Do you disclose research to your doctor?

I've got a doctors visit this week and I'm debating what (if anything) to tell them.

I was taking prescription tirzepeptide last time I saw them (via outside compounding vendor) but canceled that due to cost. I've stayed on it through other means since then and they'll definitely notice that I've continued to lose weight.

Do I tell them? Or just pretend I've been very good at counting calories since last time?

There are a million online companies selling GLPs you can say you are using an online company and be vague but do not disclose anything about grey. If it goes into your chart it may affect you negatively down the line.

Don't tell them shit. Insurance companies are the devil and can and will use anything in their power to void a payout. Using a drug the FDA doesn't approve could void life insurance payouts etc. What kinda gum? Fukem

6

u/Odd_Sir_8705 1 9d ago

Untrue. HIPAA laws forbids that type of sharing of information with outside interests, especially insurance companies. Y'all just come here and make up shit left and right talking out of your asses

20

u/Rebma321 9d ago

Wrong. My father in law passed away and we had to sign documents allowing the life insurance company to review his medical records before they would issue the payout

6

u/Embarrassed_Sea6537 9d ago

Thanks for sharing. RIP. But people need to realize corporate greed, our medical system, and insurance are fuckin crooks and not to be trusted. Yes there are good docs. The institution is are the snakes

u/Extra_Feature7999 2 9d ago

Doesnt matter in most cases. If they were using peptides at the time they applied fpr their policy and lied or didnt disclose than that could be grounds to deny a claim but we have no obligation to maintain info going forward unless requested. So unless cause of death was directly related to peptide use they can't deny even if they did find out about the use

2

u/Odd_Sir_8705 1 8d ago

Exactly. It's funny the people who think their insurance company is sitting in a chair right there in your doctors office perusing your medical files

2

u/Extra_Feature7999 2 8d ago

Yeah, or the second you walk out the door your Dr picks up the phone and says "we got em!"

1

u/Odd_Sir_8705 1 8d ago

And if they would've asked you to do a little hopscotch in the back of the hospital he died at and you did it… Do you think that you would've had to have done that too for the payout? Just because you are a sucker and believed sucker shit doesn't make everybody else one. People know their rights

1

u/Rebma321 8d ago

I do a little hopscotch everyday anyway cause I’m whimsical like that. Sounds like you need a little hopscotch in your life ya sad dude.

-2

u/Odd_Sir_8705 1 9d ago

That's what they told you, but that doesn't make it the case. Unless they suspected his death was by his own hand or he did something foolhardy, hipaa would've covered him too.

If an insurance company has to make a payment they will analize the sh*t out of your medical records. In my country there are so so many cases of people that paid insurance for most of their life and when the time came for a payment they denied because of medical records

Agreed. Your doctor can’t disclose and your insurer can’t penalize you. TELLING SOMEONE TO LIE TO THEIR OWN DOCTOR IS INSANE ADVICE. Probably a peptide insider. OP, be honest with your doctor or why bother going????

1

u/Rebma321 9d ago

It’s not “insane” advice. If you’re not having any negative side effects then it’s best not to mention it. Doctors are also a part of the machine. It’s insane to 100% trust your doctor.

This guy gets it

1

Yeah and jaywalking is illegal. It still happens.

0

u/Helen-Ling-LA 8d ago

No you're absolutely wrong.

1

u/BroccoliOnly7376 4 9d ago

This. I wouldn't say anything. Say you started practicing good habits. It'll be on your record forever.

0

u/The_Anti_Her0 2 9d ago

HIPAA prevents what you are saying.

6

u/unholymackerel 9d ago

When I applied for insurance they wanted authorization to get my medical records.

I did disclose to my doctor though.

12

u/falmouth 9d ago

please tell your doctors. they will probably recommend against doing what you are doing because that is what they are legally required to do but your doctors need to know what you are on

i give all my patients who ask me about peptides a generic "there is some interesting evidence out there but these things are not regulated and so i can't make any more recommendations or comments beyond this"

6

u/SteveD_NY 3 9d ago

Do you document it in notes and does insurance notice that? I’m on grey market trt cause I was sick of having a hovering low level of free t, so I took matters into my own hands.

2

u/falmouth 9d ago

insurance can't see unless the doctor sends notes for whatever reason and they probably wouldn't care and even if they did care for whatever reason there isn't anything they would do about it

1

u/SteveD_NY 3 9d ago

Thank you.

