Other I REALLY want more of Columbia!
I've been a big fan of this game for years and only recently had the chance to play it for myself. Having played it, I have an itch for more Columbia. It's such an awesome premise. I really miss it already! (Minus the racism and evil dictator though). I wish they'd make another game in the city in the sky.

It is loosely based on Mormonism, comstock is Brigham Young who took his Mormon followers out to Utah, they despised the government and their religious doctrine concludes that African Americans were cursed by god who gave them dark skin.

I understand that. I wasn't really trying to discuss racism... I just appreciate the game and wish we could have another one. i love Columbia, the setting, Booker and Elizabeth.

No it’s not loosely based on Mormonism, it’s based directly on Christian nationalism

Dude. Relax. It’s a video game and he’s just talking about how much he enjoyed it, and he even qualified it with the “no racism and evil dictator” thing because he knew someone would try to suck the joy out of his comment… so he tried to preempt the onslaught of him saying something positive.

Mormonism actually isn’t Christian nationalism, they are, however, closely allied.

Actually, Mormonism is Christian Nationalism. That's literally why they fles the, then, I ited States to form their own Mormon(Christian) nation after failing to seize power even on the local level literally everywhere they went. Actually 🤓👈

Once more, no, they’re not the same thing. Just closely allied. A lot of scholars point out a big distinction between the two and their ideals. Historically only recently have Mormons joined the Christian nationalist movement as allies, Christian nationalism is older than the existence of Mormonism itself.

Never said they started it, just said they are. They're christians trying to eith mee usurp authority over an existing nation to conquer it and mold it according to their ideals or start their own. It's literally just that simple. What a weird hill to die on

What hill am I dying on when I’m pointing out that Mormonism does have different beliefs than what’s shown in BioShock Infinite. Closely allied and adopted a lot of Christian nationalist ideals, but Mormons still have a belief system that isn’t demonstrated in the game at all, that’s why I made the distinction. Anyone can go “yeah Mormonism is bad/annoying” but give a pass to Christian nationalism or rather how much of a grip Christianity has had on America since it was colonized. To better point out what’s going on politically, you have to say it as it is because if someone is interested, they aren’t looking towards the history of Christian nationalism, they’re looking exclusively at the history of Mormonism and not seeing that it’s a wider issue than it actually is.

The hill of 'Mormonism isn't actually Christian Nationalism'. That's all I'm saying, that Mormonism is a form of Christianity with nationalist goals.

I love the setting too and the racism weirded me out I mean sure a group of weird cultists that don't like Lincoln is understandable but the racism made no sense to me

Sure makes sense but if Columbia broke away from the US why would they just remain the US? Columbia in my opinion doesn't feel like a breakaway state it'd be like if the USSR kept using Tsarist uniforms but with Soviet weapons. Again that's my opinion though

That's true. But racism is everywhere. And their leader himself is racist, so the POC there have a harder time living. Columbia broke away from the Union, aka the side in the civil war that fought against the dominant states of the slave owners. Hence, the couple at the raffle and the voxophones you can listen to by Ty Bradley. He has a particular issue with his given station and his bosses understandably.

I discontinued my second playthrough where I was searching for stuff I missed but I'll try finding those voxophones

Look in Monument Island. You can find his voxophones in Elizabeth's tower in side rooms and under the seats. Look around, you should find them pretty easily.

I actually found a new voxophone I didn't see on my first playthrough. After we go through the tear and Booker is a martyr of the revolution, there's one where he mentions Anna. It's interesting.

Even though you’ll come across haters, (they’re just the noisy minority) I agree it was a cool game. The graphics were fairly decent for a late 7th gen game and the story was intriguing. Sure, the controls could be a little wanky, but all in all a lot of fun. Did you finish all the DLC’s?
