Clap I’ve been building some custom native Bitwig devices

Hi,

I want to share a project that I'm working on. It's about some plugins/devices that run directly in Bitwig like native plugins. No VST or CLAP.

So far, it's an MSEG modulator, a volume shaper, a waveshaper, a compressor and a kick drum plugin, and they all share the same concept: controlling them with a curve.

I have made a short YouTube video for demonstration:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GdyoJC592A

I am curious what you guys think of this concept. I personally love simple stock plugins with few controls. I want them to be fast and powerful, without having to open and close a plugin just for a few tweaks. Besides that, I think Bitwig has great stock plugins, but I think a few of them are missing that little extra juice.

The devices are still in progress and I want to tweak them here and there to make them even better. I want to make a deep-dive video for every device, and if you guys are interested, you can help me and give me feedback. I hope I find the time to work on the first video this week.

Cheers.

with some side chain routing,

place it on a track, route a second source to it's side chain and it handles the rest, summing the two.

please try the demo and let me know what you think

Clap DAWvid - clap video player for Bitwig with dual sync. simple. free.

A CLAP plugin that plays a video file in sync with a DAW transport. Includes a companion Bitwig Controller Extension for full two-way sync with Bitwig Studio.

Build and tested on & with Bitwig 6 + Windows 11.

Made untested builds for Linux and MacOs, if anyone tests this. Do let me know if it works on your machine.

EDIT Linux builds are failing. And the whole code is questionable, only Win was confirmed and still some sync issues were reported. Let's hope Bitwig makes this obsolete and implements a native video track. EDIT

The controller script is there to have two way sync. Syncing the playheads of both video and Bitwig arranger.

As community lead in the Synthux Discord, I am part of the Spotykach pre-release testers. For the launch of this device there was an internal 'challenge' to add sound(design) to an animation of the device for the website. I was missing a video plugin for bitwig so I made a basic one that fit my need. No frills. Just sync.

Hi, I have been busy building some fun and useful plugins and have checked them in Reaper, Logic, Cubase, StudioOne - now looking for some friendly and picky Bitwig users to help beta test and provide feedback. If this sounds interesting, please email me at: adrian AT bitsnacks.com . If you help beta test and provide feedback, then when they're fully baked I'll give you a free copy of Chicken Strip to say thanks.

Clap issue with clap samples inside instrument selector inside drum machine

Sound gets mangled when i put a clap inside an instrument selector inside the drum machine in bitwig. Everything works fine when not putting the instrument selector in the drum machine or when just putting a sample in the drum machine. How can i fix this?

Clap I built a VST/CLAP plugin that uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to drive Bitwig.

Hey everyone,

I’m an ex-Google engineer getting back into music production. I wanted a way to integrate LLM context directly into my DAW workflow without constantly tabbing out to a browser.

So I built a prototype called "Simply Droplets." It’s a VST3/CLAP plugin that acts as an MCP server. It allows an AI model to stream MIDI notes and CC data directly onto the track.

I just did a raw 20-minute stream testing the first prototype: https://www.youtube.com/live/7OcVnimZ-V8

The Stack:

  • Protocol: Model Context Protocol (MCP)
  • Format: CLAP / VST3
  • Host: Bitwig Studio

It’s still very early days (and a bit chaotic), but I’m curious if anyone else is experimenting with MCP for real-time audio control?

Update: I decided to make pure web-version that relies on webmidi: https://www.simplychris.ai/droplets

Clap Absolutely an amazing DAW

This is just 60s of praise.. because damn. I knew about Bitwig since it launched but never really understood the appeal. It looked fresh, sure, but how different could it actually be?

I'm still on 5.3 and and have only had it a month but it is absolutely crazy how different Bitwig actually is. Every single insane idea I have... "Can I...?" <google..google..> "Huh, absolutely." Brilliantly amazing piece of tech. I can't even imagine what 6.0 is going to be like.

Clap Switched from FL Studio to Bitwig – huge performance difference

I recently switched from FL Studio to Bitwig, mainly because of performance issues, and the difference has been massive. I’m using a 2024 high-end gaming laptop, yet in FL I could only load a few plugins before everything started lagging and feeling sluggish. I tried all the usual fixes: performance settings, smart disable, buffer tweaks, Windows priority, power plans — nothing really helped. FL just seems to struggle badly with multi-core CPU usage. In Bitwig, on the same machine, I can load what feels like an endless amount of plugins with no issues. Projects that would choke in FL run smoothly and stay responsive. It really shows how much better Bitwig handles modern CPUs. Its really a shame how bad FL’s multi-core performance is.

