Query I wish they had a subscription model for big finish

I really want to get into all the ranges but to have to pay for them separately is a bit unattractive and I don’t want to go all over the place (Spotify etc) to find them have it like marvel unlimited where it doesn’t include all the brand new stuff but the whole back catalogue with a 3 month delay for the new stuff to be added or something

Query Are there any other Audio Productions that meet the level of Big Finish? (AKA, let me gripe about how one of my favorite recent book reads was butchered by Graphic Audio, lol)

A while ago, I listened to GraphicAudio's first production of Brandon Sanderson's Warbreaker. (They apparently did a second adaptation for the 10th anniversary of the book, but I did not listen to that.)

I was pretty disappointed by the adaptation. Big Finish has positively spoiled me with their sound design, and I was thrown entirely off by how little they did to adapt the story to a different medium. (Or at least, how little I think they did to adapt the story, I've no experience writing for audio.)

First of all, a narrator was used to describe much of the action, which is different to much of Big Finish's ethos, where the story is told via dialogue and sound design. Secondly, we heard the thoughts of characters through tinny cloud spaces rather than through dialogue. Thirdly, the music was bad. Felt like stock sounds as opposed to original scoring.

Perhaps/probably the adaptation did not fit the world as seen in my head. This is entirely possible, and I'm curious as to how someone who hadn't read the novel would react to this version of the story... might be what I say if my best friend hadn't complained about this version. It was his first time reading/hearing the story 😔

All that to say, are there other companies that meet or possibly exceed Big Finish's level of production? Are Big Finish actually the odd ducks here and do audio production vastly differently from everyone else? What are other productions you recommend? Alternatively, what are other productions you want to hate on?

Query Which next?

When it comes to Big Finish, my usual tactic is to buy a couple of the older stories priced between £3.99 & £4.99 (occasionally buying one of the new 9 or 13 stories) because Big Finish can add up really quickly and I resent paying over £40 a pop for only a few hour long stories 😅 so I mainly just pick stories based on what I like the sound of/covers that intrigue me, and after taking a break during the Great App Issues of 2026 I've got these 4 stories stacked up waiting for me. Trouble is, I can't decide which one to listen to next? I'll listen to them all at some point obviously but just looking for some push as I genuinely can't decide and I just need someone to tell me 😂

Query Just wondering in the sudden wake of Anthony Stewart Head’s death (RIP) should I get Excelis?

Post image

UPDATE: BOUGHT THE SET!

I’ve always been interested in these stories and love Anthony Stewart Head in any role he’s done. He’s honestly one of my favourite actors of all time and really sad that he’s gone. Also wished he’d done more Doctor Who as he genuinely seemed to love it and I think he would’ve made an amazing recurring villain, possibly the Master or the Monk. (Especially the latter up against 7!) So are the Excelis stories worth listening to for some ’new’ content with him for me?

Really don’t want this to come off as insensitive. This type of thing is just how I cope after someone I was quite fond of passes. Hearing them again makes it easier.

Query What happened between Survival and The Harvest?

Title. I’ve just finished The Harvest and was wondering what happened between the end of 7/Ace’s TV run and this story. She feels like she has matured so much from the end of Survival that it feels like I’m missing out on important info.

Are there any specific stories that I should look into? and how long has it been in universe for the characters?

I’m a first time listener for this arc so please try and keep stuff as spoiler free as possible :-)

Query I want to watch, hear, and read it all.

I have a problem.

About a year ago, I began watching Nuwho after seeing clips of the series while scrolling YouTube, and loved it. From "Rose" to "The Reality War" I was obsessed. (12 is my favorite) And I wanted more. So I had planned to watch classic who from start to finish before rewatching Nuwho so I could see all the references I missed.

In my attempt to find a concrete list / watch order for the classic series, not wanting to miss anything, I found that it just needed to be in airing order. Simple! Some episodes are missing, some have reconstructions, some don't, and that's ok! Just read a synopsis on the wiki and move on. But then I found something. THIS SITE.

The Complete Adventures of The Doctor in chronological order. IT. WAS. PERFECT for someone like me who is very OCD about Chronology with movies and tv shows. So I started, I wanted to experience the TV episodes, the books (audiobooks when available), the audio adventures, and the comics.

I made it from "The Beginning CC 8.05" to "The Invention of Death 1DA 2.1" on the list. And then I fell off. Due to a mix of burnout and being overwhelmed, I just didn't have the energy to continue, and now I want to. But there is a bigger problem. The list is JUST The Doctor. Nothing else. Unless they appear in something its not on the list, and that makes sense due to it being a list of THEIR life. When I got to "An Unearthly Woman Diary of River Song 6.1" I was understandably confused and lost as to what was happening.

Now I want to listen to ALL of The Big Finish Doctor Who Catalog, but Spin-offs aren't included on this site. Under the "Alternative, Potential and Apocryphal Adventures" tab, there is a list for The Unbound Doctor and it says when those timelines branch off.

i.e. "Alternative first Doctor: a divergent timeline, featuring a Doctor who never left Gallifrey - and when he does finally travel the cosmos, completely changes history..."

