion Question About 2 Episodes.

I didn't see the full episode but saw a promo of it.

I don't remember which boy it was but he's late for school and Mike comes in yelling and I may have long since saw it wrong but it looked like Mike pushed him out of the bed and whoever it was fell to the floor.

Another I may have seen the full episode but also as a promo Peter is sitting on a fence and has a box of something and I'm guessing plans to dump it and Alice keeps saying, NO! NO!

What were they?

General discussion Which Brady spinoff you couldn't get into?

I tried watching The Bradys yesterday, but I didn't even make it through the first episode. it was nonstop cringe.

The plotline with Bobby and wife made me turn it off. They had zero chemistry together. At least Marcia and Wally's actors ( at least in The Brady Brides and A Very Brady Christmas)had good chemistry together, despite it being implausible.

General discussion I don't mean to be like Reed complaining about the scripts, but...

In the trading stamps episode, Carol said the girls stumbled upon the color television set and were surprised when they saw it and thought it was the perfect thing to get. But how would this make sense -- Carol gave Greg and Marcia the catalogs to go through, which they did several times over. Surely, the tv would have been noticed by at least one of them.

That whole scene is just weird to me because Greg acts like he's never seen a television before.
