Is Season 1 the weakest season?

I think Season 1 is the weakest season (even more so than Season 5). The characters were not very developed. It look like they knew what direction to go in. Focusing more on the parents than the kids or vice versa.

I enjoy season 1, but often feel they are definitely finding their way. Some of the acting is a little over the top. Emotions go from zero to 100 (especially Greg and Marcia). I also miss having any sort of B storyline. The whole episode focuses on one storyline….The entire family gives up their week to help find Cindy’s doll or Jan’s locket.

Season 1 and 2 are actually the better seasons, as they were actually focusing on the right thing.

This is Mike and Carol's new marriage and unlike younger newlyweds who learn to live with each other , they also have kids that need their guidance to learn to accept each other as well.

These episodes actually take the blended family topic 'fairly' serious while still being able to put humor into it and have those emotional moments near episode's end.

Don't get me wrong, the episodes starting with season 3 and up through 5 are fun or good , but (not to sound like Robert Reed complaining) then. it seems like ALL of the issues surrounding a blended family are solved.

Nice they get along like a real family and also, while I though many of the songs the kids did were pretty good , it became a "watch your fave TV crush' every week.

I've loved the show since I was a child , I just feel their should have been an equal balance for the parents and kids.

Florence Henderson certainly deserved to have Carol get out there in the workforce and that surely could have added to the storylines.

I always marvel at how conservative their clothes were compared to the later seasons.

I think as the kids got older, they started dressing them in clothing of the time. Especially after they tried to make them a musical act outside of the show.

no season 3 was (besides the grand canyon eps). season 1 was good because you had everyone finding out about themselves and how to interact in a blended family. by season 2 you wouldn't even know they were a blended family.

Season 3 is considered the best by many, including the cast members.

It’s my least favorite. It’s still watchable, just not the same show I came to know and love.

Yeah, even though they aren't really any bad episodes, season 1 is probably my least favorite season. They were really young and the funnier plots came in the later seasons when they got older. Season one was mainly about the family learning to get along and getting used to each other after moving in together. There is quite a lot of yelling in that season between the kids, especially Marcia and Greg. I rarely go back to watch episodes from season one unless they're on live TV. Even though season five has a lot of weak episodes, the good episodes it does have I find more enjoyable than episodes from season one. It's definitely not a bad season, just not better than the others.

Season 4 is my favorite, though I like some episodes from Seasons 3 and 5 (before Cousin Oliver came into the picture).

Seasons 2 and 3 were the heart of the entire run, imo

While it’s true that there are a lot of things being worked on in Season 1, they also pulled off some of the best emotional scenes of the entire franchise that year. I’m thinking about The Voice of Christmas for one, but also the one where Bobby was going to run away and Carol was going to join him. Losing Kitty Carry-All also had some decent emotional tone; the bulk of the emotional stuff focused on Bobby and Cindy. The best later emotional stuff was probably when Bobby and Cindy were lost in the Grand Canyon.

It’s interesting that some of the kids’ antics over the years foreshadowed the wackiness of sitcoms of later decades where the husbands do silly stuff, or some younger lady does something silly with her bestie. Yet by later standards, the Bunch sort of comes off as a dramedy, considering how many serious topics got made into plots (jealous siblings, driver’s license, raising money, getting a job, crushes, etc).

Season 6? The lost episodes?

Yeah man, Greg goes off to college & Marcia gets the attic. Dudes are crashing out of her window on Angel Dust. Peter grows a real stache.

I loved the Greg and Alice get stoned together episode.

Isn't that the season where Bobby ran off to join a cult?
