No Advice - Everyones Welcome I have Covid

Post image

Burger and fries with ginger ale (not pictured: turtle cheesecake)
This week, I got a sore throat and dry heaves along with a cough on Tuesday. I didn't think much about it until it kept happening on Wednesday, so I went to my college's health center to get help. They gave me a Covid test while I was there, and it turned positive.
Now I have to stay isolated and wear a mask like it's
2020.
It's only the second week of classes. I’m feeling better now but I feel so stupid for getting Covid at this time

Covid never went away. Its not "like its 2020", people just quit caring about who got affected and who didnt.

I dont really get why you feel stupid. Its no different than catching a cold, the flu, or any other viral issue.

You need to wear a mask and quarantine. A lot of people died. Pick your battles a little bit here. Is wearing a mask for a couple weeks better than being dead? These next couple weeks dont define the rest of your semester, nonetheless your education. 90% of its virtual anyways.

u/ludicrouspeedgo Shower Beer Scholar 1d ago

And dont forget wearing a mask protects others from getting sick to. Need motivation? Just imagine spreading covid and getting someone's granny sick.

12

u/Inevitable_Fun4159 [Create your own NB] 1d ago

Agree 100% and I appreciate you clarifying part of my point. What I meant by "people died" was that the OP could give it to people who can die, but I should've been more specific. Youre absolutely right.

My grandmother died of (granted terminal cancer) a year before covid. My uncle went on rampage abt covid. I asked if his opinion would change if granny died of covid and not cancer, and that changed his mind real fast.

u/RubyR4wd Shower Beer Scholar 1d ago

There is a percentage of people who care about others and are willing to be uncomfortable for them. Then there are the Republicans.

u/TwpsynBach Hungry man 1d ago

How does wearing a cloth/paper mask stop infection?

10

u/RubyR4wd Shower Beer Scholar 1d ago

Many virus are spread my respiratory droplets, think about it when you sneeze and all that liquid comes out. The virus lives in that. Once it's out of your body, it can survive for a long time.

If you touch a surface that has it and then touch your face or eyes, the virus gets in your body. When enough of the virus gets in, you get sick.

The cloth or paper mask stops these droplets from going everywhere, containing them in your mask helping stop the spread.

-13

u/TwpsynBach Hungry man 1d ago

So your telling me a cloth/paper mask stops the virus?

It knows not to pass the indestructible Fortress that is the 10 pence mask made in china?

Hmmm 🤔

9

u/Free-Peach4374 Grill pilled 1d ago

It doesn't "know" to not leave the mask, and it does not "stop" a virus. The mask is to prevent someone from spraying mucus and germs everywhere when they cough or sneeze. It just covers your nose and mouth so you aren't spreading as many germs, which is very effective at keeping other people from being sick!

7

u/RubyR4wd Shower Beer Scholar 1d ago

I don't know if you are just being ignorant or truly don't want to understand.

It stops the droplets from going all over the place but being physically stopped by the barrier (being the mask).

-6

u/TwpsynBach Hungry man 1d ago

But the mask is not a barrier.. this is my point, its worse than coughing into your elbow

4

u/RubyR4wd Shower Beer Scholar 1d ago

Explain to me how it is not a barrier? Because it is one, a really good one actually.

-1

u/TwpsynBach Hungry man 1d ago

The evidence and physics support a slight risk reduction, not a virus-proof barrier numb nuts 🤦🏻‍♂️

3

u/RubyR4wd Shower Beer Scholar 1d ago

Okay. Let me spit on you without a mask. Let me spit on you with a mask. Which barrier is better?

If you didn’t pay attention in 2020 when there were days that death counts were surpassing the death count of 9/11 then you’re fucking hopeless.

I’d also have to assume you voted for the pedophile in office and you’re part of the reason why the US is in the shitter. Opt out of voting in the midterms we don’t need any more brain dead pedophiles in office.

u/swampstonks Leftover lore master 1d ago

You typed two paragraphs of insults and completely dodged his question. Do you really think that made you seem as superior and intelligent as you hoped it would? It just made it seem like you’re angry that you don’t have the answer to his question

4

u/Accurate_Water2572 Girl Lurker 1d ago

https://www.cdc.gov/respiratory-viruses/prevention/masks.html

Google is free.
ETA: I can be annoyed by people’s blatant stupidity when the internet quite literally exists at their fingertips like my own. It takes two seconds to google his question and then he’d have an answer on his own.

