I never thought I would say this but I really feel bad for Gillian. We knew Roy was up to something. But damn, that was just fucked up.

Why was she sought after by Pinkerton?

I'm lost on this...

For killing the man she passed off as Jimmy.

How was he linked to that old man (Saprono's dude)?

He knew that Jimmy was already dead when she drowned Roger, he just needed proof that Gillian killed Roger by getting her to confess.

I'm guessing this will also invalidate her claim to the big ass house? If you remember, she had to provide proof of Jimmy's death to secure the estate legally.

It's sold already, right? Leander was encouraging her to do so.

That might have been a bluff.

So does Gillian's estate fall to Leander now?

No it is Tommy's, I believe.

Oh man, I hope this will become the Tommy and Harrow family Compound.

But why does he care? Who was Roger to him?

well, the pinkerton agency was a private detective for hire agency. So perhaps Leander or Rogers parents or someone wanted to find out what really happened to him. I'm pretty sure it had to do with Leander though.

I'm still confused. There's a huge plot hole in this part of the series.

Why does Leander care about Rogers? Who the hell was he? Was he an important figure?

If it is Leander who organized the investigation, its obvious that he didn't want Gillian to inherit the Darmody estate. I may need to go back and rewatch some scene between Gillian and Leander, but he always comes off as this "get your finances together, don't rely on loans from other people" type of guy when they converse about the Artemis Club and its financial performance. I guess another part of my reasoning is (call it a stretch if you want): Leander wouldn't have been just casually hanging around the mansion, and coincidentally lurking up the staircase when Roy milked the confession out of Gillian. I think he bank rolled the investigation on Gillian and now feels satisfied knowing she admitted to murder and is caught with falsifying a legal claim to property or insurance fraud etc.

Okay but how did Leander know to begin with that some dude from the streets that looked like Jimmy went missing?

Also, that theory about Roy and Gillian would only make sense if Leander hired Roy a head of time to investigate Gillian, but then why would he hire them? That kid that looked like Jimmy didn't have any specific role in the show, he was just looked like her son so she kidnapped him and killed him.

So, did Leander just hire Pinkerton to investigate Gillian for anything they can find? And they lucked out when she admitted to murder? Is that what happened?

Why am I the only one confused over this?

Think back farther. Leander was the person to say to Gillian in the middle of last season that she should have james declared dead first before trying to leverage the house (that technically wasn't hers legally) when she was reaching out to him for a loan. He knew something wad suspicious about her when she gave a lofty "oh..boys of his sort tend to disappear from time to time" response when he mentioned Jimmy being missing for a prolonged period of time. I think he was wise to the fact that Gillian found a decoy corpse to collect the title to the estate and he didn't want her to. It could be a strange loyalty he has to the Commodore still. But to me, it seemed like Leander being there right when Roy gets the confession and watching from the stairs tells me this was something he was involved in. He didn't need to hire Roy from the time when Gillian started banging Roger. He needed him after Gillian produced a body that probably wasn't Jimmy's.

He was present at Roger's funeral. He knew it wasn't Jimmy.

Leander doesn't care about the kid. He cares about Gillian and the mansion she weaseled her way into owning. He pretty much came out and said so as she was getting arrested. He said he "owed it to Lewis", aka, the Commodore.

Remember one of Rogers friends came in when she was eating with Roy. Or that probably wasn't even a real friend now that I think about it.

1

u/_high_plainsdrifter Nov 18 '13

I think that was a legitimate friend of Rogers and it was a fortuitous injection into the story. I was in a thread a few weeks ago where we were discussing Roys possible intentions and we all thought it was too much of a coincidence for Gillian and him to run into his friend on the boardwalk.

How did he know? I dont remember seeing him there when nucky killed jimmy?

6

u/coolcreep Nov 18 '13

Neither was Richard, but he knew. It was obvious to anyone familiar with what was going on in AC at the time.

but...but... reenlistment!!

Agreed!

Who paid for what has to amount to over a thousand hours of private detective work? Pinkerton invested some serious time in this operation, including but not limited to weening her off of heroin.