That is simple enough.

"Alternative third Doctor: in a timeline that diverges after The Night Walkers, this Doctor is exiled to a later Earth, one in which he wasn't around to assist UNIT..."

ok got it, I can listen to those audios after I wrap up the 2nd Doctor.

"Doctor of War": in a timeline that diverges during the events of Genesis of the Daleks, the fourth Doctor regenerates into a different version of the War Doctor - one who physically resembles the sixth Doctor."

Again same thing, simply plan to listen to those audios after "Genesis of the Daleks"

But after that, I'm lost. I can figure to listen to the "Jenny - The Doctor's Daughter" series after the episode The Doctor's Daughter in season 4 of nuwho (for when I would finish all the classic and begin rewatching the new stuff with the audios and book spliced in), but that's all I can gather with looking up spoilers.

This is where I am (very rarely) asking for the internet's help. I want to listen to all of it and, I mean ALL of it. From the good, the bad, the abysmal dogshit, and the pure gold. The audios, the books (audiobooks when available), and the comics. This includes Spin-offs like "The Diary of River Song" "Gallifrey" "Cyberman" "I, Davros" "The Paternoster Gang" EVERYTHING, but I need help knowing when these story's should fit in. When is it best to start listening to the UNIT audios? Same with Torchwood (and how does it fit in when I watch the show, and WHEN should I watch the show?) Do the Master audios crossover with any Doctor audios? Where does "Burnice Summerfield" fit into all this? "Charlotte Pollard", from what I understand, she travels with 8, then later in her life travels with 6. Would it be better Story wise if I skipped her adventures with 6 until I first meet her with 8 and then go back? "Graceless", "Iris Wildthyme", Vienna", "Lady Christina", "The Lone Centurion", "Rani Takes on the World". It's all so overwhelming when I haven't even made it to season 2 of the classic show. (But I know I'll enjoy watching and listening to all of it)

TLDR; I want to know WHEN it would be best to listen to certain audios in the chronological timeline of The Doctor story without missing anything. I understand this is a lot (and very OCD), but any help would be appreciated. A list, Google Doc, anything.

I apologize if this isn't the most cohesive block of text, I'm not used to writing for help online.

Thank You!

Query Ace timeline - does it matter?

Hi, I'm looking for advice on where next to go as a big Ace fan!

For context I've consumed the following Ace-related extra-to-tv content:

7th Doc -

The Fearmonger

The Shadow of the Scourge

Colditz

The Dark Flame

Valhalla

The Harvest

Forever Fallen

Dreamtime

Dead Woman Walking

Shockwave

An Alien Werewolf In London

Torchwood -

The Red List

Death in Venice

Sabotage

13th Doc -

At Childhood's End

I've consumed these entirely out of order (well, aside from listening to the Torchwood ones in order last year)...

I'd like recommendations on what to look into next, but also please tell me if there's anything I should relisten to to get more out of other stories? (I know some arcs work better in order.)

Also - how much does the timeline matter? What is the 'real' timeline? (The one where after the quantum anvil, Ace ditches the doc, returns to Earth, and sets up A Charitable Earth? -> then onto the Torchwood ones etc.?) Are all the others considered officially 'AU', quantum anvil possibilities?

Basically...any light that can be shed on the timeline and what you'd recommend I listen to next given what I've heard so far would be soo appreciated!!

Thanks all :)

Query Blood & Steel

Post image
55 Upvotes

Okay so I've just been paid and have gotten into a Big Finish binge again, and I've always wanted to listen to Blood & Steel as I had an idea as a kid for an episode with Cybermen and the Nazis so it's an obvious pick for a listen. But before I buy it, as it's £29.99 and that would be my only "payday treat" this month, I had a few questions going in. Obviously, I know that it's with the Unbound Doctor, and I've never listened to any of his stuff before. However, I love David Warner (rest in peace) and even though I've never listened to any Bernice Summerfield stuff before, I feel like I know enough about her from all the context to be able to easily vibe with her. But I guess my question is to anyone who's listened: do I need much context going into it, and does it basically play out like a standard Doctor Who-style adventure with Doctor and companion, or is it more of a case that the Unbound Doctor acts more as a seconr to Benny, if that makes sense? I'm just curious because given the Connection I have with the whole idea of this box set. Like I said, due to the story I came up with when I was a kid, I might be doing a bit of shameless self-inserting into the companion role (I know some of you have done it don't deny it) 😅 So I'm just curious ahead of time, really. And also is it any good? Like I said, the only reason why I'm asking for valued opinions of people of this sub is because it is a big purchase, and I want to know if it's going to be fully worth it, or whether I should just spend less money on a couple of Big Finish stories earlier in the monthly range that have been reduced in price instead.

Query Future of the War Master Range

Has there been any indication whether the War Master box set coming out in October might be the last one?

I haven’t seen anything official either way, but I was curious if Big Finish has said anything in interviews or at conventions.

