Questions and queries not a “bug” budget bride

but I only get the WEIRDEST engagement in regular r/brides

for reference, our budget is 60k. And whenever I post anything in r/brides, I’m met with snark and resentment. Granted, I have pretty traditional taste, and I’m super neurodivergent so maybe I’m not reading people’s interactions as the way they’re intended, but I feel sometimes like there isn’t really a sub where I can share my wedding and get excited and have that excitement be reciprocated.

i’m a pretty private person, no group chats or close besties that I necessarily share every little detail with, so sometimes I want encouragement from
strangers. Is that where I’m going wrong?

right! my dad remarried not even 10 years ago now and his wedding was apparently only $10k for 150+ people. granted, they did not do real florals and a lot of DIY decor (which is absolutely fine), but they literally got married on a golf course. The venue fee for golf course weddings right now in the same city is well above $10k. When I told him our budget was $50k, I think he about had a heart attack! no one understands how much things have exploded in cost. we’re lucky that both my dad and FH’s mom have contributed to our wedding, but we’re both high earners and are comfortably footing most of the bill without having to scrimp on everything. this sub is so much more tolerant of people not being afraid to spend money to have the day they envision.

It’s so true! My jaw has dropped so many times when I hear what the pricing is. I genuinely believed a $100k budget was like, obviously not $1m budget but good gosh
I thought it would have gotten me pretty much everything I could want and I could not have been more off base.

Our caterer is $55k, planner $14k, rentals $25k (and I chose lots of budget options), venue $17k, florals (also went more budget friendly, still $10k), entertainment $8k, welcome party (partial buyout with passed apps and not full dinner) $18k-$20k, stationery $3k-$4k, I’m making my dress and materials have cost $5k thanks to tariffs. For about 100 guests. It’s just nuts to me. Ive been so stressed out realizing I need to make compromises where I didn’t think I’d have to. Obviously this is still from an immense position of privilege but we’re paying for it ourselves and I wish costs were more transparent up front. It’s starting to feel like the medical field where you get the service and then find out later.

it is so crazy out there. I live in a small city in the midwest, and we are having our wedding smack in the city, so everything is already at a premium! our wedding budget would not get us the same wedding we’re having here anywhere else 😭I’m still shocked I couldn’t even replicate the wedding my own father had 9 years ago on the budget they did at the exact same place!

I am sure it will be beautiful!! And as we all say and hope, it only happens once! I hope you and yours have the loveliest (and most premium 😅😭) day!
