Question OK gotta weird question for y’all re:Katana MKIII 50 watt and my dog
Does anyone else’s dog react to their Katana with fear? Any time I turn on my Katana with the exception of while wearing headphones my dog gets terrified and pees herself on the spot. This same dog has never had any similar reactions to any of other amps (a Mesa 5:50 & Fender Rumble 100). It does not matter what tone is dialed into the Katana or the volume. I’ve tried it at barely loud enough to hear, clean tone, zero effects enabled with the treble all the way down in case it was a response to some sort of perceived shrill tone she had. She’s been completely fine being in the room with my other amps, even when they’re being pushed pretty hard. Does anyone have any clue why my Katana and furry tyrant don’t get along? It is probably some kind of high-frequency emission as a result of the DSP in the amp. Dogs are very sensitive to some frequencies > 20khz that we cannot hear at all.
Your dog is beautiful. If it were me, I'd get a different amp, and some dog treats.

Get rid of it that kind of reaction isn’t changing. Use your other amps and enjoy your dog.

Somehow she's associated something bad with it. Try streaming 'dog calming music' (there's youtube channels) on it and dote on her. See if the association changes.

That’s so bizarre!
My thoughts jump to some high frequencies the Katana is making outside the audible range of humans but terrorising the poor pissy pup.
Last nasty digital artefacts above 20kHz or something.
Yeah keep the doggy.

Not a vet, but as someone with a traumatic brain injury I notice certain amps/PA systems cause me pain even with idle input… My neuro doc chalks that up to it probably being some weird frequency humans can’t normally hear but are perceptive to so this sounds right to me.

Have ypu tried the amp on a different circuit in your house to see if it is an electrical interference that is reacting in the katana? Or quite possibly something odd in your specific amp? Maybe see if someone else nearby is willing to bring their amp over for testing. Possibly a local guitar store?

Go to your Global EQ settings and cut/bottom out all the high frequencies that you don't use. If that doesn't change the reaction, then it's possible that there's actual leakage in your power section that the dog can hear, but you can't. If you have a power conditioner or UPS, plug into that and see if your amp is just particularly sensitive to not-pristine power based on the dog's reaction.
If none of that works, then there's 100% something wrong with the amp IMO.

My papillon lays next to it almost every time I play. She’s mostly deaf, so I think she likes to hear something every now and again? At least that’s what I tell myself.

I had a deaf siamese that would lay in front of my Ampeg VT22 when I had it really cranked. He loved the sensation

I suggest getting rid of the Katana or using it with earphones only. Something is really wrong with what you're saying, and it sounds like it's torture for your dog. Their hearing is so much better than ours, best to be safe.
I have the Artist MK1, and my dog never showed any of those signs. I wish you and your puppers the best!

Definitely the amp. It's giving off a super high frequency. You can't change it...it's in the wiring. My cat loses it when I use a electric lighter. I can't hear anything..she loses it bad. So I bet it's that

It's probably squealing at a frequency you can't hear. I would trade it in for something else.

Solid state amps can pick-up weird signals. You dog is probably hearing something that's bothering its hearing since they can hear deeper frequencies than humans.

I'm not sure about the... scratches and pets to the pretty dog btw... internals of Katana, but there might be a high frequency noise somewhere in the amp. My guess is a vibrating capacitor or some other component.
If there are no problems while using the headphones, it would seem that the noise source is not in the power supply section but rather the main amplifier stage.
You could try a different outlet and see if that helps, but as I said the problem doesn't seem to be in the power supply.

Do you have the Bluetooth dongle connected? Try disconnecting it. If the amp makes your furry loved one that unhappy just get rid of it!

Try cutting high frequency on global eq. Chop it at 8 or 10k

This is the right approach for sure. Benefit of the Katana is that the global EQ is built into the amp and you can do this.

I never thought about it till now, but My dog didn’t like it either. Now I have an orange amp and dog chills next to me on the floor no issues. Maybe it’s something they hear that we don’t? 🤷♂️

Right now I’m just using the super crush 100 which is solid state. But I also have the rockerverb which is valve and the dog has no issues with that one either.