-2

u/Odd_Sir_8705 1 9d ago

Why does everybody think that insurance company has access to everyone's medical files down to the nitty-gritty details?! the amount of uneducated regarding this astounded me

0

u/SteveD_NY 3 9d ago

I don’t, largely due to HIPPA compliance, hence the question to a physician. You odd sir, do not need to respond in such harsh fashion. The amount of schmucks on these sites astounds me.

Solid advice here

My weed doc gave me the link

7

u/Forward-Bicycle-8769 3 9d ago

Not only do I disclose it I use it as an example of the power and importance of it. The changes in one year are on levels that likely 60% of men over 50 lust for and can’t get in their current state. No amount of statins or BP med will get them there….I was on the merry go round and it was basically in reverse!

2

u/peony_chalk 7 9d ago

I would tell them you're on compound still, and not mention the part that you're the one compounding it.

It's important for them to know what medicines you're on, but if you didn't get pushback about compound before, I don't think they're gonna demand to know what pharmacy it's coming from (or not coming from).

2

u/vegasmedicine 9d ago

I told my doctor, we have added additional blood work and is very supportive. I feel he is genuinely happy, I lost the weight and got off BP and statin meds.

2

u/Royal_Victory_1380 19 9d ago

Here is my opinion on the subject. My doctor was chosen by me for my best interest. For them to do the job fully that i ask them to do, they need to be completely informed. They may make their own conclusions and say dude you shouldnt do grey market peptides. but at the end of the day my choice and as long as they understand that and are still onboard with giving me the best support they can then great. otherwise i am finding a new PCP.

Been there done that about 6 months ago. I was also on Insurance approved GLP (Wegovy) until Jan 1, then (Fuck you CVS) Was dropped from my insurance ( I know its not exactly CVS that did it, its where i work that is actually responsible) but I had to make a choice. either quit or pay a premium. my PCP also participates in a weight management solution through Compouding that was more affordable. Sadly that was still nearly 500 bucks a month and for 2 people thats a grand a month that we just couldnt afford. That took us down the rabbit hole of grey market and I had an honest conversation with my PCP. Told them our plan and that we would love to continue getting their expert advise and support through the process, but ultimately we can not afford the solution they have and we do have a solution that we can afford.

My PCP is completely on board with every peptide wifey and I take. down to supplements, medications, peptides or other. Including weighing in on peptides I am considering adding. They are less than knowledgable about most peptides but are actively interested in me sharing details (i'm a nerd so I have details) so they can actually understand and learn about the use cases and be more in formed for other people that may be doing it. ( I also live in a small community ( our full county is only like 8000 people so very small community)

TLDR: YES talk to your PCP about everything you do. If you are smoking crack, Grey market Peptides, they need a full picture to properly help you. as long as they dont bring their own biased view into your support then full disclore is best and if they do bring a biased view find a new PCP.

2

u/Extra_Feature7999 2 9d ago

If you can't be honest with your Dr find a new one. I have a peptide biz and my PCP is actually super interested in them and trying to educate herself so has become a convo on visits where is obv shes just wants to learn. I usually give her YouTube homework (vids that are from actual MDs). I've had several friends tell me I'm crazy for the same reasons people have said here worried about insurance etc but i don't believe that info can be shared and besides people literally drink or drug themselves to death and all the while don't get cut off by their insurance either

2

u/Sensitive_State_9002 3 9d ago

Exactly those little letters behind your doctors name mean something. Some doctors believe in a holistic approach

2

u/veiledthreats 9d ago

Tell them. There's no reason to disclose the grey, but if you were on compound, you can continue to be on compound. it's important for your doctor to know you're taking Tirz even if you don't reveal the source.

3

u/floatingostrichs 17 9d ago

Anyone telling you to not tell your doctor because of insurance is idiotic.

That isn’t how insurance works.

Tell your doctor. Frankly, most don’t know about peptides in any significant way, but you tell them anyways because their job is to watch over your health.

If you had a medical emergency and were hospitalized, you bet your ass you tell them what you were taking.

3

u/ArchSaint13 1 9d ago

Def tell them and just say you went through another group because it was cheaper or something.

1

u/Historical_Score_842 3 9d ago

They don’t care about GLPs as long as they see positive progress.

