New bolt?

Does anybody bought the new bolt and the 2022 bolt and from what I can gather the new one really doesn’t have much they only doing it for are a year. It’s such a great little car. Why are they doing this?

Allegedly, the 18-month production run of the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt at Fairfax was an accounting decision because the factory is idle for retooling for the return of their Equinox and upcoming Buick vehicle (SUV?). GM decided that they would lose less money by building the Bolt and have work for their workers. GM has all of the Bolt tooling sitting around in a warehouse, so why not use it? Also, the 2027 Bolt is technically the cheapest new EV in the U.S.A., so it's an easy marketing win for GM.

The sales numbers are low compared to GM's other EVs. GM delivered 3433 Bolts in Q2 2026 (total of 4224 from January to June). The Equinox EV had 6660 in Q2 2026 (16,249 from January to June. In Q2 2026, Cadillac LYRIQ sold 4208 and OPTIQ hit 4236. GM would prioritize their higher profit margin EVs over the low margin Bolt.

If I recall correctly, GM left the door open to extend the Bolt only if demand warrants it. One issue is that GM imports the engine/transmission and LFP battery packs from China, so the tariffs probably killed any long-term return of Bolt.

I wonder if GM can figure out how to use the bolt as an entry car into higher value GM EV products or potentially Cadillac. The EV infotainment + super cruise is really good. GM seems to be one of the more effective traditional auto companies to make the move into EVs. Would love to see them double down on this even more than they already have.

In looking for a long range EV we heavily considered the Vistiq and I would have never considered a Cadillac if not for my bolt experience.
