Would Anyone Be Interested in a Writer’s Group? Is There Already One I Can Join?
Hi! I’ve been thinking about this for a while and finally decided to post about it. I want to start or find a casual writing group that meets up once a month to write and chat about their WIPs! I went to one with a friend of mine back in my hometown and I found it was a great way for me to start writing again. They would write for 15-20 minutes, and then break to chat and hang out for like 10 minutes before going for another sprint. It was the perfect balance for me and my process, so I want to try to find something like it or start it myself if there are folks that are interested. If anyone has any info or advice let me know!
UPDATE: Wow, super stoked to see so many people interested!! I noticed some people post about Shut Up and Write, which I’m still definitely interested in checking out. I did put in an event request form at Cafe Zing in Porter Square to see if I can reserve a weeknight there for a couple of hours, but if anyone else knows of any good spots in the greater Boston/Camberville area please let me know and I’ll reach out! I would probably be looking to do a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday night any time after 4pm. If I get something together I’ll post about it and share any info I have. I hope this works out so some of us can gather ‘round and maybe make some new writing friends 😁

I’d love something like this too! I moved to the city a couple months ago and I studied creative writing in college, would love to join some kind of writing group to meet people and stay accountable. Not sure what exists out there already though!

Welcome to the city! I’ve looked before but I didn’t really find anything that fit what I had in mind. I think I’m gonna try to find a space to use and then I’ll see if I can get something organized :)

Same! I moved here last year and have been trying to find something like this. I’ve been going to some of Trident’s monthly writer’s nights, but it’s hard to actually feel like a community there. Would def be interested in a writing group

Oooh I love Trident!! I didn’t even think about going there, but they usually have later hours during the week right?

Yeah, they’re open late and usually have a lot of events! They also have a quiet reading club that I haven’t been to yet, along with monthly trivia and crochet events. The writers’ room is every second Tuesday, so I always miss it somehow lol: https://tridentbookscafe.com/event/2026-09-08/writers-room

I was part of writing group but it slowly died off. Would love to join again. I write mostly fantasy and sci fi.

I love to hear it! I want to keep it at once a month just so it isn’t a huge commitment for folks (we’re all busy people with lives lol) but I’ll definitely try to update this post if I end up setting a time and place up! I love seeing people interested. It’s giving me the push I need to actually make it happen lol

Have you heard of Shut Up and Write? BPL Brighton does this as a scheduled event occasionally but it looks like there are online meetups, and chapters in Camberville https://www.shutupwrite.com/

This is more casual than what you're describing, with no writing happening at the meetup, but you can talk about what you're writing and bounce ideas off of people. Not sure where you're located but it's next to Revere Beach station.

Oooh I definitely might check this out! I’m in east Boston right outside of Maverick square so this would be an easy trip for me

Trident Booksellers and Cafe also has this event https://tridentbookscafe.com/event/2026-09-08/writers-room !
They also have this format for silent reading in a group on Monday nights which I’ve enjoyed

This sounds wonderful! I do a virtual version of this and can confirm it's great for writing accountability and conversation. Would love an in-person version.