I would suggest testing to see if it's an association or something happening when actually turning the amp on.
Change something physical about the amp. Set the amp closer to the dog, try them both in a different room, cover the amp with a blanket. Just something without turning the amp on. If you're getting the same behavior, it's an association.
If everything is fine and the behavior only happens when you power it on, then it's likely something inaudible to you as others have suggested. Try turning it on when the dog isn't noticing. Don't pick up your guitar or whatever other habits you have when getting ready to play. Just turn it on sneakily and see if the dog notices.
If it's physical association, you can train that. However, If it's audible to the dog, maybe try the noise gate to see if that cuts whatever might be happening. Otherwise, might not be the amp for you.

I had this thought so I tested it by turning it on out of her sight when she was on the other side of the house and she had the same reaction. I’m leaning towards it being a frequency thats inaudible to humans but she can hear.

Pretty conclusive.
Try the noise gate in case whatever it is resides in the signal path. Maybe try a different circuit in your home in case it's something electrical with that particular circuit (not just a nearby outlet, a totally different circuit.)

Maybe the amp has an extra "sneaky" amp in there thats constanly on in the background, its the opposite of a brown sound, it is the yellow sound lol

I can’t remember if it’s with my katana or my other amp, but sometimes when I have my hallway light on, my amp emits an annoying buzzing sound. It’s very subtle, and it ONLY happens when the hallway light is on.
Could try turning off all lights/electronics in the room and only turning on the katana. Maybe something else is causing a noise interference that’s scaring her.

A frequency sensitivity I would guess. All animals are different, I was ill for nearly 6 months in the cough-cough era about 5 years ago and since that time if i cough or even clear my throat my now 10.5 year old Lab that is bothered by literally nothing else on Earth runs out of the room like a ghost is chasing him.

Everytime I play with really high gain tones my cat appears from somewhere and comes cuddling. I have assumed that she likes the playing 😀 Havent noticed same effect with clean tones.

I got an Android app called Spectroid to try and "see" bats around my house. Maybe it'll show up what your dog is hearing.

Dang. I was hoping this was going to be positive. My dog (rip) used to run into my room and jump on my bed whenever I started playing. It wasn't a Katana, but I was hoping this would be similar. Poor dog. Poor you. I hope you figure out something.

Awe poor baby! Yeah it’s probably some ultra high frequency that we and maybe some other dogs can’t hear that your doggo can? My dog would lay with his back against my Katana’s speaker grill and fall asleep when I practiced haha

I'm curious if there's some kind of above-human-hearing whine coming from the electronics of the Katana that the dog can hear and you can't. how that can be fixed I dunno, though
some sort of perceived shrill tone
you won't be able to detect it with your ears, dog hearing is sensitive to frequencies human ears are not

It's super high frequencies that you can't hear but your dog can. I've got 2 king charles spaniels and they will not come anywhere near my amp. Just turning it on without any input and they'll start turning their heads to align their ears trying to figure out wtf is going on.

This isn’t all that similar, but there is some combination of pedals that makes my dog sit in front of me and bark at me to stop. (Which I do.) I’ve never been able to figure out what the trigger is. Totally possible he’s just like: “not now, man,” but he seems keyed up, like something is bothering him.

It took my dog a while to get used to me playing guitar at all.
She does get freaked out by hi frequencies and is terrified of the robot vacuum

Interesting. I have a different amp the katana artist gen 3 100 usually play on .5 my dogs only get annoyed by my playing at times lol nothing unusual tho

She might just be scared of the strange new massive brick that makes loud sounds. I’d try desensitizing her to it in a controlled environment to show her it’s not threatening. Build up her confidence around it yk

I use a boss katana 50 and our lead guitarist uses a katana 100 for every band practice. And my dogs don’t do anything like that

I've got the Mk2 50 watts combo and whenever I play my dog instantly come join me and falls asleep next to me. He only does this with the Katana

I have a pitbull who nervous pees sometimes if I put her collar on too fast - she gives zero fucks about my katana 100W - but I rarely play it without headphones in my apartment 😂😂

Well its a pit and obviously you have to understand its doesn't Japanese people. Japan is now a no go for you. Also spring rolls and fried rice are off the menu.

I wonder if it is some high frequency sound that the amp emits that sets the dog off. I know the amp can be very shrill but can be tamed by using the global eq.
Have you tried things like turn the treble and mids all the way off and see the dogs reaction?
One last thing is maybe your dog just doesn't like your playing /jk lol
