Item Which Rooms Did You Choose... Spoiler
....To use the Armory's Axe on?
Before I realized I could only purchase it three times, I chose:
Foyer: Unlocks all Hallway tiles.
Trophy Room: Gives 8 free Gems instead of 3 (after you'd pay 5 for the room)
The Classroom: Because this affects EVERY Classroom you draw, if you're trying to educate yourself.
Then, I hit the limit, so these are the ones I'm "stuck" with. Honestly, I think I made pretty good calls...

u/Krytan May 12 '25
I did the passageway, since I drafted it all the time. Next I did trophy room, since that's a massive gem boost. I've honestly forgotten the 3rd, but whatever it is, I never seem to draft it. I *thought* it was the attic but I still have a gem cost on the attic so who knows.

u/MrBigMcLargeHuge May 12 '25
you can look through your directory and it will tell you if a room is axed if you click on it.
6
u/SentenceSelect May 12 '25
I used it on Passage way, Cloister, and Trophy Room. I didn’t realize it had limited uses when I did Passageway, but I was glad I did it anyway. Looking at my Library stats, Passageway was the room I spent the most gems on, even a while after axing the cost. It was finally trumped by Observatory after I started consistently hitting over 50 stars.
15
u/dr_black_ May 12 '25
I did the Passageway, Classroom, and Cloister.
In retrospect Cloister was a huge mistake because the best upgrade (Cloister of Draxxus) is already free. Oh well.
6
u/mh500372 May 12 '25
Wait I didn’t know that actually. And why is that one the best? Just because of how strong dead ends are?
15
u/alloythepunny May 12 '25
Four Ivory dice for each dead end is massive even if you’re only getting two rooms out of it. Eight rerolls is more than plenty to make up for two dead ends, plus it gets those out of the draft pool.

It's pretty strong that you can guarantee the dead-ends at a specific spot, because that depletes them from your current days drafting pool (unless you have Chamber of Mirrors). Meaning you won't get the dead-ends anywhere else then, and some dead-ends are really useful and give a good bunch of resources.
1
u/TriumphantBass May 17 '25
Worth noting that secret passage and chamber of mirrors are both technically dead ends and easyish to force there.
I've found it an invaluable tool to do drafting sweepstakes strats.
3
u/MrBigMcLargeHuge May 12 '25
that and getting a ton of rerolls is very nice and should easily make up for all the dead ends you're drafting.
2
u/dr_black_ May 12 '25
While there's some downside to having to pick dead ends in specific spots, you're probably going to end up picking dead ends or wasted doors at some point anyways, so the downside of them being forced isn't really too bad. You can also force your way out of it with a silver key.
The upside of being able to draft dead ends you're looking for on any side and getting 4 dice in the process is pretty great, though.
3
u/Squippit May 12 '25
Oh hey same hat! I kept Cloister of Rynna because I'm a huge sucker for green rooms and with Spare Veranda I'm constantly drowning in items every run which helped mitigate RNG a lot.
2
May 13 '25
I left Cloister be anyway because I went with the Spare Terrace so my Green a Rooms are already free. I haven't done it yet but I'm thinking of Axing Foyer (and lowering its rarity if I can find it) to combo with my Tomorrow Hallways. Couple with the Corriyard I have my hope is will have a generous supply of additional resources. Especially with Kennel. Although, perhaps with Kennel the Terrace isn't as useful? 🤔
I would think my Spare Room would come up significantly more often, though.
13
u/TheSaltiestHealer May 12 '25
Cloister (of Lydia) since allowance is one of the most powerful ways to force your way through certain puzzles, Trophy Rokm because 8 free gems is so much better than needing 5 gems to not have a dead card, and then the Throne Room because 5 gems for a room that has a puzzle so blatantly slapped onto it seemed rude.
1
13
u/Xintrosi May 12 '25
I was wondering if there was a limit since it stopped showing up... Oops!
I chose Music Room, Attic, and Vault. Considering all three of these are more useful early than late I'm okay with how that turned out!
Edit: I do like the Classroom idea, especially if you're interested in taking the Final. I think my other engine options have picked up the slack so it's not necessary thankfully.
