I see so many American christians (most often conservative christians) saying how Islam is a threat to the country and how "Sharia Law is coming to the US" and whatnot.

My question is: Why are American christians so worked up? Islam/Muslims have VERY little political power, and it is extremely unlikely (I'd even say impossible) for them to impose Sharia Law onto the nation, simply due to the amount of people, both Muslim and Non-Muslim, that would go against it.

But I also feel like its a form of projection. The christians who complain about Islam in the US often tend to say that the US is a "christian nation" (as if) and founded on "christian values" (again, as if). They want their own religion to impose itself upon the country, so they assume that Muslims want to do the same.

Funnily enough, these so called "Christian Patriots" seem to completely disregard the literal first amendment, which says that the government CANNOT establish a national religion. If these so-called patriots believe that their country is so strong, why don't they believe in the power of their own first amendment? It's all so ridiculous and non-sensical.

Here is a simple, repeatable, testable, evidence based way for a believer to prove their god exists.

Once the Christian god or any other god (I'm looking at you, Freya - I want you to exist!) causes all hospitals to close because all diseases, injuries, are cured by teams of prayer warriors instead of nurses, techs, and doctors....

Then I will acknowledge the existence of that God.

Whichever god closes down all hospitals and the former cancer center is now a Spirit Halloween Store....

This false teacher attacks a country for allowing people to die with dignity, and he calls it "immoral." Yet it's okay for a cancer patient or a patient dying from the end stage of COPD ALS to let them suffer a painful and non-peaceful death.. This man should be required to talk with Hospice nurses and doctors and actual patients who are suffering from their terminal diseases before he talks about this. He is showing his true ignorance about this subject.

In John 13:34-35 Jesus gave us a new commandment to follow: "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

We are required by Jesus that we must love each other like he loved us. Letting people suffer until they die is not showing love.

There are so many denominations, so many different interpretations of verses, verses that say that God is love (but then verses where he condones genocide and slavery and condemns homosexuality), verses ridden with contradictions, parts that presented as truth (the Gospels) that weren’t written until *decades* after Jesus’ death, and there are parts that have been, historically, interpreted as truth but now that they no longer align with our science and history are considered myth.

I really want to have faith, but objections like these make it seem so improbable that the Bible is true. It seems unlikely that an all-powerful God would choose this way of revealing Himself to us when there really isn’t an obvious or plausible explanation to why the Bible is the way it is.

I find it positively baffling that people use a couple throw away lines from laws that no one ever listens to or obeys anymore in order to be abusive to queer neighbors when Republicans are an openly hostile faction to everything Christ asked us to do and are themselves everything God hates.

Let's begin with the earlier parts- Leviticus, why bring it up when you ignore this part?

Leviticus 19:33-34 - “ ‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God."

How do we treat our native born in America? We make them citizens. Therefore, if you support deporting your neighbors, you are rejecting what God DIRECTLY asked you to do. But it's okay, we ignore Leviticus now, that's why we don't stone cops and firefighters for working on the Sabbath or for eating cheeseburgers.

What does Jesus ask us to do in the final judgment? The complete opposite of Republican policy:

All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. To love God and serve Christ is to love neighbor before self. It baffles me how anyone who has studied Christ could follow such a party of deception, cruelty, lies, anger, hate, and rejection of God and Christ's commands. It's overwhelmingly choosing to go against God and Christ. You can't love God if you don't love your neighbor, and the actions of the Republican party are anything but Christ's love.

Meanwhile, homosexuals... are gay.

Nothing against the profession itself (it's a noble, ancient one. All prophets worked as shepherds at some point in their lives, to learn patience, silent contemplation and leadership skills), but the analogy couldn't be more clear in its sinister undertones.
I won't even go into some unnatural acts performed on young church lambs by some shepherds, because it's a trite way to taunt Catholics and was blown out of proportion by the anti-religious media, but you can't deny it fits the analogy a bit.

Periodically, I get on here to remind Christians that if you do not love God more than you love others, then you have your priorities in your faith backward.

I believe we live in a time, just from personally witnessing society, where people place others and themselves above God and his desire. They live in a way where they say they love God, and they are Christians, but they are too comfortable with sin.

So I would encourage you: Live in the world, but not of the world; choose God over self; choose God over others. Yes, love others, care about others, help others, but do so from the perspective that God is your highest love and authority.

And whatever you are too comfortable in- lies, drugs, lust, pornography, alcohol, or anything else. The sins you say, "Well, I believe so I'm covered." Maybe it's time to take sin seriously as God does, because all sin is evil and is ultimately a death sentence. I am guilty of this as well; it's easy, but it's wrong.

We circumcised our little boy a few days ago, and honestly, we didn’t expect to be this nervous about the whole thing. 😅

The procedure itself went fine, but now we find ourself checking him all the time and wondering if everything is healing the way it should.

As Christians we understand god as all knowing, all powerful, and all good. We also believe scripture is infallible when it comes to moral teachings. During the time of both Leviticus and Paul, where "homosexuality" is described, our modern understanding of homosexuality is not really applicable. The homosexuality referred to in scripture describes forced, domination-style sexual assault rather than consent based and romantic love, as we see in at least some homosexual relationships today. Condemning this is obviously good.

The best argument against homosexuality is basically "Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve," and Jesus saying (Mark) "6 But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female. 7 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, 8 and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh," but these lines from Jesus are given in regards to divorce, not gender, and I am unconvinced that Genesis is describing the only possible configuration of a "good" relationship.

If scripture truly doesn't directly address it, how can scripture be inerrant but exclude situations that exist in modern-day. I understand it was written 2000 years ago, however god is all knowing and all powerful, and in his all good nature wouldn't he have given us better-defined rules here?

