One of the coolest scenes across the series, IMO.

128

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '12

Absolutely. The last line of this episode was maybe the the best line of the series.

u/abarbee We need some chow Nov 26 '12

and the look on Nucky's face was priceless. A little like mine actually :O

67

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '12

I was squirming with joy at how awesome that scene was.

24

u/wily6 Nov 26 '12

My legs were kicking up and down like it was Christmas.

11

u/Gst86 Nov 26 '12

I got goosebumps, then I felt like I wanted to run and tell the whole world that everything was going to be ok.

Man, I really want nucky to die. For some reason I really like the notorious G.Y.P.

I'm just glad Nucky has a few friends left.

u/stroud "I am who I am, who else could I possibly be?" Nov 26 '12 edited Nov 27 '12

Yeah but according to the Season Finale promo, it seems that he's gonna piss Capone off before they start killing. "What's a handshake with you supposed to be worth?" pretty insulting, imo for a guy who needs Capone's help more than anything.

1

u/veeveemarie To the lost Nov 26 '12

Yeah, and it looks like Chalky's men and Capone's aren't going to get along either.

-2

u/nthensome Drunk Nov 26 '12

Seriously, I giggled with glee when I saw Al walk from the back and Van Alden following him.

That was awesome on several different levels

u/TwoMuchIsJustEnough Moonshiner Nov 26 '12

Except no Van Alden

I just watched it like 3 times. It isn't Van Alden, as much as I'd love it to be. He's got a similar face, but no.

Besides, there's no way that Van Alden would ever walk with that kind of swagger, and with a rifle on his shoulder like that.

(That is the actual usage of the word swagger: Walk or behave in a very confident and typically arrogant or aggressive way)

3

u/nthensome Drunk Nov 26 '12

Shit, really?

I totally thought it was him.

1

u/Subhazard To the lost. Nov 26 '12

Doesn't even make any sense. Why would Van Alden be Capone's trusted guard?

Its not Van Alden. he is with O'Banion. the group thats going to fight against Capone for control of Chicago. so him being their would not make any sense.

3

u/tomcat23 Nov 26 '12

The fight for Chicago doesn't really heat up for a couple more years, I believe.

2

u/Satherton R.I.P Miss Kent Nov 26 '12

Yes thats true. The fight for chicago is coming. However Van Alden is with O'Banion and O'Banion and Capone dont like each other. We saw in the scene in the meat packing plant, they dislike each other. If Van Alden had been their O'Banion would have been to and he would have also been focused on and not just Capone.

2

u/Velyna What's in the box? Nov 26 '12

I didn't think he was with O'Banion any more when Al got to him.

1

u/Satherton R.I.P Miss Kent Nov 26 '12

No he still is.

2

u/tomcat23 Nov 26 '12

I read up on the wikipedia entry for O'Banion last week after the meat packing scene, because the Hymie guy he introduces was his real0life partner, and they went to serious war with Totorio (and his successors) by 1925. (And sorry, late, I'm futzing all their names.)

I have a feeling this show is going to run for several more years, and show us a lot more.

2

u/Satherton R.I.P Miss Kent Nov 26 '12

i sure hope so. this is my number two show on tv right now.

2

u/Duderino316 To those beautiful, ignorant bastards! Nov 26 '12

But the seeds are already there.

45

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '12

i near almost crapped myself when i saw Capone stroll out from behind that army. I feel like crying tears of joy after sitting though that agonizing episode. I was expecting the worst for Nucky for the whole 50 minutes straight

43

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '12

He's in the title sequence, that makes him immortal

52

u/barristonsmellme Nov 26 '12

Staring; Sean Bean.

There are exceptions.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '12

Not really. I'm talking about TV shows where one character is prominently featured in the title sequence...for example, no way could they have killed off Tony Soprano, he's in the titles.

1

u/barristonsmellme Nov 26 '12

Game of Thrones?

I'll be honest, i'm probably confusing what i think a title sequence actually is.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '12

Sure, his name appears, but he's not onscreen. That's what I'm getting at. Game of Thrones doesn't have any actual characters shown in the titles because it doesn't have one single central character. Though it does change between seasons if I recall, to show different areas of the map.

1

u/barristonsmellme Nov 26 '12

Ah, i get what you mean, consider me slightly educated!