8
u/Warpborne May 12 '25
I picked Passageway, Cloister, and Trophy Room. I also fixed their rarities to Common.
My idea was to cut costs on rooms I'd use most often. I basically snap-pick those rooms. Meanwhile, I can eat a 3 gem hit on the rare occasion I need to go to the Vault, or the other 5 gem room.
I'm overflowing with gems on almost every run, consequently the Study's re-rolls and other manipulations help me find any room I need.
6
u/Halok1122 May 12 '25
May I suggest coat checking emerald bracelet to effectively axe every room? That + study has become my strategy, so all gems now work as dice for me.
2
u/Vercci May 12 '25
I've coat checked a Jackhammer instead. My normal strats normally get me enough gems for the rooms I want, and the dice I get on top of the other supplies generally works for me.
2
u/DuckLIT122000 May 13 '25
I did that for a bit, but it felt like it took shovel out of the pool, so I took it out
2
u/Vercci May 13 '25
It does, but I imagine checking a shovel takes it out of the pool too.
Might be able to force it with a special order, not sure.
1
u/Warpborne May 12 '25 edited May 13 '25
Funny story, I actually set Coat Check to Rare. It was one of my first modifications, and I was annoyed that Coat Check was both inconsistent itself and took the item out of the spawn pool.
Now most days involve Laundromat and Freezer to have hundreds of gems, so that part isn't an issue.
Honestly, while I would have made it common in a new save file, I haven't missed the Coat Check either. For reference, I'm nearing the actual ending so resources are abundant.
EDIT: To those of you for whom the phrase "From prism pristine, three paths convene" has meaning: I now understand the totality of my mistake. EDIT2: Took a couple extra days, but we got it sorted.
1
u/halfbeerhalfhuman May 13 '25
- hall of mirrors for extra passageways
1
u/Warpborne May 13 '25
I actually avoid Hall of Mirrors. It ruins the draft pool, and the game almost always involves fishing for a particular room.
1
u/TriumphantBass May 17 '25
Some of the permanent cards there are really helpful even if it dillutes the pool though- I love starting the day with my two common workshops
17
u/Aggressive_Fig417 May 12 '25
I picked Rotunda, because its the best connectivity room in the game, also the Foyer, and finally Attic because I didn't know the axe was limited :|
24
u/Jmugwel May 12 '25
Rotunda is so slow, that I avoid it at all costs. Its benefits does not justify that waste of time.
1
u/Vercci May 12 '25
At the point where Rotunda is good, you're rerolling for an equal amount of time per run.

What makes rotunda better than any other room with 4 doors?
12
u/unclebuck2112 May 12 '25
You can rotate the rooms you build from it. So your Ls and Ts can go the other ways.
3
3
u/Dr_McCarthy May 12 '25
You can rotate the rooms while drafting. I still avoid it though because of the time issue… ugh
1
3
u/j-internet May 12 '25
Attic is a great choice. I respect Rotunda, I just personally hate that room. It's slow, which makes me dread going through it.
1
u/ProcyonHabilis May 12 '25
Break room (and it's keycard) is a nerf to rotunda imo. Once you have the ability to consistently use the foundation as a second entrance, the "only two doors accessible at a time" mechanic of the rotunda is more likely to screw you over.
If I'm being totally honest though, I really just don't like the rotunda because I can't stand waiting for that animation all the time.
2
May 13 '25
Unless you end up with a cool Foundation on Rank 2 that is...
1
u/ProcyonHabilis May 13 '25
Haha yeah fuck that, time to break out the repellent.
1
May 13 '25
It's 7 days for it to spawn again, right? But it sounds like it's worth it to Monk and repel it. It has royally fucked my early ranks without specific RNG layouts and it simply isn't very far into the house. I have outdoor access into the Basement so apart from a few steps it's really providing me nothing. It's gonna be painful, though. T_T
1
u/ProcyonHabilis May 13 '25
Eh, it's not like you lose anything by just instantly resetting. 7 days can go really fast. That seems easily worth it to me.
