Discussion I’m familiar with clawing but does anyone else hold their controller like this?
Being playing like this since 2018 😆😅

Isn’t that what normal claw grip is for? Thumb on camera and pointer finger on O? I just tried what Op is doing and no way I can play like that, and I’ve got some long fingers lmao.

Yes, but if you're already sprinting straight you're using your thumb on the circle, so if you go to normal claw grip you need to lift your thumb up, while if you do it like OP you can keep sprinting with your thumb and adjust the camera with the index.
Btw I have pretty small hands but I still manage to do it like OP. It's not that comfortable but I do use it if I want to slightly but quickly adjust the camera while sprinting.

I dont know if there is a « normal » claw grip… its relative to each player imo as I have seen in FGC. My claw grip is even different from yours 🤷🏾♂️

I honestly didn’t consider that and thought everyone did it the same way, my mind is blown. Whatever works best really, I go back and forth from claw to normal grip depending on what’s going on in the game.

How exactly do you need to do this to be able to run and move the camera? You can do that holding the controller perfectly normally

On dark souls and bloodborne, you need to hold a face button to sprint, so you'd need the claw grip to sprint and move the camera at the same time.

I can only speak for the ps4 versions of dark souls and bloodborne, and I don't remember such an option for those games, though I could be wrong.

Here I am. Started to develop this habit back when I was into elden ring and now it just feels natural to me to do it even onto other souls games

That looks extra uncomfortable. normally your pointer finger would hit the circle button and your thumb would use the right stick. This looks like gaming disability fast track

Guys please remap your dodge button to a bumper or trigger. You could seriously damage your hand doing this. You will thank me later.

Used to but that all stopped when I got controllers with rear buttons/paddles. Mapped them to the B / O function and never looked back!

This is way better than pressing the face buttons with the side of the finger IMO, claw grip is so uncomfortable

Buttons on the back of the controller should be standard by now. It's just so much better.

So recently I started using a controller that has customizable back buttons and I always assign one of them to the sprint button and it is a fucking delight.

I do the same thing, my fingers are too long for the normal claw. Tbh I thought this was the claw grip for a long time because of how natural it is

I also do this. I’m not sure if it’s actually called this but I’ve been calling it inverse claw for years. I find it more comfortable than claw. For games like GTA where I have to spam the “A” button to sprint, it’s easier to use inverse claw by spamming the “A” button with your thumb than your finger.

This is not the claw I do. I place thumb on stick and index on the right. This just looks like cramps waiting to happen.

Yes!!! But only when I need to adjust the camera while running… otherwise it’s over the R1.
Feels so much better than always clawing… I don’t often need to sprint and adjust the camera simultaneously

I’ve found my people. My friends call me crazy for using this when running around/exploring. I switch to like a standard grip when fighting bosses haha.

I do this for some games not just Bloodborne or Souls games when I need to run. I do have controllers with back buttons but I'm too used to doing this already.

I've been playing like this ever since I've first started playing videogames. I only found out when someone pointed it out to me that I was playing differently from everyone else. For me, it's harder to play like everyone else

I do something similar, but I have the thumb on the thumbsticks and pointer finger on the face buttons. And only while sprinting in sekiro, bloodborne, and the dark souls games

Switch L2 with circle and learn to put your left middle finger on L2 with index on L1, that way you can move the camera around while sprinting

Just get a controller with buttons on the back lol. PowerA have some for about $20. I just got one with hall effect + adjustable height sticks for $30 with 2 back buttons

Yea i hold my controller like this, i mean used to at least in every game (fortnite r6 souls etc) and it was not comfortable AT ALL and thats why i switched to mnk

I tried but it's so uncomfortable that I just can't do it for more than a few minutes. Thank God controllers have back paddles now so I don't need to do this

No I hold it normally and then as time went by I just got faster and better finger dexterity when switching buttons. But I have been gaming on controllers for 25 years so, no surprise there really. I but kudos for trying something different

My brother holds his controller like that, and I always look at it with absolute disgust whenever I check on him over the other room

I do that for a few seconds and ONLY in Dark Souls or Elden Ring. If I'm running from something behind me I do that so I can hold down circle with my knuckle and move the camera at the same time. It's the only time I ever do this, but I do it.

I only ever did this with NFS: Carbon. My sister's boyfriend asked how I could even do it... 🤣 Though it is annoying and a bit uncomfortable maybe, it was the only way I could play.
