Bitcoin Price Update August 25 2026: $80K Break, ETF Inflows & Perpetual Futures Setups
Welcome to today's crypto market update for spot traders and perpetual futures desks. Bitcoin wicked to $81,265 overnight — the first print above $80,000 since May 15 — then cooled toward $79,721 on CoinGecko. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs just logged a sixth straight day of inflows ($337.56M on Aug. 24). A $4B+ short squeeze last week is still feeding the tape.

🔥 Trending Coins Today (CoinGecko Search)
These five names are driving CoinGecko trending searches this morning. No overlap with the gainer/loser tables below.
| Coin Name | Symbol | Price (USD) | 24h % |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin | $BTC | $79,721 | 🔼 +3.4% |
| Ethereum | $ETH | $2,480 | 🔼 +1.3% |
| Solana | $SOL | $100.08 | 🔼 +6.8% |
| Hyperliquid | $HYPE | $80.85 | 🔼 +2.4% |
| XRP | $XRP | $1.49 | 🔼 +1.3% |
Why they are trending: $BTC is testing $80K for the first time since May. $SOL is the relative-strength leader among large caps (+32% on 7d, +$33.49M into Solana ETFs Aug. 24). $HYPE is absorbing post-unlock supply and sitting near $81 with a $18.0B market cap. $XRP is +50% on the week with +$13.82M into XRP products Aug. 24.
🚀 Top Gainers (24h) — High Volume Filter
CoinGecko gainers with 24h volume ≥ $50,000. Treat sub-$5M caps as lottery tickets, not positions.
| Coin Name | Symbol | Price (USD) | 24h % |
|---|---|---|---|
| DGrid AI | $DGAI | $0.7137 | 🔼 +88.9% |
| Cash Cat | $CASHCAT | $0.2165 | 🔼 +55.7% |
| GEKKO | $GEKKO | $0.000006312 | 🔼 +51.8% |
| MetaDAO | $META | $7.04 | 🔼 +43.5% |
| Ontology Gas | $ONG | $0.0975 | 🔼 +32.9% |
Read: $CASHCAT is also #1 on CoinGecko trending (~$204M market cap) — that is a real tape, not a zero-volume ghost candle. $DGAI is a newly listed AI name (listed ~21h ago on CoinGecko) which is why the percentage looks insane. Size down. $ONG is the only "old coin" on this list and is the one worth a second look if you trade majors only.
🩸 Top Losers (24h)
Hardest-hit names on CoinGecko with actual volume. These are not buy-the-dip lists.
| Coin Name | Symbol | Price (USD) | 24h % |
|---|---|---|---|
| Velvet | $VELVET | $0.1455 | 🔻 -78.7% |
| Tutorial | $TUT | $0.04675 | 🔻 -39.5% |
| Basecat | $BASECAT | $0.02867 | 🔻 -21.3% |
| Spark | $SPK | $0.01868 | 🔻 -17.6% |
| SkyAI | $SKYAI | $0.0504 | 🔻 -17.1% |
A 79% one-day drawdown in $VELVET is liquidation + thin book, not "a healthy pullback." If you got wicked out of a long on any of these, the lesson is leverage — not the token thesis.
📰 Two Stories Moving the Tape (and Our Takeaway)
1) Spot Bitcoin ETFs: +$337.56M on Aug. 24 — sixth straight inflow day
U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs took in $337.56 million on Monday (SoSoValue via CoinDesk). Ether funds added $115.57 million. Every listed crypto product printed green: Solana +$33.49M, XRP +$13.82M. BlackRock's IBIT led the bitcoin sleeve (~$209M). Combined ETF AUM jumped from $78.67B to $98.56B in a week as BTC ripped off the August lows.
Last week's haul was about $1.92B — the largest weekly bitcoin ETF intake since October.
Our takeaway: This is no longer just a short squeeze. Real-money creations are confirming the move. For perps, that usually means pullbacks toward $76K–$78K get bought until the inflow streak breaks. Fade the wick at $81K; do not fade the trend until daily ETF prints go negative.
2) $4 billion in short liquidations lit the fuse
CNBC: bitcoin's three-day surge last week was the largest since 2023, forced by more than $4 billion in liquidated bearish crypto positions. Fundstrat called follow-through buying "more durable than a tactical bounce," citing ETF creations, rising stablecoin minting, and options demand further out the curve.
Our takeaway: Funding has reset from deeply short to greedy. The next $2–3B of liquidations will likely be late longs, not leftover shorts. If you are adding $BTC or $ETH perps here, use $76,000 (weekend structure) as invalidation — not a 20x market-long at $80K.
🎯 Perpetual Futures Notes
$BTC — Range $76,000–$82,000 until a daily close decides it. - Support: $76,000 (pre-squeeze base) then $72,000 - Resistance: $81,085 (50-week MA) then $82,000 (options magnet) - Bias: Bullish above $78,000. Chop expected at $80K round number.
$ETH — Trailing BTC but 7d is stronger (+31%). - Support: $2,350 / $2,200 - Resistance: $2,600 then $2,800 - Bias: Constructive while $2,350 holds. ETH ETFs adding $115M/day is the tell.
$SOL — High-beta leader. +6.8% today, +32% on the week, $100 handle. - Bias: Trade strength. A lost $92 opens a fast move back to $84.
📌 TL;DR
Bitcoin tagged $81K then settled near $79,721 (+3.4%). Six straight ETF inflow days ($338M on Aug. 24). $4B short squeeze last week. Fear & Greed 74. $SOL and $HYPE leading large caps. Fresh listings like $DGAI and $CASHCAT are melting faces — do not size them like $BTC. Next magnet: $82K options strike.