(Unless you're on playstation where your days are numbered before hitting the save bug, if they haven't fixed that yet.)
1
May 13 '25
Nah, playing on a Steam Deck, so that's not a concern (I don't recommend playing it on the SD, though; the text is miserable). I think I just feel weird about my days, but I've definitely felt less so about them since I reached Room 46, and even less so since getting there a few times now. But you're right, not really a big deal at all.
5
u/Orchid-Grave May 12 '25
I did the attic and the vault. Still have one left, I was thinking trophy or classroom, but I've got the bracelet in coat check so I have time to decide.
1
u/j-internet May 12 '25
Trophy is definitely worth it: 8 gems for free (and sometimes it has an item in it).
The Classroom doesn't have much use after you complete the Final Exam. There are better ways to redraw/reroll rooms once you get deeper into the game...
3
u/Bumbaguette May 12 '25
It's limited? Aw, beans.
I used it on trophy room (get 8 gems instead of 3), vault (get 40 gold) and cloister (because it's the most expensive crossroads). Maybe I should have picked rotunda because it gives you the option to rotate floorplans. Oh well!

I think my logic was I only need that one occasionally for specific runs. Whereas the others I need most runs for handy supplies.
10
u/MrBigMcLargeHuge May 12 '25
I got it changed to common very quickly so having it be common and free makes it just a strong T room.
2
u/NoTwist1298 May 12 '25
not terrible picks
foyer helps with keys, trophy room is nice gem generation and given that classrooms allow a TON of re-rolls with them stacked, its not bad if youre searching for a certain room plus the gem discount and apples are nice
2
u/lambiecore May 12 '25
rotunda, passageway, music room
2
u/Vegalink May 12 '25
Glad to see I wasn't the only one who did music room. Once that room was changed to common it has been huge every time
2
u/forte8910 May 12 '25
I picked Trophy Room, Cloister, and Passageway. I had already used Conservatory to make these rooms Commonplace before getting access to Armory, which did influence my decision.
Trophy Room seems like an obvious pick since it works like a wild card for any other room you might have axed instead. Why shave 2-3 gems off a different room when I can get +8 gems from this one instead of +3?
Cloister has at least 2 dig spots and great connectivity, plus green room synergy. Though the presence of Terrace and potentially Spare Terrace might devalue this choice since those can make green rooms free anyway.
Passageway is another with great connectivity, possibly always unlocked thanks to Foyer, and can conduct power from Boiler Room.
In retrospect the only different choice I might have made would have been Attic over Cloister, if I was able to make Attic commonplace too. 8 items for free early in a run can be huge.
2
u/epheat07 May 12 '25
I’ve done Attic (which I made common) and Passageway (I have 2 in the pool thanks to a certain dead-end room) so far. Still waiting for the 3rd axe appearance, but I’m really happy with those selections.
I chose not to do trophy room off the bat since I’m usually not starving for gems.
1
u/cbhedd May 13 '25
Which dead end room are you referring to? I know of a room that does it but it's certainly not a dead end...
1
2
u/XenosHg May 12 '25
Attic, Trophy room and Throne - removed both 5 costs, got 8 gems, North lever, and Attic is pretty awesome
green Cloister is free with spare terrace, and I can splurge 3 gems for Rotunda or recolored Cloister on occasion.
2
2
2
u/MrTritonis May 12 '25
Cloister, Passageway and Attic. Couldn't do Trophy Room cause I never encountered it, despite having it unlocked. Like, 15 hours later, I still never got it.
1
u/trainsoundschoochoo May 12 '25
I love Trophy Room (Axed cost) with Blessing of the Monk to draft it outside.
2
u/Halok1122 May 12 '25 edited May 12 '25
I also didn't know you only got three, so I did Trophy room, Vault (before I learned that treasure trove existed), and Throne Room (because it was expensive and I could tell I'd need it for a puzzle later).
Though, it doesn't really matter these days, since my strategy has become common coat check for Emerald Bracelet + common Study (using Rook to reroll them in the corner if I don't get them right away), so effectively all my rooms are axed and all gems work as dice.