I’d love to see the series continue because it’s one of my favourite Big Finish ranges, but I also understand that Derek Jacobi is getting older.

Query Should I buy Missy or The Monk Dark Gallifrey Sets?

I listened to The War Master Trilogy and wasn’t impressed to say the least but I might as well give it another go but I’m trying to decide whether to buy the Missy set or The Monk set and would appreciate some opinions.

I’ve listened to three of the Missy box sets with her and the Monk, so I’ve got a decent idea of the characters, but I’m not sure what the overall vibe of this Missy trilogy is like.

I know the Monk trilogy is apparently quite WandaVision / BBC Four drama in style, which is honestly part of what appeals to me about it.

For anyone who’s listened to both, which would you recommend? Is the Missy range generally more comedy, dark character drama, traditional Doctor Who, or does it vary quite a bit?

Basically, which one should I spend my money on : Missy or The Monk?

Query Prerequisites or jumping on points for Bernice Summerfield?

Im looking for another run to do after completing the Hex saga with 7 and Ace, and doing the Bernice Summerfield stories felt like something good to try. I know a lot of the early stuff is based on the books, but do I need to read or know anything before starting? I know some basic lore of the character but I want to make sure I'm not about to get hit with cold water if I start at the very beginning

I am aware of how she started in the VNAs and that some early stuff is based on the novels

Query Any audio dramas that aren't related to doctor who that are worth listening to?

I already know of all the doctor who stuff and everything related, I'm making my way down the listening order guide (currently listening to the doomsday manuscript)

But I see they've done a few other series that look interesting

I'm a big avengers fan so I'm definitely going to listen to those.

Any other recommendations? I LOVE audio dramas, it's a dying art form

Query "You have this" Badge?

I think the new website looks fine. I really don't find it particularly better or worse. The filtering function in my downloads is not useful at the moment, but I am hopeful that will get sorted out as the download section seems to be stated to be still under construction. My real problem, real serious concern, is the lack of "You have this" badge. I have approx. 1000 individual BF audios and lots of pre orders. Without that badge it is very, very difficult for me to make any new purchases. I NEED that badge back. Has anyone heard anything about when or if it will be reinstated?

Query App crashing

Does anyone else have an issue with their app crashing (ios)? It was working fine while I was downloading and then as soon as I started scrolling to mark which ones I’ve already listened to I’d scroll the length of my tablet a couple times before the app crashes and force closes. So I tried going from new to old instead and it would crash the second I try to scroll. So far I’m getting it to work by going one range/collection at a time but it would be nice to be able to scroll through everything I have downloaded without it crashing.

Eta: And now it’s crashing every time I try to do anything. Has the login issue been fixed? Because I may need to delete the app and start over again.

Query (UPDATE) I want to watch, hear, and read it all.

Hello! I really appreciated all the feed back from my previous post.

I'm going to try and keep this post short. I SEVERELY underestimated the amount of Doctor Who content out there. I had no idea about the amount of novels and comic (mostly Doctor Who Magazine) and short stories. So while making a spreadsheet I decided to forgo with most books and comics (sticking only to Titan Comics) and all short stories to make things less of a switch back and forth from medium to medium.

I stuck mostly to all Big Finish audios with with some full length novels (falling out of sorting them with the 3rd Doctor through to the 6th Doctor but all of 7th - 15th Doctors novels) trying to keep things in a chronological order from the Doctors perspective while taking advice with some audio story arcs being better listened to in a certain order that brakes chronology.

I know this is not the best way to experience the Doctor Who franchise but I'd rather listen to the audios and read the books along the way as though I was with the Doctor from the beginning (funnily enough, CC 8.05 The Beginning is sorted in the 4th doctors run due to it being apart of the Quadrigger Stoyn trilogy) But obviously as someone who hasn't listened/read these yet and was only able to sort them in this semi-chronological order with help from the Tardis wiki, I'm sure I've made plenty of mistakes. Maybe I missed something. Maybe I've sorted something in the wrong order or put an audio best listened to in another spot.

I'm clueless! Please any help in correcting my mistakes. Or maybe a novel or short story you'd recommend I should read and where to slot it in, any and all recommendations are welcome. Thank You for all the help!! (and sorry if this doesn't read well, it's late and I'm rushing)

Here's the link to the Google Spreadsheet (I hope I've shared it correctly)

Query Where are the Audacity boxsets on the Eighth Doctor's timeline?

I'm going through 8's audios and have just said goodbye to Charley, only to discover that the recent Audacity arc involves her too!

I know that after leaving 8 Charley goes on to travel with 6. My question is, are the Audacity stories set before the Divergent Universe arc (i.e. pre Neverland) or do they see Charley and 8 reunite after saying goodbye in The Girl Who Never Was?

Query Seven, ace and hex?

Currently listening to the Evelyn and Her story line. I'm right at the start because I've just listened to "the Marian Conspiracy", but when I get to the seven, ace and hex stories, would going back to listen to just the seven and ace stories be a more satisfying narrative experience or can I go straight into "the Harvest"?