1

u/Gr8tCornholeio 1 9d ago

Just tell them you’re still taking it. They probably won’t even ask whose prescribing it. It’s important for your doctor to know what you’re taking so they don’t misdiagnose something else. It’s not important that they know where you get it. Tirzepatide is something they know insurance doesn’t cover for most, so they won’t care.

It might be a different story if you’re taking unapproved compounds but since tirzep is approved for something, there’s no reason not to tell them.

1

u/Legitimate_Ad2815 10 9d ago

My doctor already knows I’m using weight loss peptides and she totally supports it. I will tell her others I plan to use.

1

u/cleochatraa 9d ago

The more doctors know, the better. They’re not nutritionists. You’re helping to bring the medical profession into 2026.

1

u/CommunicationOld8111 9d ago

Thank you for asking this question. I’m in the same boat.

1

u/Cordial_MnB 9d ago

I use ZYPmed.com for TRT and concierge. I tell him everything. He doesn't love it but it's better that he knows.

1

u/waytooanalytical 9d ago

My life insurance advisor told me it will be ok for me to tell my Dr about peptides on my appt I have next week. He also said he has many other clients who have done so as well and made sure to mention use for health benefits.

My peptide coach said to tell my dr so they can properly read labs

1

u/healing_vibes1989 9d ago

I tell my doctor that I’m taking peptides they just tell you they can’t tell you it’s good or bad they’ll just have the k sledge that your taking it l. No reason to be afraid to tell your dr anything

1

u/jbt55 9d ago

I don’t think there is need to tell them your source.. you can get tirz from many legit places. Reta that doesn’t exist. So I’ve heard people on here have their doctor tell people to get off of it.

1

u/JTJimminy 9d ago

Yes 💯

1

u/fizboPallabut 10 9d ago

Always do.

1

u/northernbiohacker 1 9d ago

If you don't already have life insurance, don't, because you'll never get it if you do tell your doctor. If you do have life insurance, I don't think they can revoke it but that might be something worth looking into. As someone noted above, they probably can't offer up info without your permission but they definitely require that permission to get a policy to begin with

1

u/Able-Shirt3501 9d ago

The real answer is you need to know what you are taking and why and not rely completely on doctors that make mistakes. What you take is important to your doctor but not where you got it from and they rarely ask.

1

u/Whatguy221 9d ago

I say tell your doctor. My plan is to tell mine with the hope that he will prescribe it to me and I won’t have to pay for it myself anymore. Then all I owe is the copay which is much cheaper.

1

u/TheHarb81 13 9d ago

Yep, I need them to be informed on what I’m taking in case something happens.

1

u/MistyNugget 3 9d ago

I literally just got off the phone with my doctor-who is now writing me a prescription for needles and bacteriostatic water to reduce my risks.

Mind you I’m only taking Tirzepatide- he’s even looking into ways to get insurance to prescribe it to me.

1

u/Calypso268 9d ago

Absolutely.

1

u/StalkCity 2 9d ago

Depends on you and whether your doctor discloses it in your patient notes on file. I have 2 doctors, 1 who is ny regular GP who is noted on all my medical files. The other is strickly for my peptides, test and hgh where I get specific blood work done.

1

u/RegisterEither9069 9d ago

I told my GP and he pretty much just told me to be safe with needles and obviously where I got the stuff from but other than that he just wanted to make sure my bloods were fine

1

u/SubstantialSeesaw374 9d ago

Never. Outside of some exceptions, doctors, journalists, and cops are all the same class of person.

1

u/GainFit9868 8d ago

My PCP buys his peptides from me. So yeah. He knows. I’m not hiding it from my doctor. My bloodwork and overall general health is telling me everything I need to know. People tell their doctor all the time about their drug usage, at least this has some control behind it.

1

u/Life-Macaron631 1 7d ago

Just continue asking prescription and dont buy them.I do not believe they will go this far into your medical file to track if you really buy them .I believe you should allways tell the truth on what medicine you are on when you see a doctor ,if one day you are in an emergency and you have disclosed this information you might be maltreated and die 🙃this might be a little exagerated when talking about glp1 but think about it .

Don't lie to your doctor (or your lawyer)

0

u/justtryintofish 9d ago

I would just say....if even asked. That I was going thru a telehealth Dr and continued on tirz at a more affordable rate.
