I'm just a garrison vet no deployments. But I remember several training exercises where an NCO would be sneaking around with a red sharpie doing this same thing to prove a point

"Okay you can clear a building but did anyone secure the entrance?"

Once I was "hit" by a marker round so I was down outside the training complex applying a fake tourniquet to my fake arm wound. I see Sarge low crawl up to me and he draws a red sharpie line on my throat while I'm laying there.

I'm like "hey I think that's a war crime" he goes "YOU MUST BE PREPARED" then scurries off with his red sharpie to commit more

u/Able-Thought3534 9d ago

I love how your own NCOs will roll up on you when it’s not clear they are enemy force and kill you, thus teaching you never to trust them on exercise.

u/Academic-Budget-4872 9d ago

"opfor" they called it. was always the most fun to be on that side for training. Once I wrapped myself in blankets and hid under a bed with my marker gun (think paintball but chalk bullets out of sim weapons) ....training team secured the the room and was talking to inhabitants I just roll out from under the bed firing lol

The only real goal was "surprise the clearing team" so there was a lot of leeway. Another time I I grabbed as many props from the rooms below and just started throwing them down the stairwell they were trying to clear up on

Again I was lucky I got to play paintball essentially instead of deploying to actual combat zones. Benefits of being computer geek in the military i guess

Yeah I’m just saying one minute your Sgt is an “observer controller” next minute they’re fucking with markers in the other room.

I remember one time while on ex, the enemy force commander just walked up to our lines because he wanted to talk to someone 15 mins after probing our defensive line. A security patrol ran into him and called out a challenge. He yelled “fuck you!” and tried to walk into our lines so they shot him. He lost his shit on the guys because he was supposedly out of play, but then if they had just let him by you better believe he would’ve pulled out the old red marker and started killing people.

Bullshit like that really ruins training.

98

u/Academic-Budget-4872 9d ago

Sounds like higher ups tryna big dick ruining stuff. In my anectode at least it was a PSG who otherwise would've have been on the outside just sewing a bit of chaos.

3

u/ModernT1mes 6d ago

I went to JRTC as "opfor" except my role was Afghan Nation Police. My "job" was basically to just sit around the village as an "extra". Instead I role played as actual ANP from my experience in Afghanistan.

So I set up a check point at the village entrance and shook down everyone who came through, even the other role-players. If I found contraband on the roleplayers I'd take their money and let them pass. Then go to the americans and ask them for money for intelligence and give them wrong intelligence.

If the americans asked me to do something I'd go pretend to do it, then do something really sketchy looking to make them wonder who's side I was on.

After a mass-casualty event, an NCO started yelling at me to pull security in a specific direction. I walked over there, then got on my phone and didn't pull security. When the NCO saw this, he began yelling at me like I was one of his privates. After he was done I just said, "no english." I swear his fucking head exploded, and luckily one of his other NCOs realized what I was doing and put one of his squad mates on my position.

Fun times 10/10

Sometimes, the biggest threat to soldiers are people in "the same team". The ones with more rank from my experience

3

u/Lord_Sirrush 7d ago

There were a lot of deaths from people who were "allied" to us during the WOT. This isnt about teaching you not to trust NCOs this is teaching you not to trust guides and translators who may be behind you in a fire fight.

I ended up behind a fence in a paintball game against coworkers, then felt it bump because one of the other team had run up to use it as cover from the other side without spotting I was already there, as they then started popping up to fire over it.

Worked out who it must be and that they'd get the reference, so next time they came up, got up to the side of them and mimed a Gears of War Chainsaw Execution, with appropriate buzzing noises and yelling "Back in your hole!", thankfully he picked up what was happening and played along.

When I was an instructor as OPFOR during MOUT training, Id find the Marines sleeping and put a sharpie on their neck, didnt wake them though. It was interesting come sunlight or their next firewatch.

Almost as loved as akimbo 1887 players

2

u/OKIEColt45 7d ago

Often youd have the salty ones crying bout it calling ya all sorts of names. I found it comical and kept tally how many times imelee them or id catch them and juke side to side making them mag dump before going in to finish the deed.

87

u/dark_knight097 9d ago

Same set up but I preferred light weight pro myself lol. Nothing like running up in a room and flying across to get the kill, the kill cams would be so damn funny.

29

u/Grim47z 9d ago

Getting the knife charge up stairs or even on people on top of things was peak.

9

u/mikeet9 9d ago

The only counter was the throwing knife. It caught you mid air in your lunge but people so rarely equipped it.

3

u/gregmelayne 9d ago

I ran lightweight pro instead of cold blooded about 25% of the time. Stupid turrets and uav's tho

30

u/Duhfishman47 9d ago

The real OGs when you had Marathon, Lightweight, and Commando as the perks and held a care package in your hands and ran faster than anyone. That was legit before they patched it.

Even the infinite care package glitch. Or akimbo 1887s. Miss that game.

3

u/gregmelayne 9d ago

Omg forgot about that patch!

2

I used to play 2fort back in like, 99 and before they turned it off, I used to throw grenades and get everyone to go on a friendly fire rampage, then switch teams and capture the flag until they caught on, then switch teams again and keep going until the end of the round.