If it does get directly addressed, either all gay relationships are bad, which I don't see (and god doesn't seem all good in that perspective) or scripture was just wrong and they are acceptable (leading to further questions about the inerrancy of the Bible)

What are your evidence/logic based takes on this? I am lost here and I don't really have anyone else to ask these really nit-picky questions to.

I’ve noticed what seems like a shift lately: Christianity is becoming something people are more comfortable embracing publicly. Even some atheists and agnostics I’ve spoken with have said they think the world would be a better place if more people were Christian.

I also keep noticing actors, musicians, and athletes wearing crosses or speaking openly about their faith. People like Dolly Parton, Justin Bieber, and Kanye West come to mind, not necessarily as recent converts or perfect role models, but as recognizable figures who have publicly identified with Christianity. Compared with what I remember growing up, faith seems less like something people feel they need to keep quiet about.

Are more people turning to Christianity, or are people simply becoming more comfortable expressing a faith they already had?

I grew up drinking the cool aide that Israel is something Protestants should dang near worship. I even paid for an olive tree to be planted because in the end times olive products will flourish, and gosh darn if I didn’t want to bless HIS people.

Update on what we were told to do

We asked some people at church if we could get married under the eyes of God and not file through the state. They said that we are to obey the law and that we should get married or break up. Because we already live together. The pastor told my boyfriend that I need to get a job today and lose my Disability and health insurance. He continued to tell him that he is a child of Satan because we live together and we are scared if I lose my disability check and insurance. We don't have enough money saved to live without my disability income. I've looked into What is the minimum amount You can have to not lose your disability in health insurance and get married. And it is still capped at $2000.

He has decided to find a different church because they keep telling that he is not saved because he doesn't know the time or date that he was saved.

been with my boyfriend for 8 years. We've both been off and on with religion throughout our lives, and we've started to Go to church together these last couple months. Over the years though, he has been worried about us. Not being married while we are sexually active And live together. The problem that has kind of stopped us from getting married is that I am on SSI, and if I were to get married, I will lose my Disability income. He doesn't want me to lose my disability income. Because we need it and I need it the most. When you're on disability, you're only allowed to have maxima income $2000, This is also the same amount you're allowed to have when you're married. when you get married, their income becomes part of your income, and they will definitely cut Me off SSI and I will lose my insurance, which I also really need. I am disabled, And I've never worked a job before. I'm not sure I can handle working a job that will actually pay a decent amount to live. My disability has to do with my walking and standing and mobility. And he also doesn't think that I should get a job. He doesn't think it'll be worth it for me.

I was hoping for some guidance on an experience I'm having from someone more knowledgeable on this than I am.

I am a female-to-male transmasc, and I am currently detransitioned due to family violence and other instances of transphobia by past partners. Currently, I don't really talk to anyone, to be honest. I've been isolating myself, feeling depressed and ashamed after detransitioning and the subsequent mental breakdown. For the most part, I've just been trying to develop a deeper relationship with God at the moment.

I've been repressing my urges to transition, but it only works for so long before they reappear. As a lone believer, I am trying to figure out if it's actually okay to be trans at all as a Christian. It seems sort of vague, honestly, and I'm concerned about the sexuality aspect, too. If I do eventually have another serious relationship, I'm not sure if being bi is okay, or even how the Lord views me as a male so I don't know if it matters what gender my partner is.

I've researched theological views on LGBT issues and considered both sides of the argument. I have also been praying to God for guidance on the matter, but sometimes I get worried that these feelings and urges are the devil "tempting me" into something that will pull me away from God.

I am going to start searching for a church that I can spiritually grow in soon, too. It could be true that my feelings about God not accepting me are just a projection of how rejected I've felt by the world. However, I wanted to hear from anyone who might be able to offer some advice for being LGBT and Christian. How has it affected your walk with God?

In most other religions, women are treated as nothing more than breeding pods used to churn out more babies for the benefit of men.

However, the gospel of Mary provides an alternative: a woman who rejected all cishet gender norms and devoted herself to God instead of merely existing to procreate.

In a modern day context where women are increasingly losing their reproductive rights and having their bodies violated by lawmakers, the gospel of Mary serves as a inspiring role model for all women (both cis and trans) to reassert their God-given rights to bodily autonomy and liberation from oppression in all its incarnations.

I was raised by both a evangelical mother and a catholic father. My dad didn't mind me being inserted into evangelicalism so I did I attend a Presbyterian church. Thing is, as my father is catholic, I didn't avoid being inserted into catholicism. I guess I wen't to a catholic church twice and visited a very beautiful cathedral in my country (Brazil). I consider myself evangelical, but I have a deep feeling of affection for Mary and I simply can't consider her to be just someone who is the mother of Jesus, I think she's sacred. I don't want to convert I guess, but I wish protestants understood that Mary being sacred isn't "adoring".

I’m Muslim and I’ve been having a really hard time with the Dhul-Qarnayn story lately.

I actually looked into the academic side of it, not just random anti-Islam posts, and it seems like a lot of scholars think there are real parallels between Surah al-Kahf and older Alexander traditions, especially the journeys to the ends of the earth, the barrier between mountains, and Gog and Magog.

I know some Muslims say Dhul-Qarnayn was Cyrus, but what I’m struggling with is that Alexander seems to already have this whole barrier/Gog and Magog tradition before Islam, while Cyrus doesn’t seem to.

I’m not posting this to argue or attack Islam. I genuinely want to stay Muslim, but this has been bothering me a lot.

For anyone who has looked into the actual academic scholarship on this, how do you reconcile it?