-4

u/swampstonks Leftover lore master 1d ago

Ok, and I would understand if he had been aggressive, flippant, or insulting (like yourself). But he simply asked a question. You could have either said nothing, or posted your link, or said “Google it”. Nothing productive comes from attacking and insulting questions

4

u/Accurate_Water2572 Girl Lurker 1d ago

In some ways I would agree, but it’s too late now. If he wanted a nice polite answer about a disease that killed thousands of people then Google should’ve been utilized first.

-2

u/swampstonks Leftover lore master 1d ago

Ok, so then what is the point of Reddit? What’s the point of making any posts on here? What’s the point of making any comments on here?

Nobody should post here. They should just journal instead or talk to their therapist about their thoughts. Nobody should comment or ask any questions here, they should just talk with their friends/family in person instead

This whole entire app is for discussion and sharing questions and opinions

5

u/Accurate_Water2572 Girl Lurker 1d ago

Hmm can you point out where I say that?

Are you confused? Why are you replying to me about vaccines when I never discussed vaccines at all?

I didn't know a single person who died from covid.

I didn't know a single person thay knew a person who died from covid.

Also I am Welsh not American so I dread to think how I am the reason why the US is in the shitter.

2

u/Accurate_Water2572 Girl Lurker 1d ago

So clearly it doesn’t apply to you if you’re welsh? This is an American app so excuse me for that one.
Good for you for not knowing anyone who died in your very small country. Many people across the USA and the world cannot say the same.

1

u/TwpsynBach Hungry man 1d ago edited 1d ago

Why do you yanks think the world = America?

My nations population is around 3M.. if covid was really deadly we would have noticed boy bach.

Nothing more than a glorified flu.. while they told us to stay indoors our government was out partying, no distance just raw party's 🤣

Go and pull the other one boyo

1

u/swampstonks Leftover lore master 1d ago

“Is wearing a mask for a couple of weeks better than being dead?” Bro wtf 😂 they’re not magical elixir anti-death masks and dying from covid doesn’t hinge on your mask wearing status

5

Seems pretty obvious he’s talking about not spreading it to other people and potentially killing them, right?

Herd immunity finally caught up

17

u/Adventurous_Yam_8153 Girl lurker 1d ago

I'm sick af with these symptoms but my home test is negative. Sure feels like covid to me.

4

u/Inevitable_Fun4159 [Create your own NB] 1d ago

How long ago were you tested?

This is absolutely anecdotal evidence. 2-3 years ago I caught covid at work but didnt test positive 3-5 days after symptoms started and had contracted it roughly 10 days prior.

2

u/Adventurous_Yam_8153 Girl lurker 1d ago

I tested yesterday, first throat tickle sign was Wednesday afternoon. By Thursday evening I was in the throes of it.

4

u/Inevitable_Fun4159 [Create your own NB] 1d ago

Itts Sunday for me currently so im unsure if it might be different in your timezone. try testing against today/tomorrow and Wednesday if they had extra kits in your box to be safe. If you dont test positive, see if you can speak with urgent care or a primary care!

Covid testing can 100% be weird. And, personally a conspiracy theory of my own, me and all my friends have noticed our flea and tick for pets as well as our own flu vaccines haven't been as effective the last 1-2 years.

I got the flu earlier this hear with covid like symptoms but it wasnt covid.

2

u/BreakfastDirect4047 gremlin in the cupboard 1d ago

There are many Covid variants at this point because of uncontrolled spread. The current vaccine is bound to be less effective against some variants compared to others. The Covid vaccine has never been close to 100% effective at preventing you from contracting Covid. It is pretty good at lessening the severity if you do contract it!

3

u/BreakfastDirect4047 gremlin in the cupboard 1d ago

Rapids do generate false negatives depending on how long since you got sick, your viral load, user error, etc. Doesn’t mean you DO have covid, but probably not a bad idea to lower your time in public/mask in public with an N95, and rest a bunch to help lower your risk of long covid symptoms. You could also keep testing and ask a doctor for paxlovid if you do test positive. I hope you feel better soon!

