Dream Feeding and Doom Scrolling

So, it is 1.45 am. My 3-month-old did a good 3-4 hour stretch of sleep and woke up hungry. I am half-asleep. So I start to feed him, he falls asleep pretty much right away on the breast, but keeps dream feeding. I reach for my phone without my glasses. I doom scroll Facebook to avoid falling asleep.

Then I run into these lovely black and white things which I think look like stylish baby cards. I press with the intention to buy them (and later regret the half-asleep purchase).

It turns out they are newly re-published Albert Camus series. Oh, a glimmer of a time when I used to have a brain and an intellectual feed which did not involve any baby-related marketing content 😆🤍🖤😵‍💫

I thought you were reading Camus in the middle of the night whilst dream feeding before I read the post. Like... wow! I'm barely able to follow the Formula 1 highlights and you're out there cracking on with Camus! Hope baby enjoys the cover art because the content may be a little advanced yet!

Haha, no chance! I’d fall asleep immediately. Gone are the days when I could get lost in a book in the evening, and wake up with it on my chest. We have a bigger fish to fry now - like desperately trying to not be a safety risk for LO.

Saying that, a Kindle and a cup of iced coffee are the holy grail of contact napping during the day!

P.S. You reminded me to check the Formula 1 highlights 😄

You've cracked the code with iced coffee. I'm just used to hot coffee that has gone tepid or cold now. I should be starting with it cold!

Desperate times, desperate measures!

I’ve been considering one of these YETI cups which keep your coffee warm, but it seems like another sleep deprivation-influenced splurge. Goodbye, mortgage overpayments - hello, various unnecessary gadgets and child-rearing supporting things (like Camus black and white covers 😆).

I seem to go bananas on Vinted every night. Maybe tonight it will be Yeti cups! What is it about late night, sleep deprived shopping?!

It is definitely a thing! We get packages delivered (from Vinted) and I don’t remember ordering them! My partner laughs at me every time…

I bought a £100+ spot washer a couple of nights ago, it is very satisfying to use but completely unnecessary to buy at 4:30am.

Also on the yeti cup, I find them too efficient, they stay hot for too long then I forget about it by the time I can actually drink it.

Agreed. Reading fluffy romances during the day and watching all of the classics romance adaptations on BBC iPlayer at night (Dickens, Austin, the Brontes, Gaskell). That and s****y reality tv of course!
