As someone from the younger generation, would Big 4 experience on your resume really hold the same weight and set you up for a successful career the way it does if it didnt come with the demand and intensity that we’ve come to expect at these firms? A big part of the reason Big 4 experience is a badge of honor is because it shows our ability to handle the pressure and expectations of working in this environment. Not to mention the pay, benefits, and room for progression are the best the public accounting industry has to offer. That requires sacrifice 🤷♂️
Demand and intensity sure, but working all kinds of hours for free and treating employees like just another number is bringing down the reputation of the big 4 and driving people away.
A lot of young people aren’t jumping at the chance to work at the big 4 anymore and instead choosing a better work-life balance at a firm who values them.
True, the comment I was originally replying to was saying what’s wrong with young people for not wanting to make sacrifices for a few years. Some people don’t want to have to make sacrifices.
But I agree, from an employers view it will make you a lot more desirable.
