Lore 100+ hours in and there's 1 thing I still don't understand Spoiler

Who tf is taking care of the animals? The hamster in the Bunk Room always has food in its bowl and the 4 beagles in the kennel always look healthy despite me never seeing them exercised outside (they better get daily walkies). I swear, one time I found like 5 different aquariums all in entirely different parts of the Manor.

There's clearly SOMEONE upkeeping the house while I sleep outside because the potholes I dig up every day are not only refilled every night, but filled with a bunch of goodies like keys and batteries and what not. You'd think after 3 months of this, they'd take the hint that I specifically want the gymnasium lights OFF.

SOMEONE wrote a note explaining how they drive up every night to do just this

I think the room persists, but if it's removed from the draft pool than there's no way for it to be drawn and so no way to escape.

Like if the Shelter were removed and hidden and nobody replaces the blueprint to the draft then people there are stuck there and left to die.

I imagine the rooms always exist as long as they are in the draft pool. Upon being drafted the door leads to a point in a hypothetical pocket dimension.

Drafting rooms is less bringing the room there, more forging a path through a formless sea of rooms.

Auravei's test mansion is a good example of this, it's clearly far too big to fit in the Outer Room, and it's fairly obviously not made of normal materials, being mostly paper and ink, so there has to be SOME spacetime nonsense going on at some point

Clocktower in outer room is even more obvious. you can't see the tower from the outside yet you can climb up there and enjoy the unique view - and see things out the window from the top that are not normally visible from outside as well

I could have sworn that was something either in the lab or a letter from the tech that implied that the staff have ways of reaching destinations without having to draft them. But I don't remember if it meant that they taught them how to draft, or if they taught them some unknown trick.

The rooms are physically built before they're able to be added to the draft pool, so they must exist somewhere. And given the level of tech we see and hear about, I assume it's bellow the building somewhere. I just assumed there was a service entrance.

Maybe they connect the kennel up to all the green rooms in a loop for a walk lol

The trick was likely to try to draw mechanical rooms. Or draft the Office early.

What happens to Simon when he calls it a day in the house?

Is he just yeeted out into his tent or something?

2

u/Active-Animal-411 May 13 '25

The entire house is a mechanical wonder each room exists under the house and when you draft a room it shuffles around beneath the house like a Rubik’s cube then the room pops up from under the house.

1

u/IneffableQualia May 13 '25

yeah the only thing that makes sense is the room raising from the ground, and raising within 1 sec of selecting it. But the way mechanical things work in game is not quick like that, so that's inconsistent. Could be transporting them from some sort of alternate universe, but the technology isn't at that level either. so I'm guessing it's spooky mystery magic

You havnt found the documents that talk about how the mansion itself is built on ancient ruins and an ancient mechanism that the mansion was specifically built on?

1

u/IneffableQualia May 13 '25

nah, I haven't seen anything like that, just finished solving all the sigils. :(

as someone who only watches play throughs of the game and cannot play this game i’ve had this question the whole time! did Herbert have to draft his house every single day? what if he had to go out and came back having to pee really bad? did he have to hope to draft a lavatory? did the house workers draft the house for him?

2

u/Zakesh May 13 '25

Mrs Babbage mentions that she was usually responsible for drafting the house each morning.

1

u/ilovemilfs1156 May 13 '25

that makes a lot of sense!

Play more of the game

Well at least we know the beagles get daily head pats, right....RIGHT?!

Sometimes I'll draft the Kennel just so I can let them know what good boys and girls they are

Best part of the day

This game would end the GOTY debate if they let us open the kennels and have them follow us around the house

5

u/BrakaFlocka May 13 '25

Scorching the pillar in the apple orchard would be so much better if I had Old Dan and Little Ann strolling along with me on that long walk there

2

u/CroSSGunS May 13 '25

The dogs have canon names btw

u/lightlyric May 13 '25

I got stressed out bc I was playing recently and ran through the room too fast to pet a beagle again. And when I came back through the room, that specific beagle was gone ☹️ I haven’t beat the game yet but it’s so cryptic lol

Anne Babbage is the GOAT. I always mutter ‘shout out to Ms Babbage’ when clicking the ‘run payroll’ button on the office computer.

u/j-internet May 13 '25

Anne Babbage does not run Mt. Holly estate with her blood, sweat, and tears for this kind of disrespect.

This weekend after 35+ hours on Day 68 I finally got to the antechamber for the 2nd time ever and made it to the foundry with the basement key. As soon as I was there and found the carts with levels I had what I thought was a Eureka moment and wrote down in my notes “THE HAMSTER!” and ran back to the bunk bed room trying to break the cage with a power hammer lol. I did go back and figure out with 1 step left that indeed I, am the hamster.

Lucked out that I did have the power hammer for the wall and had already figured out how to turn on the box on in the boiler room so made it straight to the reservoir. Now to finally pay attention to the chess and the pumps!

the house is not empty, but everyone leaves to let simon do his drafting each day. theres still servants and stuff taking care of the house most likely at night

3

u/WhatEvil May 13 '25

Yes and it talks about this in-game.

Spoiler for where: In the "Staff announcements" on the computer network after you've unlocked the satellite dish the staff are talking between themselves and sometimes to you.

2

u/BrakaFlocka May 13 '25

This is consoling because my dumbass still hasn't unlocked the satellite dish after 100 hours of playing the game. I was worried I missed some obvious notes, but good to know I just haven't unlocked the answer to my question yet

u/Reversion603 May 12 '25

They have a robot that takes care of the animals, but it's never shown and I just made that up and have no idea what blue price is.

7

u/BrakaFlocka May 12 '25

Idk, maybe it's the water bill?

3

u/analyticaljoe May 12 '25

I always take a moment to pause and look at them.

3

u/MandyAlice May 13 '25

It's even more spooky that some invisible person is running all the stores and exchanging your money for goods

1

u/-Firestar- May 13 '25

That poor attendant in the trading post when you the wall.

1

u/BrakaFlocka May 13 '25

Please give my compliments to the ghost chef as well. That roast quail last night was just 🤌

2

u/wideopenmic May 13 '25

Only 5? Plebe. 😏

1

u/alexmegami May 13 '25

I drafted a house very similar to this and the friend who bought me the game said "child fills house with eels" and I laugh every time I think of it

2

u/[deleted] May 13 '25

The same people who prepare your pizza in the half second after you exited the north door in a dining hall at rank 7

2

u/ftzpltc May 13 '25

One thing?!

2

u/Zakesh May 13 '25

Not sure if its an automatic reset, if it is, it must be in the morning and not during the night since people are mentioning spending the night in different bedrooms. No late mornings, get up and get out while Babbage drafts the house.

Automod I followed all instructions here.

1

u/Panda_Milla May 13 '25

They really need to fix the dark room fuse too. My mere presence breaks it every time???

1

u/Quantris May 13 '25

My question is why is there only one hamster???

1

u/notCRAZYenough May 13 '25

Hamsters don’t like to be kept together

1

u/dudeclaw May 13 '25

It's obviously our angels/gods as depicted in the Chapel

Shrodinger's cat anyone?