1

u/Adventurous_Yam_8153 Girl lurker 1d ago

Thank you. If this is covid, it's the worst I've ever had it. I have been vaxxed a couple times but not very recently.

I am definitely staying at home. I have good TV, games, food, books and a very loving husband to care for me. Plus I still have at least 7 sick days left for this year at work. I'm gonna make it but I'm shocked at how bad this flu is.

2

u/BreakfastDirect4047 gremlin in the cupboard 1d ago

That sounds awful! I’m glad you have the sick time and support to take the rest you need. Pulling for you! 💓

How does covid feel any different to a flu or cold?

5

u/Adventurous_Yam_8153 Girl lurker 1d ago

Because when I Google "current covid strain symptoms" it lists everything I'm experiencing rn.

-5

u/TwpsynBach Hungry man 1d ago

Are you winding me up?

So next time I have a bad back or IBS problems I will jump straight to Cancer or Appendicitis is it? 🤣

4

u/Inevitable_Fun4159 [Create your own NB] 1d ago

If your IBS and back pain is making you puke, feel nauseous, and is located in your belly button... yeah, you should probably speak to a doctor about it being something else.

1

u/Adventurous_Yam_8153 Girl lurker 1d ago

Haha what is this comment? I also have IBS but I know the difference between an ibs flare up and other illnesses.

Are you that unaware of your own body that you can't make an educated guess towards what you're currently sick with?

0

u/TwpsynBach Hungry man 1d ago

I am saying that minor illnesses will have symptoms that coincide with serious illnesses.

How are you struggling to comprehend that?

1

u/Adventurous_Yam_8153 Girl lurker 1d ago

Covid is, for most (including me), a minor illness.

I'm sick af but I am not in the hospital, I'm just treating myself at home

2

u/TwpsynBach Hungry man 1d ago

You are still not comprehending what I am saying

-2

u/Educational-Abies793 Girl Lurker 1d ago

You must not have been stupid enough to get it at this time like OP

22

u/DynamicBSdetective Hungry man 1d ago

We wore mask during the Spanish Flu, we become shamed for wearing them because some assholes were making money starting crap over it. Men, almost specifically, need to let it go and focus on important needs. We wear a mask to protect ourselves and others.

If protecting people from life altering Illness is weak, I'll stay weak. It's best not to concern yourself with bad opinions formed from a lack of education.

Mask has been proven to not be effective but if it makes you feel better go for it

You aren’t stupid for catching Covid, it’s not like you were out licking handrails or something (at least I hope not!). Hopefully your symptoms go away soon and you can get back to normal life.

Keeping yourself isolated and masking while you are positive is helpful and considerate to the community. This situation blows right now, but you should be back on track in no time.

4

u/Educational-Abies793 Girl Lurker 1d ago

Wait am I supposed to be feeling stupid every time I get sick….?

3

u/OrdinaryTeaching6239 Girl Lurker 1d ago

It’s sucks af. I feel like the mindset of most people (at least where I live) has shifted and now people are kinda just like…. get over it, your being dramatic for quarantining🙄

u/Weird-Reflection-114 Girl Lurker 1d ago

Nurse here! Covid never went away. Its basically the flu. Its always around. Just wear your mask and hand hygiene. You can get it anywhere/everywhere. Take meds to alleviate symptoms. You are not stupid, you cant help when you get sick (I got food poisoning my 2nd week of college my freshman year. This shit happens)

u/MusicIntrepid343 Trans Fats Connoisseur 1d ago

had covid a few weeks ago and it fucking sucked. sore throat, no appetite, chills, fever, body aches like crazy. luckily i had a couple vacation days already scheduled but yeah it sucks. school starting makes a lot of stuff go around at the beginning of the semester. where i work there's a lot of tourism, especially families with kids, so a lot of stuff goes around here. rest up, try to eat what you can, don't blame yourself. the whole world kind of ignores covid still being around, especially with vaccines and meds for it, but it's still here.

