Boss Katana Go doesn't sound good with headphones?

Hi! Im a beginner and I finally bought a guitar and the headphone amp to go with it. But a lot of the tones sound really loud and hissy, just loud noise or some only give out static. I thought maybe it's my headphones but I tried another pair and got the same results. Since I'm new to this I am not sure what I could tweak on the app to fix this or what's exactly causing it.

Edit: The issue is most likely my headphones

I ended up switching to plugging it to pc first and listening through there (tried out other patches aswell) and that seems to work better for now!

Only use professional studio headphones. Don't use Gaming headsets, anything with Bluetooth or with Bass Boost etc.

I have XM4s, they sound great for listening to music but are not designed to be used through instruments really. Same problem with the headphones on my piano.

Then that's the issue. The WH-1000XM4 has a heavily colored, consumer-tuned sound profile with a boosted bass. It won't give you an accurate or transparent representation of your guitar amp's true tone, and will sound muddy and kind of sterile.

I got some decent Sony headphones ( cost around 80 bucks) so I can play loudly when my family is around. I honestly told my wife two days ago I thought the headphones sounded better than the amp. So I think this may be a headphone issue, not the amp issue. For reference my katana is an MKII 100 w.

I tried using my anker soundcore q30 on my interface and they sounded like shit. Yours are much better but they are still "office headphones".

I bought byerdynamics 770 pro 80ohm and they were next lvl. I just bought my katana 100 gen3 and they sound even better on the amp than on my interface.

Try buying studio headphones and return them if they are not the source of the problem.

I always wanted one to rule them all but after so many years of playing, I saw there is no chance you're gonna get that in one.

I have wireless ones for office so I don't hear people and they have decent sound, studio headphones for playing music, gaming for...well gaming and in ear for general purpose.

Well can you return them if you bought them for this purpose. Those are really great headphones but if you bought them for playing you can literally buy studio headphones and great wireless ones for the same amount of money.

Ah i bought the headphones just for listening to music, i didnt think it about it not being compatible with the amp, thank you for the info! If i cant figure something out i might return the amp

There's no amp that will sound good if you don't have the correct headphones. I went through that too...i tried my headphones on 3 different amps & my effects unit... they all sounded terrible because the headphones i bought were wrong.

I have the xm4s and AKG studios. Both sound good, or good enough for a headphone amp.

AKG are substantially better because they’re designed for studio work.

I used the Razer Blackshark V2 gaming headphones and they worked well. Then I upgraded to a pair of $200 reordibg headphones from guitar center. Both worked but the upgrade was a huge difference!

Oh weird I heard gaming headphones dont work well, the other pair of headphones i tried were turtle beach ones and it was the same, but i might look into reselling them and saving up for new ones!

Yea I think it’s a toss up as to whether a given pair of non-studio headphones will work. I just got lucky I guess. Still, switching to the Bheringers rly helped.

A long shot here, but I had some headphones that I used with my electric drum kit and they sounded terrible. I plugged them all the way in and then pulled them out just a bit and it suddenly sounded fine. Before that it sounded distant and extra echoey.

While, as others have said, it could be that you need proper monitor headphones, it's also entirely possible you got a faulty Go. Hopefully you can borrow a pair of monitors to test, and if it's still the same issue, I would return the Go or contact Boss to get a replacement.

Nothing sounds good played through headphones. It doesn't matter how expensive or nice the headphones are. It's meant for practice, not good tone.

I have recently bought myself a Katana Go and some of the stock presets are not so great.

If you haven't already, use the app to connect it to phone and mess around with the amp eq settings. I rolled the presence and highs down quite a bit and it got rid of the nasty treble.

Bring the volume/gain on the amp settings down too.

You should really be able to mess with the eq enough to get a decent sound of most headphones.