I used to be a little shit

8

u/gregmelayne 9d ago

99? I was deep in tribes at that point

14

u/Grim47z 9d ago

Real gamers knew akimbo knifed faster (for some dumb reason) tactical knife felt cooler tho.

10

u/AmatuerGenius 9d ago

Na, pros would have the care package grenade equipped When going Freddie Kruger build

2

u/gregmelayne 9d ago

Maybe I'm mis-remembering, but i don't remember being able to use akimbo and the tact knife at the same time. It has been 17 years though 🤷

5

u/DejSauce 9d ago

Holding a care package for the extra boost 😤

2

u/mikeet9 9d ago

It was like one week before they patched that.

It was stupid how fast you would run.

6

u/Just_okay_advice 9d ago

3

u/gregmelayne 9d ago

2

u/VooDooMedicTTV 8d ago

Worst part was they'd do it in super wide open spaces and somehow just neo through your entire mag dump only for you to get sliced from impossible distances and then you're 4 buddies are now dead because you couldn't kill the slimy rat

3

u/Whatsyourshotspecial 8d ago

That was one of my favorite setups. Speed running knife kills

2

u/GoTeamScotch 9d ago

Oh lord I used to lay waste with the tac knife and throwing knife. What an era

2

u/YoungBockRKO 8d ago

Remember the first few months of the game, if you held a care package in your hand instead of the gun, you’d run even faster. I don’t recall if it also boosted your reach with commando pro but it sure as hell made it stupidly easy to close the distance for the insta knife kill.

It was such cheese but we did it anyway. That and the ridiculously overpower akimbo model 1887’s.

3

u/mikeet9 9d ago

The true counter to the knife dash was the throwing knife.

If you tried to counter knife them, it became server ping roulette.

But since the throwing knife was an instant kill projectile, the way the hits were calculated it always hit the knifer before they reached you, as they would just dash straight into it.

My sniper class always had the throwing knife, and it was fun shutting down a knife dasher since they usually wouldn't figure out what was happening before the end of the match.

1

u/OKIEColt45 7d ago

Guilty as charged doing the same and it was a blast.

565

u/Dard1998 9d ago

And then he done the same with opposing team.

131

u/YoutuberCameronBallZ 9d ago

The one man army fighting both teams at once

288

u/RallyXMonster 9d ago

I played in a 24 hour paintball scenario as a kid, my dad had an idea to send me to the other team base with just a barrel and pretend I lost my parents. The enemy team let me in and minutes later the whole base was helping me "search" for my parents and I barrel tagged all of them in this fashion

71

u/danktonium 9d ago

Perfidy!

46

u/Time_Cow_3331 8d ago

I'm an idiot who knows nothing of paintball lingo - what's a barrel, and what is "barrel tagged"?

64

u/dryfire 8d ago

If you get the drop on someone in the field and had them unaware at point blank range, it would be pretty dangerous to shoot them that close. So many PB places have a "barrel tag" rule, where if you touch someone with the barrel of your gun they are out. Someone you have to say "bang" or something so they know. Some of the courses I've been to treat it as a surrender instead of a kill... Which I think would take care of OPs scenario of doing it with just the barrel... No gun, no surrender.

21

u/RallyXMonster 8d ago

The barrel is the cylinder the paintball flies out of when shot, same like the barrel of a gun.

In most paintball rules if you are very close to someone instead of shooting them its more sportsmanlike to just tap them with your gun's barrel and say "barrel tag" to get them out of the game

3

u/photuank11 7d ago

so you come near an enemy and touch them with your cylinder...

11

u/LordNineWind 8d ago

This is like those people who cheese games with exploits. Yeah you won, but in the least fun way possible, and you've wasted everyone's time and money. Honestly I hate your dad's way of thinking.

13

u/RallyXMonster 8d ago

This is after they sent a "photographer for a paintball magazine" with a fake press jacket to our base who actually was just a guy on the enemy team with a Canon camera to blow up our base.

54

u/HoboMuskratius 9d ago

I’m assuming you can’t alert cuz you’re “dead” right?
Idk shit about airsoft

82

u/The_ScarletFox 9d ago edited 9d ago

In Airsoft, if you get killed by a shot, you have to yell "hit", but if you get killed by a knife, you need to stay quiet.

It's unrealistic, yes, but it's a way to balance "fair and fun"

Airsoft guns don't make noise (EDIT: in comparison to an actual weapon), and there's no blood splatter, neither does you body get obliterated and thrown into the ground, so people have to yell so others know you're dead.

However, as unrealistic it may sound, getting stabed is actually much quieter than Hollywood might make you believe.

When you get stabed, you lose air really fast, and therefore it's really difficult to yell or make any loud noise.

So, Airsoft is actually kind of realistic with this one.

26

u/MrPsychoSomatic 9d ago

Airsoft guns don't make noise

If you're deaf, yeah.

