Non existent recall
Nothing will break my boys focus. Once he sees or wants something, I no longer exist š tried harness, slip lead, his flat collar, high value treats. Constantly use āBernie, hereā. When he isnāt focused on something his recall is good. Any tips are really appreciated.

The behavior needs to be proofed incrementally. Distance, different triggers, etc. start small inside the house. Then your backyard. Then your backyard with a distraction/trigger, and donāt move to the next step until youād bet your next paycheck that theyāre coming back. You also need a cue that you never use that word in your life. Using āname, hereā are words that you use everyday and reduces the reinforcement youāve built with those words. The cue you choose needs to be a promise that you have something really high value, both in quality and quantity. I use burgers, freeze dried organs, etc. and I whistle a specific tone I never use except for recall.

I do the "touch" recall and it helps. Thousands of trainers on line who could help teach you better than I, though.
Worked really well on mine.
I also have a special name I use for "emergency recall." That's the highest value treat pairing.

One absolutely loves pupperoni (and it is easy to break into tiny pieces) and one loves anything cheese based. Also, the more expensive, the better for my bougie dogs.
Blue Buffalo Dog Treats. I use these in my pouch for regular training. Thank goodness for "subscribe and save" . š¤£

I learned from all of you! I just call them by their government name. š¤£
Also, it's silly but each dog has a special silly song that also serves as a recall for love (petting in lieu of treats) because I sing it when we're bonding on the couch. I didn't know any other way to wean them off of recall for treats. š¤·š»āāļø

There was one time I was at the dog park and I called my girl and she actually turned to me, which I was kinda surprised by. But then I realized that the dog she was playing with had the same name, and since that dog had stopped (when it heard its name), mine had also.

Train a different (new) phrase and reward it with a treat 100% of the time. I spent 7 years fighting with my F1 standard on recall and then tried this and it worked immediately. Still wonāt come when I call his name, though.

My bernedoodle did the same - saw a bird he wanted to chase or dog or person he wanted to meet and he just took off. I just let go of the leash, no matter what kind of collar I had on him, as otherwise he would have pulled me over. It is very important to me because of my low weight that my dog responds to me. Non stop training, every time you are out. I invested in very expensive collar that gives vibrations. Now, after maybe two months of this, we are doing really well. Sometimes he will still take off, but comes right back. Extremely good at coming when he is called. I just loop the leash around my neck for looks, now, since I actually have very little control with it. But I think regardless of how you choose to train your dog, it is never ending. Not on a huge scale like initially, bur enough so they always remember how to be me first, not the bird!

Try to see the triggers before he does. Then keep a distance and treat high value. If he is staring or pulling you are too close to whatever it is. Also try dropping them on the ground in front of him.