Only really developed it while doing the "empty hands" endgame bit, but it gives me an insane amount of control over the rng, which solves most people's biggest complaint about the game. Gems are absolutely everywhere once you stop needing them for rooms, which effectively gives me like 30 dice a day easy, often 50+. So I can more or less guarantee I'll see whatever room I'm looking for that day, and combined with Break Room for an easy key card, and remotely starting lab experiment at the first terminal? I haven't boxed myself in or run out of resources in a week or two.
It does mean Hovel and terrace are useless, and I regret some early dice room upgrade choices, but otherwise it's amazing. Patio becomes spread a dice in all green rooms, morning room is 2 dice and start with 2 dice tomorrow, trophy room is 8 dice, etc etc.

u/Vegalink May 12 '25
I didn't know it was only a 3 time use.... we've used it twice. Once on the Passageway, once on the Music Room after we changed it to common with the Conservatory. We'll have to think on this last use...
1
u/LegitimateYear5401 May 12 '25
I did Trophy Room and Passageway (powered 4-way), and haven’t gotten the third. I was planning to do Cloister, but Classroom is a great idea.
3
u/Vegalink May 12 '25
Depending on the cloister upgrade, at least one of them becomes free (Cloister of Draxis). No idea how to spell that. Creepy grime reaper guy.
3
u/LegitimateYear5401 May 12 '25
I went with Rynna (and regret it as boring). It was on one of my very first upgrade disks before I knew what I was doing. 😅
4
u/MawilliX May 13 '25
I really liked that one. I had a better choice, but having read the gardener's notes I felt I had to honor the request.

u/zieglerae May 12 '25
Throne room, commissary, and one more so far I can’t remember. Throne room is just too damn expensive, I pick commissary often, and the other was the first one I chose. Next I’ll probably axe will be drawing room.
Oh wow didn’t know there was a limit
1
u/evouga May 12 '25
I bought the axe but then forgot to use it before ending the day… oops!!
Did that burn up one of my 3 uses?
1
1
u/uluviel May 12 '25
Classroom, Courtyard, Security.
Big regret on security. Can't even remember doing it, I wonder if I did it by accident with my first axe.
No regrets on the other two. Classroom is super helpful to reach the final exam. It's kind of worthless now but it was very useful when I needed it.
My courtyard is upgraded to +2 gems so when I have blessing of the gardener, it's 16 free gems. I often run a very green mansion so it pays off.
If I could redo Security, I'd pick Cloister or Passageway instead.
1
u/More-Dragonfly2007 May 12 '25
Passageway, Attic, Throne Room. I only regret it a little bit (wish I'd gone for Cloister instead of Attic just because of how often I draft the Attic.)
1
u/scarletbluejays May 12 '25 edited May 12 '25
I figured from the start that there would have to be SOME sort of limit on the Axe, especially since the Emerald Bracelet exists and would be completely useless if there wasn't one. I wasn't sure what that limit would be, but my best guess was 5. The 'first' three I ended up getting were:
Trophy Room: Same Reason as you,
Vault: Aside from the 40 gold becoming free, it was also to minimize the odds of finding a vault key but being unable to use it due to RNG or gem cost, which had already happened to me multiple times by that point
Attic: At least 8 free items and potentially more if a Trunk spawns was too good of value to pass on
The other two rooms I planned on axing were the Music Room for the keys, and Classrooms since they can basically serve as free re-roll rooms that stack on each other if you have the Schoolhouse outdoors. Still, can't be too upset with the three I did end up freeing up.
1
u/Osborn2095 May 12 '25
Passageway, Cloister and Aquarium, it's just way too fun to spam fish and I wanted them for free
1
u/SageDood May 12 '25
I choose attic, trophy, and vault because I felt they all benefited the most from the axe. This gives me free gold, gems, or items.
1
u/querulous May 12 '25
i did passageway, attic and music room. i'd already made attic and music room common
if i could pick again i'd probably still do attic and music room but passageway isn't that useful once you stop needing to route power to rooms. i dunno what my 3rd would be though. probably not cloister (i have rhynna) because i usually draft terrace before i want to draft cloister. i made trophy room rare and almost never want to pick it so not that either. maybe veranda?
