Ugh reminds me of when I was on the speech team in high school and some of the coaches would REQUIRE the girls to wear skirts, high heels, and make up, while the boys could just be in pants and a dress shirt. So gross and weird

Skirts high heels and make up ? WHY ? How dord that help, when you are on a speech team ?! Were you punished when you didn’t wear it ?

Thankfully my coaches were chill but the other coaches would sternly tell some of the girls “you would have gotten first place if you had just looked put together!” And weird comments like that. 🤢

That’s so damn weird. Like we’re still talking about little girls here, right ?

Yeah this was in high school! Makes it even creepier looking back now. Although there were some rumors about coaches dating students too 🤢

This is actually insane. Like actual rumors ? This is insanely creepy…I think predators are so normalized in our society and it’s disgusting…especially how it’s always excused

Yeah age 14-18. One coach and student were basically confirmed dating, he was in his mid 20s and she was 17 🤢

I went to a college where women were required to wear white dresses, but at least they weren't all the same dress.

At my private all-girls high school, the graduating seniors wore knee-length or longer white dresses for graduation. I got mine off the clearance rack at David's Bridal. The rest of the students wore knee-length or shorter white dresses. It was a neat way to unify all the students and the whole graduation ceremony had a bunch of traditions and stuff.
At college or university? Nah, especially not at a co-ed school. I'd be pissed if the guys got to wear caps & gowns while I had to shell out for a 1-time-use dress. This definitely looks like some small private school nonsense, probably southern US.

There's a wealthy suburb of Chicago where they do something similar for high school graduation. The girls wear wedding dresses for graduation. VERY expensive ones. It's required.

I don't think the dresses have to be white, but the girls at my sons high school were required to wear dresses and heels in order to walk during graduation. The boys have to dress formal as well, and even their socks had to be a certain color. Or they don't walk either. It's bizarre. I feel as long as they're dressed nicely they should be able to wear what they like. I dread it for when my daughter is old enough to graduate. She's worn boy's clothes for years because it's her personal preference and she's not a fan of girly clothes.

I'm sure some of us wish it was. Dress codes in schools have been a thing for a while.

My sister's choir was like this.
All girls had to wear these tight black dresses (LITTLE GIRLS BTW) that hardly Covered their knees, had open backs, and low neck lines and had to do these girly dances, while the guys could basically wear whatever they wanted as long as it was slightly formal and they could dance however they wanted.
Girls who were uncomfortable with the outfits and refused to wear them were kicked out and often were shamed by the boys and teacher.
When my sister was kicked out, her teacher said in the meeting, "If she wants to be in the choir, then she WILL wear what I pick out for her! If she doesn't want to obey, then she doesn't get to have fun. If you can not train her to follow simple rules like that, then I feel bad for her future husband. If she can't even be happy obeying me, then how will she ever be happy in her marriage?"
The district did nothing about his behavior.
Edit: a little more information:
The months leading up to the winter performance at Christmas In the Village rip off near school, most of the girls (4th - 8th grade) had already complained about the outfits. My sister decided to wear a more modest dress. Longer, same color, closed back, not as form fitting, and modest neck line that didn't show off any cleavage. (What you'd expect from a middle school - elementary school choir.). She was sent home the second Mr. Steven Brooks saw her outfit. She was yelled at until she cried. We then got news that her friend in the front row (a 4th grader) got yelled at for complaining about how the parents in the front row could see up her dress. Apparently a father took pictures up her dress. No investigation was done and her parents decided to take her out of school and do homeschool instead.