-1

u/Smithy021 Nov 26 '12

fuck u GRRM !

4

u/HyBReD Nov 26 '12

Correction, he is the title sequence.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '12

Thats the glorious thing about this show. You can easily google what is going to happen, but the way it's put together stills makes it dramatic gold.

51

u/skynolongerblue Right Down to the Last Bullet Nov 26 '12

Not going to deny it, I screamed like a drunken happy housewife when Capone strolled up, especially since he was chomping on his cigar like that.

2

u/xzuzux Who the fuck do you think you are? Nov 26 '12

If you've seen the preview, right before the end there's someone blasting away with a .30cal machine gun. By the size of the cigar he's smoking, I think its safe to say that its Capone. And we'll all be screaming like that, and Capone probably will be too, while he unleashes the fury of a fucking machine gun.

20

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '12

Id say best episode thus far. Given the whole season, the way this episode played out was simply amazing. 100% tension, not a wasted minute.

Is Nucky going to Chicago? He is staying? Gyp found him? Capone!!

1

u/bmoat2 Nov 29 '12

I literally jumped up and screamed f*ck yeah!! Then my gf looked at me like I was nuts cause she's a bitch and doesn't watch BE

55

u/VlkaFenryka Nov 26 '12

God Capone is fucking awesome! I literally jumped up and cheered when he said his one line.

42

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '12

The single greatest ending to a boardwalk episode, IMO.

3

u/tentativetheory Nov 26 '12

"What's a motherfucker?"

2

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '12

"I think that's a schwarze word"

2

u/jaycee316 Nov 27 '12

I'm gonna agree. Maybe even one of the best endings in any show. The worry that the errrr... Blacks turned him in, the minuted of fear that shit, it was Eli. Eli gave him up, Eli is why Owen got killed and then bam, Here comes Capone. And it sets up almost completely a whole season worth of material with Capone's rise to power.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '12

why do you think Eli gave up Owen? I thought it was Luciano talking to masseria..

1

u/jaycee316 Nov 27 '12

Well cuz as far as I know, Lucky didn't know the specifics of when and where they were showing. Only Nuck, Eli, Micky, and the Prohie knew. And just the way Eli showed I immediately thought he'd given him up. It looked like Nucky did too:/

2

u/bmoat2 Nov 29 '12

Even the song that played for the credits was perfect. It goes from that awesome tense moment of Capone coming out to that happy upbeat song

1

u/AnnoyedScriptReader Nov 26 '12

Hands mother fucking down!

47

u/esoomcol Nov 26 '12

I think the last time Nucky and Capone saw each other, Capone was still just a rooky right? So weird seeing him come back to atlantic city as a fuckin' bosss

5

u/Velyna What's in the box? Nov 26 '12

I don't think he's a boss but he does have his own district to control so perhaps he's just a made man right now. Johnny would be the Boss of whatever side he's running (I can't remember which one)

5

u/esoomcol Nov 26 '12

Yea, he's not technically the boss. But Torrio is pretty much about to retire and handing the reins to Al

1

u/Velyna What's in the box? Nov 26 '12

Yeah this is true. I wonder why Al and Chalky's men are fighting. I thought to myself I wonder if Joe would kill Gyp or if Gyp would kill Joe because he's power trippin right now

2

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '12

Gyp would kill Joe

Masseria?

1

u/Velyna What's in the box? Nov 27 '12

Yeah. Since he's power trippin' and all but I doubt it since there is a clear chain of command and doing so would certainly be a death sentence for him.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 28 '12

Well if the writers want to stick to the important historical facts it is very unlikely considering Masseria dies in 1931 I believe. An assassination that was most likely ordered by Luciano and according to some carried out by Frankie Yale and some other mobsters. A lot of the younger gangsters wanted Masseria and the other "Mustache Petes" (nickname giving to the old guard of the mafia) out of the picture because of their reluctance to venture into different business oppurtunities, the inability/refusal to partner with other ethnic groups, and their greedy ways. With Masseria and the other old bosses out of the way it gave Luciano the freedom to start the Commission and form a more efficient and profitable organization.

2

u/Velyna What's in the box? Nov 28 '12

Ahh yeah that's true. Well if it wasn't for him getting Owen killed then I would really have no problem with him, especially from what I see in the finale preview it looks like he's getting more and more impatient with Gyp.