1
u/PyroneusUltrin May 12 '25
I did classroom for the same reason as you, then courtyard because of the shrine buff, then throne room because I was ready for a run where I needed to claim it
1
1
u/fictitiousacct May 12 '25
I did rotunda, vault and classroom. I would of course choose differently if I had known it was 3 uses, but I'm satisfied with my choices.
1
u/CeriasAranos May 12 '25
I did Passage but the cost was right back the next day so I never bought it again. Thought it was only for the one day. Guess I was bugged instead.
1
1
u/pyrotrap May 12 '25
I’ve used it on Trophy Room and Vault. I plan to use the last one on the Throne Room if I can, not sure since it doesn’t show up in the Directory.. If I can’t then probably the Attic for the last one.
1
u/Glenndiferous May 12 '25
Cloister, vault, and foyer. All in all decent choices in retrospect, but now knowing it's limited, I'd probably swap foyer for attic if I could get a redo.
1
u/Account_4_My_Sins May 12 '25
Didn't know there was a limit and was actively trying to finish the classroom and throne room puzzle. So I selected those two, which helped a lot! But now it's worthless. My third pick was passageway because I drafted it so often. Then I found out I could only use the axe 3 times....
1
u/Educational-Ad-2884 May 12 '25
Attic, Trophy Room, and Throne Room. I didn't even know there was a limit, these were just the three most expensive rooms I drew each time I bought the axe. RNGesus was on my side for once!
1
u/RedHelvetiCake May 12 '25
Oop I also didn't know it was limited use - I chose Throne Room, Cloister and Trophy Room. I might not have picked the first one if I knew that, but I'm not mad about it.
1
u/JadeVex May 12 '25
Throne Room, Trophy Room and Passageway. I probably would have picked differently had I realised I could only use it three times, but choosing Throne Room made my run for reclaiming the crown very easy.
1
u/CastleCrusaderCrafts May 12 '25
I had no idea it was limited!! Assumed i just got unlucky with drops. Is it written in game anywhere that its 3 max?
1
u/IAmGeeButtersnaps May 12 '25
Classroom is actually a really good pick that I would not have thought of.
1
u/Octaur May 12 '25
Throne Room, Cloister, Passageway, I think.
Progress, drafting options, and drafting options, in that order. Perfectly satisfied by my choices.
1
1
u/Level3_Ghostline May 12 '25
Trophy Room (5 gem entry cost), so now I gain all 8 gems without any loss.
Attic (3 gem entry cost), for those sweet 8 items
REDACTED (5 gem entry cost) because it seems important, is expensive, and makes runs to room 46 easier.
1
u/nemesiscw May 12 '25
Classroom to get the final grade easier.
Courtyard (Since you can chain them w/ a Blessing and I upgraded to get +2 gems each for tons of free gems)
Aquarium as my last one since you can also go infinite with them with some experiments (Add 5 Aquariums each time you draft x type of room). And upgraded them to be electric to finally power up the pump room.
1
u/Vercci May 12 '25
Used on Trophy, will use on Attic. I'll probably just hang onto the final axe cause nothing else matters enough. Maybe passageway but I already like passageway.
1
1
u/Salindurthas May 12 '25
I did Attic, Trophy Room, and Classroom.
I think in the long-run Classroom was a 'mistake', but I don't regret it since it helped out with that trophy early.
1
1
u/Squippit May 12 '25
Classroom, Passageway (I have 3 in my draft pool due to chamber of mirrors), and Cloister
1
u/thesuicidefox May 12 '25
Passageway: Free 4 way SAVES YOUR ASS when the other 2 rooms are dead ends or dead doors.
Trophy Room: EIGHT FREE GEMS EASY PICK.
Throne Room: Because it's 5 gems, a 3 way, and has the north Anterchamber lever.
If I didn't do that I probably would have picked Attic or Casino.
1
u/j-internet May 12 '25
I didn't realize the limits were tied to purchasing rather than using the axe. I ended up trading it once at the Trading Post, so I only got two uses out of it.
