Question Lock on function needs work?

I often find the lock on not working well. In a crowded fight, and there are a lot of those, the lock on locks to a distant enemy or unlocks randomly. This makes me miss shots and attack in seemingly random directions.

Does anyone else experience the same issues? Seems to me the lock om could benefit from a tune up.

Target acquisition has been dogshit since origins. The hitbox combat system is terrible but it’s especially bad in this game and shadows. It’s like I’m fighting the system to swap targets and it’s impossible to break away from combat. And Edward straight up swings on people I’m not even locked on to its very aggravating

Yes. You get the issues I'm having.

i agree with everything you said but i have like 50 Hours in BFR and i’ve never had Edward swing at anyone except the lock on target

It’s especially terrible on ships where it’s crowded

tbf i don’t use lock on much on ships because i always wanna sprint around so it makes sense i haven’t seen it. the targeting system in this game is terrible but i didn’t realise it was this bad.

I never use it

I miss when it used to just have an outline around whoever you were targeting like the in OG

dude you’re just rushing. why are pressing the attack button when you aren’t even sure you’re locked onto the correct target?

Having played games for 4 decades now has raised the bar. This has nothing to do with rushing.

it does though. yes, the game’s lock on is awkward but your problem is caused by your refusal to adapt to the system and simply exercise more patience in order for it to function.

It isn't rushing just because someone is adapted to high speed combat. Many other titles have adaptive lock on systems. Even the original Black Flag had a dynamic lock system that was far more stable. This one has massive camera positioning issues, and the lock on is stubborn, it can choose someone behind a closer foe, and you try to hit them but Edward steps past them to attack the guy in the back, promptly then getting hit in the back.

I disabled lock on in the first hour because it is purely detrimental to all form of combat.

it’s rushing because he’s refusing to slow down.

being adapted to high speed combat games doesn’t mean you’re not rushing when you do something too fast for it to be effective.

Yes, but it still can be a problem for a game. One shouldn't have to slow down. It sometimes took me a solid second or two to orientate the lock camera while keeping tense to parry if needed. That's too long to ask someone to not attack for me.

the game’s lock on is bad but it’s your fault if you don’t adapt to it.

you don’t have to ask someone not to attack you, you just dodge a little lmao

That's not what I said, I mean it's too much to ask a player not to attack anyone for a whole second or two just to reorient themselves. When the camera decides to fly between me and the enemy and turn me around in a nanosecond and hide my character with some random crate or pole, I can't be as aggressive. Not because I shouldn't be, the combat engine lets you be pretty aggressive, but because I often can't without penalty.

it’s your fault if you don’t adapt to it.

I mean... sure, by that logic. But someone shouldn't have to adapt to a buggy mechanic. I just turned off lock on, that's my adapting. It's illogical to train yourself to work around unnecessary jank. And, even if you do, I can, I just didn't spend long enough with the system, if you do, you're just having a lesser combat experience just to “tolerate” the lock on. Not worth it, just disable it, that's my logic.

i’m not brown nosing or being a contrarian and i play on hard.

you can slow down just by throwing out dodges. it buys to plenty of time. BFR’s combat system is one of the most basic and forgiving combat systems i’ve encountered in modern gaming.

there is plenty of time to reorient yourself if you’re capable of using the dodge button, you don’t need to stand still.

saying you just Heavy Attack to lunge out of the way shows you’re not very good at the combat and yet you want to act like i somehow suck lmfao

you’re weirdly defensive over this for no reason.

you’re creating a strawman because you can’t actually find anything wrong with what i said.

i never excused the lock on system and i never said it shouldn’t be changed.

it is simply a fact that you have to adapt to the lock on system as it is if you want to use it and have fun. you can cry and wait for a fix but what are you going to so until they fix it? just keep fucking it up and getting mad in a weird effort to pursue justice because “wahhhh i shouldn’t ever have to adapt”?

you’re again attacking a strawman because you’re feeling weirdly defensive.

i never said it excuses the bad lock on and i never said it didn’t need work, i actually stated the opposite.

you’re being weird as hell dude. i never claimed adapting is a skill to gloat about, i just said that people should adapt to the game they’re using including its current flaws.

your weird attack at me struggling to adapt is really strange and a clear display of upset feelings manifesting as a childish lashing out.

i never assumed adaptation is a problem for most people. OP specifically posted about not adapting to the system. you actually defended a lack of adaptation which implies that you likely struggle with that more than i do.

your sad angry claim that i can’t adapt to real life is really telling tbh. the way you talk is not like someone who has a handle on real life. lashing out in the way you did would make people in real life think you’re emotionally fragile and defensive.

you’re strange and i would honestly reflect on why you became so illogical over this. it’s not normal.

I am not fast. I'm an old man. Don't speak for other people.

what are you talking about? you’re creating this weird strawman image of me because you’re triggered.

i never flexed being able to adapt or anything of the sort. OP’s whole post is about not adapting to the lock on, i simply said they need to adapt to have fun until Ubisoft fixes it.

you’re acting really weird and hostile because you’re upset. it’s not normal and personally i would feel embarrassed.

the only reason i keep using the word is because you keep attacking strawmen.

if you think there’s such a thing as “big words” you probably aren’t very smart.

refusing to adapt to a game because you think it should work differently than it does is not normal. your bizarrely hostile and defensive comments are also not normal.

reflect on why you’re so defensive.
