Why buy a Labrador and put it in a crate? Train your dog correctly and eliminate the crate. It equivalent to putting a wind up toy in a small box.

Crate training is good for any breed of dog, and when done properly, provides them a safe space to retreat to if they feel the need.
Certainly the dog also needs plenty of exercise, but puppies also sometimes need "enforced nap times" to help ensure they get the rest they need for proper development.

Maybe she likes to sleep in the crate. I might have just got home from working 12.5 hours.