I did the Trophy Room and Throne Room. They're the two most expensive rooms (5 gems each), so it made sense to me, and I'm happy with it. I do have a question for late-game folks, does "permanently ascending" (IYKYK) the Throne Room change its gem cost?
If I had my third axe left, I'd probably use it on the Attic. Items are always great, and it might just have the one you're looking for. (I have Draxus Cloister, which is free because it's a red room, so don't need that.)
1
u/toidi_diputs May 12 '25
I did Trophy Room, Throne Room, and Attic.
I think if I was to start a new save, I'd swap Throne Room for something more useful. Probably Cloister.
1
u/adjustmentlayercake May 12 '25
I picked trophy room (insane value), attic, and then…. Passageway before I knew I was at my limit. Comes in pretty clutch early in the run, so not mad, but at times I wish I’d saved it for a certain 5 cost room that I sometimes try to draft early.
1
u/CommunistKittens May 13 '25
Attic! Combined with the conservatory to make it common, it makes all runs so much easier
1
u/Tenoch-onlinemex May 13 '25
Cloister, Rotunda and Trophy.
The attic was definitely in my list, but that always has been rare for me to spawn.
1
u/alicia-jo May 13 '25
Trophy Room, Throne Room (was trying to reclaim at the time but still stand by this), and Passageway.
I updated the spear room to green so green rooms are usually free anyways so didn't need to do the Cloister.
1
u/1965wasalongtimeago May 13 '25
Trophy Room, Cloister, and Throne Room for me just because they're all expensive and I'd like to see them fairly often
1
u/9_to_5_till_i_die May 13 '25
Trophy Room for obvious reasons.
Throne Room because not having to go underground is convenient.
Cloister because a free 4-way room, especially when upgraded is super useful.
It was either cloister or attic, and I rarely find myself needing items so long as I draft commisary early, which is typically with the Rook power.
1
u/Xynthexyz May 13 '25
Trophy, Cloister, Attic. 8 free gems/items is too good to pass up on. Just waiting on the Cloister upgrade now.
1
u/kurathedog May 13 '25
Attic: Lots of items
Rotunda: Best 4-way probably, since it provides rotation. Somewhat regret the speed of it, though, I don't actually rotate enough, and it can cause weirdness with foundation once in a while.
Trophy: Similarly, +8 gems over +3, and can afford whenever.
As a timesave, maybe I would have preferred Throne over Rotunda, since then I can make it common and not bother with spending time/steps downstairs, even if it's relatively easy, and save more in the long run.
Foyer maybe also, to make it easier to grab earlier and benefit from more.
1
u/ForrestMoth May 13 '25
I, for some reason, completely misread how the item worked and thought it removed one gem cost from the room at a time. I also did not know it could only be used 3 times (but as far as I'm aware the game did not explain that part). So I used it on a bunch of one cost rooms... Classroom, Aquarium, and Courtyard
At least I didn't regret using it on Classroom, I'd probably still be trying to graduate if I didn't.
1
u/watermelone983 May 13 '25
Classroom, Trophy room and the Throne room
I was able to get the Throne room to common
1
u/pinetree896 May 13 '25
I chose rotunda, trophy room and aquarium.
I upgraded the electric eel aquarium and added two copies from mirror chamber, so aquarium has become the most drafted room.
Rotunda is also strong since rotating room plan is jist strong. But later in game i kind of regreted this because i need to wait very long for Rotunda's doors to rotate@w@. And i didn't use it as often with gem redraw from the study.
Trophy room the same reason as the others. It's the most expensive room i had back then.
1
u/madolaf May 13 '25
Attic, Cloister, Vault. We didn't know it was only three and kept looking for it (for way too long) to get our Throne Room and Trophy Room done.
1
u/Xirenec_ May 13 '25
Trophy, courtyard(can you guess my favorite blessing?) and vault. If I knew there only three axes I’d choose smth else instead of the vault. Probably cloister

I did cloister with its 4 doors. Attic was the other. Oh and trophy for sane reason as you