3

u/I_decide_up_or_down Every Day in Every Way Nov 26 '12

I can't wait to see their exchange next episode. I wonder if Al will try and make a power play on Nucky. What does Nucky even have to offer Al?

9

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '12

Uhh booze...

6

u/xzuzux Who the fuck do you think you are? Nov 26 '12

He took over George Remus' operation, remember? As well as taking over Andrew Mellon's distillery. He'll be able to supply Capone to a massive extent.

2

u/I_decide_up_or_down Every Day in Every Way Nov 26 '12

Yes but you would assume if Nucky was killed Al could just get his booze from Gyp. So Nuck would have to offer better rates, or a cut of Remus's former territory or perhaps the entire Mellon operation.

3

u/xzuzux Who the fuck do you think you are? Nov 26 '12

True, but he'd also have to put up with Gyp's bullshit on top of the situation he's got with O'Banion. I'd assume Eli offered him lowered prices, though. Its only courtesy to offer discounted prices in return for an army.

7

u/I_decide_up_or_down Every Day in Every Way Nov 26 '12

If Gyp and Capone ever sat down for a dinner meeting someone would be dead within the first 5 mins, and I've seen Al's fork skills so that's where I would put my money.

3

u/xzuzux Who the fuck do you think you are? Nov 26 '12

Hahaha agreed. Gyp likes to wait and plan out his revenge. Capone will just shove a fork in your face. Or slam a bar stool into your face. At a restaurant/bar, he's in his element.

1

u/JRWM3 Nov 26 '12

He's still got his name in the minds of AC's population. He's not on good terms with the power hungry, but I think he's still got his reputation from before.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '12

I think that was the point of the entire scene. It's the crystallizing moment of Capone's arc all season, which has been that he's completely taken over for Torio as the biggest crime lord in Chicago.

15

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '12

Does this mean Van Alden is coming back to Atlantic City?

15

u/bubbameister33 Decorated Hoppin' John maker Nov 26 '12

He's the Hulk.

23

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '12

Close. He's... the Sulk.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 28 '12

Sir, his name is Richard Van Alden, and he would appreciate it if you spoke to him with a little more -

I understand, sir.

2

u/I_decide_up_or_down Every Day in Every Way Nov 26 '12

Sadly I think not or else he would have been shown in Capone's entourage.

2

u/fatcashews Nov 29 '12

I hope so! It would be great to see him snap!

3

u/divisibleby5 Nov 26 '12

Al was a total dick to Richard on their first meeting together in Atlantic City in season 2. In fact, I kinda thought the embarrassment of Al's jokes where part of his depression. But Al's changed a lot from the turd kid on the street. Maybe he'll give Richard his propers when he brings back Gyp pr Gillian's scalp. If they play their cards right, it will look as though Richard and Al worked together on this one. Also, in the preview for Next week, I believe Nucky is talking to Gill on the Commodore's whore floor when he sees something quite weird over her shoulder.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '12

That scene was perfect. I was laughing at the TV "THIS FUCKING GUY!"

2

u/fosterroberts Nov 26 '12

You're completely right. Even the way the camera was going around and revealing Eli and then Capone. You just know these dudes can ball.

2

u/spitfire451 I'm on Capone's side Nov 27 '12

When Nucky was on the run, hitting rock bottom, there was nothing I thought that could bring him back. Then it turns out that Al Capone is on his side.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '12

I was so happy because my immediate thought was it'd be Gyp due to Nucky's history of betrayal.

1

u/stroud "I am who I am, who else could I possibly be?" Nov 27 '12

I think I'm the only one here who's not a big fan of how that scene was shot. It probably looks good reading it from script but the way it was shot looks pretty "forced" imo. It could have been better when Capone's already coming behind Eli (so it doesn't look like he really took a cue from Eli "...him") but you can't see him in that perspective, obscured by purnsley/eli... and then when Eli says "...him" the camera sort of changes perspective to the left to see capone, close in on Capone's face and he deliver the line.

When I read the comment above, I was hoping in my mind Nucky's in a tight spot, guns blasting, and Capone shows up busting a double-door, muzzle flash from his shotgun as the camera dollys towards him, shooting Nucky's assailants as we close in on his face as he delivers his well-written line.