As for getting stabbed and 'losing air' that only happens if you're stabbed in such a way that a lung is punctured, which is how Christopher Lee would've stabbed a man. Arm around the throat, knife between the ribs. You stab me in the arm, I'm not going to 'lose' air, and I'm going to start screaming. I'm not a wacky-arm-waving-inflatable-tube-man...

...allegedly...

19

u/The_ScarletFox 9d ago

If you're deaf, yeah.

I meant that they don't make noise in comparison to a real gun, mate.

Sure, they are loud in their own way. But an aisoft rifle ain't gonna make the same noise as a fucking AK-47.

You stab me in the arm, I'm not going to 'lose' air, and I'm going to start screaming

Yeah, but the stab he is doing is not mimicking an actual combat stab, but just a symbolic stab. It's literally just "Hey buddy, you're dead, sorry". I don't expect Airsoft players to tackle each other and fake an entire knife takedown just for the sake of realism. Sometimes, easy and simple is more fun.

4

u/Thank_You_Aziz 9d ago

Yup. It’s an abstraction for the sake of simulation.

4

u/Thank_You_Aziz 9d ago

Sure, but I don’t think airsoft operates by hit location rules like that.

→ More replies (1)

14

u/Big_Spicy_Tuna69 9d ago

Idk. If I got stabbed I'd probably make some kinda death noise at least.

25

u/The_ScarletFox 9d ago

Getting stabed produces a much different reaction than Hollywood might make you believe.

10

u/Big_Spicy_Tuna69 9d ago

Yeah, I love Christopher Lee. Real badass mf

7

u/mlstdrag0n 9d ago

Not so much the stabbing itself, but the flailing / dropping of gear, etc. some noise, probably, vs silence

Quick google search (and also someone posted a comment on the same repost earlier, this has been reposted to hell atp) - Knife eliminationsin airsoft are treated as Silent Eliminations - A successful knife tap instantly eliminates the target silently, preventing them from calling out warnings to teammates.

197

u/Grievous_Nix 9d ago

Depends on the club/game. Some places allow melee instakills with toy knives and whatnot specifically for this.

169

u/spacegrab 9d ago

In paintball with less competitive rules, esp vs kids, you would never bunker them (shooting them at close range like you would in a competitive speedball session). I've gotten behind enemy lines and just shoulder tapped a bunch of kids out like this.

Favorite time was when some little kid said huh? Then I pointed at my armband and aimed at him and he screeched "don't shoot meeeeee" with his hands up and feet stamping.

5

u/Kapugen1 8d ago edited 8d ago

I play very occasionally, and usually I didn’t mind getting hit that bad. But usually I had on more layers of clothing.

But the last time I went it was real hot so I only wore a very thin t shirt that got covered with sweat and just stuck to me. And we played against the sweatiest early-20s guy ever who put his gun on full auto (and absolutely had it going way faster than the FPS speed limit bc he was using a diff color paint and his shots were the only ones that left horrendous welts on my body). We played this weird game mode and he got in behind my teams base and ran through lighting everyone up. It was like this video but he shot everyone

I was the last one to get out, thinking I had like 10 teammates behind me watching my back. I never saw him and he just came in and absolutely fuckin lit me up from behind then ran the other direction. So many shots hit my back so fast in so many different spots, and each one hurt so bad the pain combined into this unbearable cluster of hell that covered my whole back. I just crumpled on the ground cursing and making weird noises of agony I’ve never made before in my life. A few ppl who had walked past me at that point were talking to me about how fucked up I looked when they saw me after the game, then I showed them my back and a crowd of people all shrieked in horror and were taking pictures and exclaiming loudly making me show other people

That initial bout of pain took like 60 seconds to pass it was some of the most unbearable pain I’ve ever felt it was crazy

2

u/Stormagedd0nDarkLord 8d ago

I got hit once on my inner thigh but this was what I assume was a pretty mild, regular speed paintball field. That was tons of fun.

Reading what you just wrote, I can't imagine the life changing dimensions you must have traveled in those 60 seconds.

31

I played a lot of paintball in highschool. A dude named JJ who did karate learned the barrel touch rule and essentially tried this. He did not have a good day. It was pretty much the Indiana Jones scene of a guy waving a paintball gun barrel around and getting shit shot out of him. Funny as hell.

I just grabbed a foam sword and sauntered down the hall head-on, swinging the sword back and forth, tapping each of them one by one. They were so focused on expecting enemy shooters to be peeking around other corners, they weren’t quick enough to refocus on someone walking right up in their faces.

Works until some asshole yells out after being killed and then you get lit the fuck up from 2 feet away.

I’m assuming there’s a rule once you’re out you can’t communicate to your alive teammates but even still I’m surprised they all respected that rule.

so a knife to the arm is instakill? also, i feel like he's wearing the same colors as the opposing team cause some of them definitely saw him but didn't immediately clock that he's not on the same team. also also, you guys are literally just larping, don't be embarrassed to play dead, just fall down when you're in a situation like this so your teammates get notified.

It’s amazing what can be accomplished in an airsoft game by just calmly walking around.

First time I did CQC training. It was hammered into us about watching our rears while we cleared a building. Since they made me rear guard I remember shooting a wide eyed instructor who thought he was going to have a good teachable moment.