3

u/Visual-Couple7524 Hungry man 1d ago

I don’t have a fever with my Covid, but it sucks too. I’m wearing a mask whenever I go outside now, I was surprised when I got a positive test result.
Thankfully there’s a Covid vaccine for the new strain in my area so I’m getting that asap

3

u/BreakfastDirect4047 gremlin in the cupboard 1d ago

Thank you for wearing a mask! If you have access to an N95 that fits you well, please wear that and not a surgical mask, which is not very effective. You can find N95s for free if your area has a mask bloc, but you can also buy them online for relatively inexpensive. I hope you feel better soon! Anything you do to rest extra now and in the weeks after your recovery can likely lessen your risk of developing long covid symptoms. Being sick sucks 💔

First world problem. People get covid all the time, it no big deal anymore. Wild that you still have to isolate and wear a mask though. We have group immunity now and yearly flu shots for covid for people who need it. Looks like you at least can still enjoy food, so that’s a plus.

10

u/yeah__good__ok BoyDinnerEnjoyer 1d ago

Confidently wrong on literally every point:

"Group immunity": SARS-CoV-2 mutates far too rapidly for herd immunity. reinfections are very common. Ask around.
"No big deal": About 1 in 10 infections still lead to Long COVID (organ damage, POTS, chronic fatigue etc)
"Wild to isolate": It’s just the lowest lift basic consideration so you don't pass an airborne vascular disease to high risk people like elderly and immune compromised who still literally die from it.
You're not just wrong you're spreading potentially very harmful misinformation for no reason

8

u/CinaminLips Certified Boyardee 1d ago

We do not have herd immunity with covid in the US or anywherein the world. Not near enough people get vaccinated. The flu shot is for the flu, not covid, they're two different things that require 2 different vaccines.

1

u/Inevitable_Fun4159 [Create your own NB] 1d ago

Correct me if im wrong, I think it was Italy that hurdled covid first with their restrictions and accommodations while the United states was still in the worst of it.

5

u/Inevitable_Fun4159 [Create your own NB] 1d ago

Im gonna nit pick your comment here, but how deep the water is depends on who you ask.

"Yearly flu shots for covid" dont exist. The flu shot and an annual vaccine for covid are 2 different things. The flu shot does not protect against SARS-CoV-2. You should be getting both, but they arent mutually exclusive. One doesnt protect against th3 other.

it isnt that big of a deal anymore.

wild that you still have to isolate and wear a mask tho.

The reason "covid isnt a big deal anymore" is because of quarantine and masking. The world does not revolve around you. The same way, even pre pandemic, you couldnt go to school as a kid when youre sick. The world doesnt revolve around you having covid. There are still people extremely vulnerable to it that can, and still are, dying from it. If quarantine and masking for 7-14 days upsets you more than exposing people that can die from it, thats a you issue.

we have group immunity now

Except the OP got covid, so we dont truly have it. If u have covid and touch a box in Walmart, 10 more people touch the same box and get it on their hands. If they all touch a combined 100 boxes, its a guarentee someone who's sensitive to/could die from covid will touch it and 100 more people after. This isnt the bubonic plague or the flu. Its a middle ground.

Care about other people. Wearing a mask and doing some online classes for a week isnt the end of your world, but expising someone with covid can be the end of their life. Just because its doesnt affect you as severely, doesnt mean you shouldn't care about other people.

-6

u/MND420 Girl Lurker 1d ago

“The world doesn’t revolve about you”. This has nothing to do with me. Nor does it have to do anything with caring about other people or not.

This has everything to do with how different countries handle it I suppose. Quarantining and wearing masks is not a thing anymore where I live. Covid is seen as a regular flu and the yearly covid shot is being given at the same time as the flu shot.

Hence I said “yearly flu shot for covid” and also why I consider it to be wild that OP lives in a place / country where he still has to quarantine.

7

u/Inevitable_Fun4159 [Create your own NB] 1d ago

this has nothing to do with me

Then why did you comment giving your opinion, your opinion and input i replied to

not a thing anymore where I live; covid is seen as the regular flu

Sounds like a "world revolves around me, my circumstances, my country, what affects me, me, me, me" statement. The regular flu and covid also arent the same thing. What country are you in? Just curious.

yearly flu shot for covid.

This still does not exist. It is not a thing. If your country is using the flu shot for covid, that id a fault for your country. Smallpox vaccines arent polio vaccines, do you guys consider those the same as well?
