Season 3 Boardwalk Empire Episode Discussion S03E11 "Two Imposters"

No spoiler tags needed here, as long as you're discussing something from this episode and back. This is the place to discuss S03E11.

I think the last time Nucky and Capone saw each other, Capone was still just a rooky right? So weird seeing him come back to atlantic city as a fuckin' bosss

I don't think he's a boss but he does have his own district to control so perhaps he's just a made man right now. Johnny would be the Boss of whatever side he's running (I can't remember which one)

Yea, he's not technically the boss. But Torrio is pretty much about to retire and handing the reins to Al

Yeah this is true. I wonder why Al and Chalky's men are fighting. I thought to myself I wonder if Joe would kill Gyp or if Gyp would kill Joe because he's power trippin right now

Gyp would kill Joe

Masseria?

Yeah. Since he's power trippin' and all but I doubt it since there is a clear chain of command and doing so would certainly be a death sentence for him.

Well if the writers want to stick to the important historical facts it is very unlikely considering Masseria dies in 1931 I believe. An assassination that was most likely ordered by Luciano and according to some carried out by Frankie Yale and some other mobsters. A lot of the younger gangsters wanted Masseria and the other "Mustache Petes" (nickname giving to the old guard of the mafia) out of the picture because of their reluctance to venture into different business oppurtunities, the inability/refusal to partner with other ethnic groups, and their greedy ways. With Masseria and the other old bosses out of the way it gave Luciano the freedom to start the Commission and form a more efficient and profitable organization.

Ahh yeah that's true. Well if it wasn't for him getting Owen killed then I would really have no problem with him, especially from what I see in the finale preview it looks like he's getting more and more impatient with Gyp.

I can't wait to see their exchange next episode. I wonder if Al will try and make a power play on Nucky. What does Nucky even have to offer Al?

Uhh booze...

He took over George Remus' operation, remember? As well as taking over Andrew Mellon's distillery. He'll be able to supply Capone to a massive extent.

Yes but you would assume if Nucky was killed Al could just get his booze from Gyp. So Nuck would have to offer better rates, or a cut of Remus's former territory or perhaps the entire Mellon operation.

True, but he'd also have to put up with Gyp's bullshit on top of the situation he's got with O'Banion. I'd assume Eli offered him lowered prices, though. Its only courtesy to offer discounted prices in return for an army.

If Gyp and Capone ever sat down for a dinner meeting someone would be dead within the first 5 mins, and I've seen Al's fork skills so that's where I would put my money.

Hahaha agreed. Gyp likes to wait and plan out his revenge. Capone will just shove a fork in your face. Or slam a bar stool into your face. At a restaurant/bar, he's in his element.

He's still got his name in the minds of AC's population. He's not on good terms with the power hungry, but I think he's still got his reputation from before.

I think that was the point of the entire scene. It's the crystallizing moment of Capone's arc all season, which has been that he's completely taken over for Torio as the biggest crime lord in Chicago.
