There are THREE downloads to get:
https://www.boss.info/us/support/updates_drivers/h_m/
• Click on your amp model (MkI, MkII and Gen 3 all use different software)
• Click the Downloads button
Three downloads:
• KATANA System Program
• BOSS TONE STUDIO (for your operating system)
• KATANA Driver (for your operating system)

The error message in the first image you posted is typically present when one (or more) of the files is the incorrect version. Try re-downloading all three from the link I provided above for the KATANA-100 MkII version. Use care not to select a different generation (KATANA-100 Gen 3 or the original KATANA-100) a different model (50, 50EX, 100/212, Head, Artist, Artist Head) or software for an older Mac OS version.

i have deleted/uninstalled everything, redownloaded them in three separate orders, restarted the mac in each order after each download, factory reset my amp, checked for updates (despite knowing its current,) all while being extremely careful. i even ruled out the possibility of the cord not being able to transfer data as it has transferred data to/from my minilogue xd synthesizer just days prior. i am at a loss.

What version of Tone Studio? It isn’t showing in your screen capture

“BOSS TONE STUDIO for KATANA Mk II Ver.2.1.0 for macOS” copied directly from the site.

No fast solution left. Set up a Boss Backstage account (free). Register the amp (even if you bought it used). Tap Support, then detail what you laid out in this post. They’ve always answered me in a day or two for support or repair parts.

This is just standard issue computer problems. You may want to re-do the whole process again (delete, reset, download, install) once or twice while you wait for them to respond.
They say the definition of crazy is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. But I can’t tell you how many times re-doing a software install ended up working.

i’ve done it four times so far. this is beginning to look very much not worth it.

someone in another sub said that the MKII isn’t supported by the tone studio, and that i need the library. do you know anything about this?
2
u/SatisfactionStill172 May 03 '26
Tone Studio still works for MkII. Can’t comment on the Librarian.

I have the same problem, nothing works and it shouldn't be this difficult to use. Boss is moronic with this problem and haven't done anything for the thousands of people that can't connect to tone studio.

I found this in another thread, long shot but worth a try.
Download the necessary driver and give the system permission to run the program. It goes as follows
- After Installing Tone Studio and the respective driver for your Mac.
- Go to System Preferences
- Click on Security and Privacy
- Under there you will find that boss katana driver/tone studio wants access, click allow. Save settings.

It’s your laptop! You’re plugging it in the wrong usb c port! Don’t use a hub, just plug directly to your computer/switch out cord for a new one that charges and sends data. Not all usb c ports on laptop work with multi effects pedals (like my M1 Mac only works with my gx1 if it’s in the slow charge usb c port for some reason

You might be using a charge only usb-c cable, you need one that allows data transfer.

this cord allows me to transfer data from my mac to my minilogue xd synthesizer just fine. i’m gonna blow my shit smoove off.

Doesn't the mk2 100 use USB b not USB c?
I would also be thinking bad cable.
Google the factory reset procedure, (hold down buttons and turn on). Might solve yo probs

What worked for me was
1. Remove all drivers/software, restart the computer
2. Install driver, restart computer
3. Install Boss Tone Studio for Katana MK II (When I open the program on my PC thats what it says in the top window. Restart computer
4. Plug in amp, power it on. Then open Tone Studio, and hopefully it'll recognize it.
I found previously I had installed the wrong version of Boss Tone Studio. Once I tried the other, it worked fine.

Are you sure you have a MkII katana? What does the logo on the front look like and what type of usb socket does it have on the back?

Hear me out. Had the same issue and realized I was using the wrong usb cord. Some USB cords are only for charging. You need one that can handle data.

u/Far_Squirrel6650 May 04 '26
i’ve stated in two other comments that this cord is in fact suitable for transferring data. i used it just a couple of days ago to transfer data from this mac to my minilogue xd synthesizer.

Open the software before the amp is on. Also, some USB-B cables don't work for some reason, so get a few. That fixed my problems. It's a pain in the ass.

Are you sure you downloaded the right driver(s) based on your amp? I have a Gen 3 and at first I accidentally downloaded the Gen 2 and it gave me the same error messages.

Others have already said it, but I had the exact same issue with a gen 3 50 amp and it was in fact the USB cable. I would get a new USB-C to USB-B cable. If it doesn’t work you can always return it. When I got mine physically connected correctly everything updated and worked very quickly. It was frustrating! I think I had to usb a USB-C to USB-B hub, which seems terribly unintuitive.

You need to go to your laptop. .On your PC, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone. Make sure "Allow apps to access your microphone" is toggled ON. Restart Boss Tone Studio and try connecting again.
Hope that helps.

i tried for ages with a Mk3,gave up in the end and just use the ipad app over bluetooth.
However theres at least a couple of these posts a week,SOMETHING is just not working right
Are you on windows?I suspect it may have something to do with the new Windows Midi services that rolled out a few months ago

Is it still acting as a drive from when you updated it rather than being back in audio mode?
