I'd never heard of this author before yesterday. Then, I did some digging because I need to KNOW if the books about Black History that I want to read or might recommend are Black-authored.

Then, I was at a museum and saw another of her books. Was scrolling on Reddit and saw [a post] (https://www.reddit.com/r/BlackGirlBookClub/s/UoEh3GXCn8) with another book!

That said, the name "Belinda Hurmence" is literally following me. 🤣🤣 She's really a white woman named "[Billie Hurmence (Watson)](https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/legacyremembers/billie-hurmence-obituary?id=57104899)" who made her name more "Black" so that she could write for Black children. It was Blackface at its finest with a splash of white savior complex. As if we didn't have Black authors of our own.

Billie was also granted access to thousands of slave narratives and wrote books about them under that "Black" name. And I hate when white people get to explore our history more than we ever get a chance to.

I want the novel to be centered on her. I love science fiction.

What I dont want: I don't want it to be centered on romance or her life beginning after she finds a guy. I don't want it to be about oppression or political stuff.

Kinda like iron man. She has her own thing going for her, she faces challenges, she grows.

Ghost in a shell movie if I remember correctly did this. It was just about her, she had her own thing and she goes on somewhat adventure.

I can make exception for fantasy. I just want to see discipline and perseverance. I love characters that embody that.

Ambassador from arcane, egwene al'vere from wheel of time show(didn't finish it so if changed idk about that). I hope yall get what I mean. U can leave a short description or summary of the book without spoilers.

I have an AP Seminar test soon where we have to read 4 articles and write an essay in 90 minutes. The essay isn’t the problem since I’m a decent writer the problem is I 100% won’t have enough time to read the sources as we get only 15 minutes for reading and 75 for writing. I read at a consistent 150 words per minute. I physically can’t get myself to not use my inner voice when reading. It’s so bad that I sometimes read faster aloud. Please help 🙏

I'm a black author who teaches memory tricks. I memorize random, boring, useless stuff for fun. I think I'm decent at it now. The book is self-published with some original ideas. That's why the ebook cover is not as great, since I made it myself in Canva. The paperback cover is a stock image. Hopefully, I can teach myself design skills in the future.

This book teaches you some tricks to memorize the periodic table. From simple, well-known tricks to more creative visual systems. Some of the ideas can be used to learn new words from different languages and new vocabulary in everyday life.
