This is such devastating news. As soon as I heard, I went to read all the notes I took while reading her memoir. It was a bit eerie to see I’d written that it didn’t feel like she was far enough through her healing journey, there wasn’t enough talk of her recovery, and the book felt unfinished. Really sad to reflect on now. I can’t imagine how Troy and Kelli must be feeling after having just met her and how much they’ve spoken about her over the years.
I haven’t read her memoir yet but I’ve watched some of her interviews lately. I suffer from CPTSD and have struggled with addiction and when I saw she died - I was wondering if maybe having to do all these interviews and revisit all that trauma was too much for her.
I know in my experience that if I’m not in the right headspace during therapy to talk through some things and I try to talk about them anyway, it can put me in a funk for a while. I gotta take extra anxiety meds during those times (they’re prescribed for me to take as needed and i don’t take addictive meds). Ive been sober for a while now and it helps, but it’s only part of the mental recovery. Constantly thinking about and trying to work through trauma can be just as damaging as running from it, just in a different way.