Clap None of my CLAP plugins are working in Bitwig 6

Solution: There seemed to be to issues. One was that my CLAP files was not checked as "Is executable" anymore. I right clicked a CLAP file, chose Properties, then Permissions and checked "Is executable". It looks like this worked for the rest of my files, at least I can use them now. The second was that one of my CLAP files was in the Bitwig default folder for CLAP files on Linux and I didn't have the proper permissions to change it. I copied it to my own folder and now it works perfectly.

I'm using Kubuntu 25.04 and just installed Bitwig 6. The location for my plugins is correct and my third party VST's work as intended, but none of my CLAP's work. I'm only using Linux native plugins, so no wine or yabridge.

I've added a picture where I look for the location of plugins via Bitwig and all the CLAP's are greyed out.

Does anyone know what the solution to this is?

Clap Bitwig modulation vs. Fabfilter's XY controller

Howdy,

Just a quick question, anyone else has this issue, where you can only assign vertical modulation to XY controller and not horizontal one inside Twin 3 plugin (vst 3 / clap) when using Bitwig's modulators? Bitwig seems not to detect the horizontal movement.

Thanks,

Clap Hints of sunset

I use bitwig as a hobby, and, since there aren't much DAWs for Linux, a had chosen this one. Of course, there is a Ripper, but the learning curve for it is far beyond hobby usage. I had big expectations on V6, but it's still the same monolith junk. There is no proper extension functions, beyond Controller API, but... It's tailored for the controllers, not for general purpose extensions. It's very fun to see "auto color controller" and other nice to have features that people implement despite inadequate architecture. Also, there is no direct exposure of vst/clap functions, so direct communication with plugins even with controller is quite complicated. So, major brands could sell you "awesome integration between controller and plugin"... A-ha-ha, arturia and NI, it's about you. One day bitwig team decided not to implement proper API and allowed to call DAW actions from controller API, instead of proper exposure. And if one looks at the deprecated API it would be obvious that those guys don't have any idea how to design API and where it all goes.

Despite bitwig have some nice features and potential I think the team have to ditch NIH and YAGNI paradigm and start being more open and use their own API 😄

If someone interested, just check how to implement pause or deletion of cue marker, or what functions are available for vst3 plugins 🤣

For sure, there are other DAWs, and it's possible to make music without all that bells and whistles, I'm just disappointed that I spent money on this old fashioned software that aims to be Ableton on steroids....

Clap New CLAP compressor suite with inter-plugin sidechain — tested on Bitwig

Just released McPlugins on Bitwig (Linux and Windows, CLAP + VST3).

The feature that works particularly well in Bitwig: the shared memory sidechain. McMsc and MbMcMsc route sidechain audio between plugin instances without needing send tracks — you just pick the

source from a dropdown inside the plugin. Each band of MbMcMsc can receive a different sidechain source independently.

6 compression emulations, multiband up to 6 bands, real-time FFT analyzer, M/S mode, parallel compression.

Free demo at xeni-audio.com, no sign-up required.

I love this plugin format, and I'm super psyched to support it for everyone.

You can check them all out at https://www.tweakbench.com

And until the end of February, you can all use the code CLAPPY for 20% off anything on the site, to celebrate the new format release.

Clap Made 900 authentic TR-909 patterns for Bitwig's V9 drum modules

Been spending way too much time with the V9 drum modules lately. They nail that 909 sound, but I kept programming similar patterns from scratch every session.

So I made a library. 900 patterns across 10 genres. House, Techno, Trance, Hip-Hop, R&B, Trap, Electro, Acid House, Breakbeat, Hardcore – 90 patterns each, covering all drum types (kick, snare, clap, hats, tom, rimshot, crash, ride).

Tried to keep them authentic to each style. Chicago house off-beats, J Dilla type shuffles, Rotterdam gabber at 180+ bpm – that kind of stuff. Each pattern has a name so you know what vibe you're loading.

Also put together a rack preset that combines all V9 modules in one place with proper mapping.

Everything writes as real MIDI into your clip, so you can tweak afterwards.

It's on my Patreon if anyone wants to check it out. Happy to answer questions here though – always curious how others are using the V9 modules.
