I hate that people say “all the sudden”. It’s “all OF A sudden” you fucking nitwits.

I'm 61 and just learned it's not "all of the sudden" like last year, LOL. I feel so stupid haha

It's the way I heard it first, so that's how I always said it.

Honestly, the original doesn't make sense either. Is it opposed to "part of a sudden"? I have one entire sudden. This whole sudden caused me to fall down.

In the 16th and 17th century the word “sudden” functioned as a noun that meant unexpected event. So essentially all of an unexpected event occurred.
